Last year the slow release ADHD meds had run out. Now its the short term meds so everyone is switching to the other types and then they run out. It's a nightmare and very stressful. Sorry to everyone who is suffering

We have the same problème here in France 🇫🇷 it is Very difficult to get a diagnosis and a prescription. The pharmacist and the doctors are very suspicious about ADHD medication 💊 many ADHD patients get discouraged and stop their treatment.

For people who doubt the necessity of ADHD medications: I come from a background that's far from priviledge. I Have suffered from depression, anxiety,... issues with compulsive spending, compulsive eating .... etc... most of my life.
Once, I was finally tested for ADHD by a very smart shrink and got medication, I started to get much better...

Did you try a change of lifestyle first? Healthy diet, exercise, getting enough rest, testing for nutritional deficiences? False diagnoses are made at times.

@@VW777 ADHD is massively UNDERdiagnosed and the only effective treatment for it is through medication. Asking an ADHD person to attempt lifestyle changes without first medicating them is completely useless, as the key symptom of ADHD (executive disfunction) means that they simply cannot follow through with the change, regardless of how motivated they are to make that change.

@VW77 Do you think in all those years of suffering, I haven't tried those obvious common sense options?
ADHD is massively under diagnosed, and that lack of diagnosis and treatment is often the source of really bad untracktable depressions, anxiety and some forms of chronic pain.
In my case, I piled up debt and have been struggling with my mental health for years without solutions.

Those who still do not understand why people with ADHD need medication; ADHD is not a behavioural issue. It is a psychological one. The tl;dr of it is, certain areas of the brain are not functioning as they should, or as they would in people without ADHD. It is not something that can be fixed with lifestyle changes. In fact, it is not something that can he fixed at all.
ADHD affects brain structure and function, specifically in areas related to decision-making, impulsivity, and attention. These differences are due to altered activity and connectivity in the prefrontal cortex, basal ganglia, and frontostriatal circuitry. Neuroimaging techniques are used to study these differences. In other words, the structure of our brains is physically different in a way that, to us, makes it increasingly more difficult to do normal things.
Imagine the brain's neural pathways as a network of highways carrying information in the cars and trucks. In a brain affected by ADHD, some of these highways might have irregularities that cause traffic jams and slowdowns in the flow of information. Medications for ADHD can be compared to a maintenance crew that helps regulate the flow within the pipe network. They can smooth out the irregularities, reduce traffic jams, and optimize the flow of information, making it easier for the brain to process and manage tasks like focusing and controlling impulses.
It is precisely the smooth flow traffic in the brain that allows anyone to control emotions, regulate impulses, direct attention, etc.
ADHD is a serious condition that has both short and long-term impacts on our lives. Some are very serious, and we need to be careful. Due to coordination difficulties, we are more likely to die in accidents like car crashes. We are more likely to fail in relationships, break up, or get divorced. Our impulse controls have a great influence over the quality of our lives, which, even by nuerotypical standards, is lower. We live on average 12.7 years less than normal people because of all of these factors.
Dont let these discourage you, these are factors that can be mitigated with medication, but also other modes of coping. ADHD meds are not a magical pill, but they are still easily 40%-60% of the solution to all your problems with ADHD and are often the difference between you keeping your house, your job, your partner, your friends, your benefits and losing it all. Now you can see why the shortage of medication worries a lot of us because so much of our functionality and continued quality of life is dependent on a steady supply of these little pills.

I think its good we need to be more realistic like everywhere else people pay for prescription and sadly theres too many people on this planet and the planet cant manage these tasks to keep us all alive so judge as u wish on my opinion but makes sense for long term

would you rather pay for those medicines for those people or pay them benefits or feed them in prison and mental facilities?
People with ADHD are doing favor to society by using their meds. I think it's reasonable to provide them with those medicines.

@@puclopuclik4108 More like a way for parents to have an excuse to get their kids diagnosed with a condition and get them on pills at a young age and an excuse to say it ain't their fault and responsibility for being failed parents. Also amazing how many families on benefits who have kids that suffer with it so they can rake in disability benefit. Also pharmaceutical companies love people getting diagnosed with it.
