I think there are many people who have done far worse things than Meruem has. And what makes Meruem more forgivable than those people is that he didn't understand humans, he was more like an animal acting out of instinct, with the goal to evolve through the people he kills. When he becomes more human, he starts regretting having killed all those people.
That Random Ghost i love the progression of how dark this anime gets it starts with alot of applied death and hidden moments of death then the spider arc happens and boom a whole room of people die pretty much to start off then the dark dark ant arc
Here's a thing: When Meruem contemplated going into Komugi's room and killing her, he thought, "I could turn her into no more than a source of meat with the barest touch. So why do I hesitate?" But immediately after thinking that, he saved her from the hawk and used a bare touch to tend to her and show her kindness instead. Just me gushing over my favorite fucking show ever.
This season was so freaking hard core. This one season killed or almost killed all of the characters we know! Even Gon got hardcore as f*ck. Killua CRIED! I had to take breaks with this season. This show is just the best. It has soft and hard moments. They can get super mushy and then they have moments like these. Sorry for the rant I just had to get the feels out.

What an arc this was... A monster who valued no lives but himself, later learn the value of a life. By the end, he gained humanity and chose that over his role as King. A boy who valued lives more than anyone, later learn the pain and despair of losing one. By the end, he tossed away everything and became a monster full of rage to kill his enemy.

Clown Netero mentioned Meruem is a hybrid (like most Chimera Ants) and there is a chance he will either be a pure Chimera Ant or a human (in essence) but if he lingers in between for too long he will become very dangerous so they planned to kill Meruem. When they've reached the castle both Netero and Silva were shocked to see Meruem's human side (it's easier to kill a mindless Chimera Ant which they have expected). Anyway, this is my top arc in any anime/manga I've seen.

Gon grew up valuing life over _everything._ To the point that having to come to terms with the fact that his dear friend died a horrible, awful death, he gave up his humanity and became an unstoppable killer, filled with nothing but violence. As opposed to Meruem, who had no respect for anything but himself: Not even his family. But through a gentle soul, he learned to regret his violence and appreciate the value in life and the real meaning of strength.

He was willing to change in pretty drastic ways for his revenge like pushing his friends away, threatening komugi, and even putting his life on the line. Completely different from the gon before kites death.

I really like how the author make the ants. They first behave like animals relying purely on instincts and hierarchy but as the show progresses, they lean more on the humane side. Whereas the humans who are proclaimed as saviours slowly resemble and behave more and more as monsters

My lil brother was watching HunterxHunter about a year ago and this scene was my first time seeing the anime, wanted to watch it and so after all these months I finally started watching and finally watching this scene I had a smile across my face. I love HxH and I’m enjoying how dark this arc is

Meruem is probably the kindest character of all time. Despite being born a monster and to have no compassion to humans, he discovered peace and morality all on his own. Even when he’s the most powerful being and the future of his own species, he gave it up because he knew what he was doing was wrong. I can’t think of anyone fictional or in my own life who would sacrifice that much and turn out good when you were born to be bad. Amazing character

The way they show this so casually, with a relaxed nd curious expression on them, like it's just a normal stroll on a random day makes it feel 10x more darker than it'd be if there were people screaming their lungs out along with villainous music nd expressions.
This is the kind of ''censorship'' that works well. Although you don't see the tail pierce through her body like in the manga, quickly hearing the thrust of the tail and immediately moving away proved to be more effective and have more impact, at least imo..
Oddly enough, I don't hate Meruem. It really does seem like even from the beginning, he was just trying to understand the world. He didn't outright hate humanity, but he was disgusted by the human way of life. He detested "false" rulers and the idea of unworthy leadership by weak, corrupt, ineffective humans. Arguably, he just hates weak people in general. Not necessarily because of their inability to fight, but he seems to think that fighting is something that should be a normal part of life. Notice how he reacted when he killed them. "What? They didn't even put up a fight." Meruem seems to expect people to always be on their guard, which is further supported when he first meets Komugi. Meruem definitely starts out as a very evil and heartless villain because his first real experience with humanity is treating us as "food". I mean, humans don't exactly have a lot of remorse or pity for the creatures we slaughter, so it's a relatively understandable position. What changes is when he starts to come across humans he is forced to acknowledge on an intellectual level. Komugi taught him a lot about how a person can seem very weak but can have an inner gift that shines in unexpected ways. Meruem even seems to express regret, humility, and outright humanity close to the end of the Chimera Ant arc. I freaking love this character.
Are you kidding? At their final moments with Komugi, i cried for a whole 40 minutes. Non stop. Generally, having an evil character show emotion , is the most devastating thing for my soul. That's why the scene where Killua hugged Nanika cause he realised that she wanted to be loved, was also heartbreaking. Not on the Komugi-Meruem level tho :')
I think entirely differently. I don't see his initial charachter as evil. He's just a animal following his instincts. We perceive it as evil because he's the enemy of the humans but they might aswell see us as evil because we're the enemies of them. It's just species vs species. Survival of the fittest
I initially hated this arc because of the power scaling and some random chimera ants taking down hunters like insects. But when the Meruem died from radiation it was one of the most unique ending in anime instead of the typical power up and beat this guy and I loved it.
I think of this arc differently because everyone was forced to face a fow whose strength outweighs anything capable by humans. So they are forced to fight a game of endurance while Netero sacrifice himself to save humanity.
*Also Meruem killing innocent humans who were just farming and eaten an innocent little girl then killed the women who were just working and treated them as animals: 😶

It's a pity he didn't have a more miserable death, but I suppose losing something he truly valued in komugi, was a punishing thing in itself. This arc was definitely one of the darkest in anime, probably up there with Berserk. Honestly I'd have wanted adult Gon to fight Mereum, that would have been such an amazing fight.

I hated this entire arc, from the start when the crab killed the siblings. Many scenes made me feel like puking. Made me feel like the author went crazy with how the direction changed so much from the greed island
Togashi always light up the tone after a dark saga, greed island came after york shin city that was a dark arc full of deaths. And btw even greed island was full of deaths, people beheaded, body parts exploded and Gon losing a freaking arm just to prove a point. Plus I have to remind you about what phantom troupe did to kurapika’s clan? They aren’t all adults, there was also a kid of the same age as kurapika, his best friend, and they still killed him and took his eye balls from his body. And they made sure to torture all of them to make sure their eyes were scarlets when they took them.
The thing I like about this arc was that it makes you think "are we any different?" We herd and breed animals to feed on them, overpowering and trampling over anything weaker than us even each other. When they've reached the castle both Netero and Silva were shocked to see Meruem's human side (it's easier to kill a mindless Chimera Ant which they have expected). Anyway, this is my top arc in any anime/manga I've seen.

His foil with Gon was the perfect arc. Gon grew up valuing life over _everything._ To the point that having to come to terms with the fact that his dear friend died a horrible, awful death, he gave up his humanity and became an unstoppable killer, filled with nothing but violence.
As opposed to Meruem, who had no respect for anything but himself: Not even his family. But through a gentle soul, he learned to regret his violence and appreciate the value in life and the real meaning of strength.

He was willing to change in pretty drastic ways for his revenge like pushing his friends away, threatening komugi, and even putting his life on the line. Completely different from the gon before kites death.

Meruem wasn't really a psychopath more like a sociopath since he didn't really feel empathy or anything like that acting mostly out of instinct at first. I really like how the author make the ants. They first behave like animals relying purely on instincts and hierarchy but as the show progresses, they lean more on the humane side.

The reason why meruem is perfect is not because he‘s super powerful but because he developed from an apathetic animal into a empathetic human within a day. Which some people struggle with even after 5000 years of civilization.
My lil brother was watching HunterxHunter about a year ago and this scene was my first time seeing the anime, wanted to watch it and so after all these months I finally started watching and finally watching this scene I had a smile across my face. I love HxH and I’m enjoying how dark this arc is

Meruem is probably the kindest character of all time. Despite being born a monster and to have no compassion to humans, he discovered peace and morality all on his own. Even when he’s the most powerful being and the future of his own species, he gave it up because he knew what he was doing was wrong. I can’t think of anyone fictional or in my own life who would sacrifice that much and turn out good when you were born to be bad. Amazing character

At that time, Meruem isn't mature enough to understand emotions. He is literally just a few hours old at that time.
This is the kind of ''censorship'' that works well. Although you don't see the tail pierce through her body like in the manga, quickly hearing the thrust of the tail and immediately moving away proved to be more effective and have more impact, at least imo..

Oddly enough, I don't hate Meruem.
It really does seem like even from the beginning, he was just trying to understand the world.
He didn't outright hate humanity, but he was disgusted by the human way of life. He detested "false" rulers and the idea of unworthy leadership by weak, corrupt, ineffective humans. Arguably, he just hates weak people in general. Not necessarily because of their inability to fight, but he seems to think that fighting is something that should be a normal part of life.
Notice how he reacted when he killed them. "What? They didn't even put up a fight." Meruem seems to expect people to always be on their guard, which is further supported when he first meets Komugi.
Meruem definitely starts out as a very evil and heartless villain because his first real experience with humanity is treating us as "food". I mean, humans don't exactly have a lot of remorse or pity for the creatures we slaughter, so it's a relatively understandable position. What changes is when he starts to come across humans he is forced to acknowledge on an intellectual level.
Komugi taught him a lot about how a person can seem very weak but can have an inner gift that shines in unexpected ways.
Meruem even seems to express regret, humility, and outright humanity close to the end of the Chimera Ant arc.
I freaking love this character.

Generally, having an evil character show emotion , is the most devastating thing for my soul. That's why the scene where Killua hugged Nanika cause he realised that she wanted to be loved, was also heartbreaking. Not on the Komugi-Meruem level tho :')

I initially hated this arc because of the power scaling and some random chimera ants taking down hunters like insects. But when the Meruem died from radiation it was one of the most unique ending in anime instead of the typical power up and beat this guy and I loved it.
I think of this arc differently because everyone was forced to face a fow whose strength outweighs anything capable by humans. So they are forced to fight a game of endurance while Netero sacrifice himself to save humanity.

This arc was definitely one of the darkest in anime, probably up there with Berserk. Honestly I'd have wanted adult Gon to fight Mereum, that would have been such an amazing fight.

I hated this entire arc, from the start when the crab killed the siblings. Many scenes made me feel like puking. Made me feel like the author went crazy with how the direction changed so much from the greed island
Togashi always light up the tone after a dark saga, greed island came after york shin city that was a dark arc full of deaths. And btw even greed island was full of deaths, people beheaded, body parts exploded and Gon losing a freaking arm just to prove a point. Plus I have to remind you about what phantom troupe did to kurapika’s clan? They aren’t all adults, there was also a kid of the same age as kurapika, his best friend, and they still killed him and took his eye balls from his body. And they made sure to torture all of them to make sure their eyes were scarlets when they took them.
The thing I like about this arc was that it makes you think "are we any different?" We herd and breed animals to feed on them, overpowering and trampling over anything weaker than us even each other. Can make the argument that "because your stronger you should look after the weak" but come on, bullies exist....and not just in grade school.
