MY INITIAL REACTION TO SET ME FREE IS INCORRECT! Like i said, it was my initial rwaction so you cant blame me but, i did research and read what the song is about and it is about his experience w/ SA .
so after I filmed this I read an excerpt from Joshua's GQ magazine interview and read how badly he was being treated and how Olivia hasn't spoken to him since driver's license. Please know that I am a fan of both josh and Olivia and the commentary I say in this video is for jokes and entertainment-- please do not take it to heart, and if ya do..... ur weird LMFAOOO. but this was a well-executed and beautiful group of songs! I love it.

I support liv 100%, but even as a fan, I feel like she could've taken initiative to address the countless death threats josh and sab were receiving because they didn't deserve to go through the pain they endured. I think, too, that a lot of fans should refrain from making assumptions because, at the end of the day, we don't know the whole story. Let's love all three of these beyond-talented artists for who they are as distinct individuals rather than tearing them apart into pieces because it's unnecessary. Be kind and supportive. :)

I'm a HUGE fan of Olivia, she's so sweet, so talented but it doesn't mean she doesn't make mistakes...Not addressing the whole bullying situation was a mistake. Let me be clear, Olivia is NOT in charge with everyone on the internet BUT I think that when you're an artist, a public figure, you do have a responsibility or at least an impact on how your art is used and interpreted. Here, her songs were used to bully Joshua and Sabrina, it's not right. She should have said something like: "hey, these songs are a way to express myself and are not meant to generate hate towards people"...I don't know why she didn't address the situation, I don't know if she was trying to move, if her label told her not to (because a drama, a crisis is always good publicity),...I don't know. But this was a mistake and that's ok. She's very young, she makes mistakes, it doesn't mean she's a bad person, or the villain.
I think Joshua and Olivia are just two very young adults who've been through a bad breakup, who made mistakes, during or after their relationship, and are trying to express themselves, to move on, sometimes clumsily but that's ok.

In the interview he said the song is "in part" about processing that experience so I think it's that as well as a combination of other things that may have been holding him down these last few years
I never listend to his music, but these songs are really good. Also I just feel bad for him. Imagine millions of people listen to break up songs about you and you can't escape it cause the songs are everywhere, everyone painting you as the bad guy and calling you names all that while having heart failure
I’ve listened to his music when he first debut on hsmts-his snippets on Instagram and then his EP’s but yeah, I definitely feel for him and as time went I realized how poorly this whole Olivia situation was handled /: people live and learn!

that made me confused. part of me wonders if that's true. they were still on set everyday by the same time the song was released. imagine the tension on set... and they had to act like each other's love interests? idk, weird. sus. did they just avoided the elephant in the room?

💯 Olivia is allowed to express her feelings but she was lazy in actually trying to do anything to protect the mental health of the people she wrote about especially Joshua. She could have lied and said it wasn’t about Joshua after all the genuine hate he was getting. I know it sucks to lie but it sure beats letting theories stir up like him cheating, trying to make her jealous with Sabrina, or him being inattentive of her feelings which are all untrue. Or she could’ve been more adamant on telling her fans to all calm df down. 2 days after Driver License dropped he literally almost died because of stressed induced septic shock and heart failure. And that especially sucks because anyone who cares enough to find out will find that he’s a genuinely good guy. He cares about things and advocates for things. He deserves more than what he’s been getting in the last 11 months.

I follow them both since 2019 bc of the show, I remember everybody shipping them but they never actually said anything about dating. My point is, I remember this one time where "All I want" music video was released and Joshua posted something about Olivia being a disney princess in a nice way bc of her pink dress and amazing voice. That just lives rent free in my mind and it makes me sad, because it's sad how things ended between them. They looked like good friends, maybe they dated, maybe they didn't but Josh is an amazing artist and person. Please read the recent gq interview he did. He said that set me free was about the sexual assault he went thru when he was a minor, and admitted that crisis was about the crazy PR over the year he faced... He had like a 30% chance of living when he was hospitalized in January this year, on top of that he received death threats at the same time! I liked olivia okay? But I just think she could've addressed the situation a bit better. Like maybe tell her fans to not hurt or blame anyone? I’m pretty sure it was Olivia he was talking about in secret cuz when he’s in the kitchen he says “good for u for fooling everyone” and that is probably referring to Olivia cuz she has her song “Good For U”
Since now I know that set me free is about SA, it takes on a whole new meaning. However, I'm not happy about people making it about Olivia. Josh wrote this song from the heart about his trauma. Me having been sexually assaulted by a family member, I understand this much more. Even though my assault wasn't as serious as others' stories, I still had to do a lot to heal. Knowing that he probably went through worse trauma, this is his way of healing. He is showing you that you don't have a hold over me, and he is saying, 'Set me free, stop and let me be!'. But oh well I may be wrong....

Hey I just watched this. I understand why people stated that Olivia and Joshua use to date, but then he broke up with her to be with Sabrina, but if I'm being honest, I'm one of those people who don't believe any of that, because there's really no proof that they were ever a thing. All they did was wrote songs, but songs are just a short story and in their songs, we don't automatically known if Olivia is reherring to Joshua or Joshua is referring to Olivia. I think the reason why Joshua and Olivia hadn't spoken in a year after Driver's License came out is because that was the time when COVID hit and literally everyone had to stay home. But that's just me. I've been doing research and I didn't find any proof that Olivia and Joshua use to date or Joshua dating Sabrina. Yes, I know: Sour is about Olivia's dating life, but maybe it has to do with a different boy and not Joshua. The blond girl in Driver's License could be someone completly different and not Sabrina. Just think about it.

Yes he said the "good for you" line but it could be in reference that everyone thought that he was happy in this new relationship bc of this song when in fact he was being cheated on by the person he was with. It can't be a coincidence that the girl in the video looked like Sabrina. But people said something about Sara Carpenter helping Joshua with his music videos so 🤷 🤷
Sarah Carpenter was credited on the video. Also the lines about the ‘war with me’ and ‘your music won’t sound the same’ very much hint at Olivia. As well in his earlier songs he mentioned liking Olivia soon after they met which was around 16 months before they broke up matching up with the lyric about ‘being fooled for 16 months’

This happened in like February 2019 around 16 months before they broke up. Meaning that he had known her for the length of time specified by the song lyric, and got to know her because they became close friends before they started dating. Meaning that his lyric about being tricked by them for 16 months makes sense in the context of Josh and Olivia’s friendship/relationship

@@glexbot6918 That was a little early in the year before she released her album. While her singles got massive streams and views, the real deal with award nominations and interviews was yet to come. She has since hinted that she didn't particularly enjoy acting because you're told exactly what to do and sing whereas in the process of making her music videos, she gets to decide everything from theme to direction. I'm really hoping she does continue HSM for 2 more years but at this point when she has a million other things going on, it looks highly unlikely.
