    My church launched in January, and as we were discussing what equipment we needed in-ears were essential to keep the cost down. I had used them before, but the musicians on my team were not familiar at ALL with them. They LOVE in-ears! We bought every musician a set of M6 Pro headphones. Our front row are all on wireless, and everyone else is wired. Set-up is a breeze.
    I'm personally in the market for some custom molds. Huge thanks Brian and Fuller for what you do, all the way from here in Alabama.

    My campus at the moment uses wedges but this week actually we are ordering all of our new sound system. Going with line array speakers, new digital board, in ear system (not sure if we are doing just headphone amps or like an Aviom setup), LED lights, light control board and new computers. I'm taking a weeks vacation from my company to help out with everything.
    Love the VLOG videos. Tanks Brian and Fuller for being such great inspiration!

    I set up wired a IEM at my church. I've got it so that a stereo mix is sent from the board (an old analog Soundcraft GB4-24) on two of its aux channels out to a small secondary mixer where I feed in two mics facing the audience. Then the signal chain is sent to a 6-channel headphone amp and the musicians on the stage plug into headphone extension cables. It works quite well. I use the secondary mixer so that it makes it easy for the soundperson to hear what the musicians on the stage hear. Only one mix is sent to the stage, because we've maxed out on our cables to the stage. If-and-when we upgrade the audio, it'll be a digital board with a digital snake.
    Along with the audience mics feeding their IEM audio, I also have a talk-back mic hooked into it as well. That way, I can at least have one-way communication with the stage during the performance - tell them that their instruments are muted so they can unplug, etc.
    We got rid of two amps, and the need for six floor monitors along with a loud stage.

    Our youth group has wired in ears and we use elite core audio volume packs and xlr cables to a separate snake with some turnarounds connected to our aux outputs on our mixer and it is far cheaper to do that. Beringer makes a model similar to them as well that works with there P16 in ear system. And those are great options for people in a budget. Our youth love them more than floor monitors.

    In the smaller venue at my church has wedges for the worship leaders and everyone else is on hardwired Aviom mixers. The larger venue has Audio Labs Live Mix mixers for everyone but only the front 4 are wireless.

    I started out with the Shure SE215 and in July upgraded to a Tunz Trio custom molded ear. The church uses an Aviom system and has helped bring stage volume down enough to where we have acoustic drums.

    I can see the huge benefits of in-ear monitors. Currently we only use the fold back speakers and lately our keyboard player has a little speaker near her to hear everything (definitely not a great set up). Never heard of EMI till you posted this video, so something im definitely going to look into in terms of investing.
    Cheers guys! Great work :)

    I've started using InEars recently. Got the SHURE SE215 like you mentioned and used a small box to reinforce the signal. It sounds so awesome! I really enjoy using them. I'm controlling my own monitor with a remote-control app for the Behringer X32 and it's so comfortable to set the volumes right for the different instruments and voices. The sound is fantastic and you can focus a lot better, because you hear everything so clear!
    Some of us are still using stage monitors, but I hope everybody gets some InEar soon. For 150€ you can find some good equipment to get you started using InEars! It really helps a lot, especially in churches etc.

    This was awesome! Just recently I personally made the move to in-ears. Not through my church which still uses wedges but now that I play for Chapel in college which does in fact use in ears. In been quite the experience and I'm interested to hear more!

    Using IEM's in our set up. Part of the journey is realising that some individuals won't handle IEM's at all. Sound isolation alters a vocalists 'head resonance' & they just don't think it sounds normal. We had to compromise with a couple of 'hot-spot' monitors for those people. Taming drum stage volume is another can of worms too. We used electronic drums & Gen 16 cymbals & have a great drum sound & the sound guys love it. Wired IEM's are is very cost effective - as you said. Good IEM-101 - thanks.

  • @dkerwood1
    @dkerwood1 7 лет назад

    We have technical barriers to IEM. Our mixer, for example, only supports 4 aux mixes, and of those, only 2 are sent from the board to the stage. Thus, we rely on two mixes of monitor wash to hear everything on stage.

    We use an Allen and Heath mixing board with Allen and Heath ME1’s for the musicians and wireless packs for the vocals. We all use in ears and click tracks and EXTRA LARGE music stands; Just Kidding... NO music stands.
    I personally use the Westone UM-pro 30 triple drivers for the last 3 years and love them.

    We have an in ear system and I love it for bass and drums but when I lead and play guitar I feel very separated from the congregation so we've gone to a wedge system for everyone except bass and drums. I think the biggest problem is being able to set it up correctly. I look forward to your vid on this topic.
    Love your stuff btw... keep up the great work!

    I've recently been testing out a Behringer P1 with some cheap dual-driver earbuds. I still need to do some tweaking but, even at a total cost of ~$70, I definitely like it better than wedges. I'm hoping to expand to the rest of the band soon, though I'm not sure how to handle the singers. It was definitely a big adjustment the first time I wore them. We wouldn't be able to do individual mixes with our current setup but I'm hoping to at least have one for instruments and one for singers. Looking forward to the next video.

    I used Alclair's Dual XBs. My first pair of custom IEM and they are great. I have no stake in the company but if you have a group from your church all wanting IEM they will give you a price break. Also if you happen to live in a city with one of their reps (I live in Nashville) they will do your molds for free. All said and done I walked out $267 for everything. Give them a look. They have cheaper (even universal IEM) and I believe they go up to 8 drivers (don't quote me on that last statement). Love the channel. Keep up the good work.

    For my church God's Vision Ministries the musicians use the wired system. We do not have any in ear monitors but we use the IPhone and beats headphones. We would love to get in ear monitors but we do not know where to start. The singers use the wedges and there is a lot of back and forth about how loud the piano is through the speaker. It starts to become such a hard task for the audio technicians. For me as the drummer I start to hear the feedback from the speakers in my headphones.

    We have been making a push to use in ears as of late, and church leadership is on board. Because sound on stage is a huge issue for us right now. The biggest issue we are running into is people don't want to use them. They aren't willing to learn how to play with headphones because they are use to wedges, and they aren't willing to learn to play with click tracks. We have 1 team right now that is fully on in ears, the rest of the teams are split 50/50. Guitarists and drummers on in-ears but pianists, vocalists, and some bassists using wedges. We also need to get more monitor lines run. We have 6 monitor channels available week to week, trying to get up to 8 until we can upgrade to a board with more monitor outs.

    In our church we use personal monitors (Allan&Heath ME serie) As a guitarist, i used Ultimate Ears Triple fi-10s, they are really good in-ears, and flat frequency response (no peaking frequencies) but because the ME hasn't have a EQ for individual channels , the low end is lacking. Since then i borrow a Sennheiser HD 25-1 II from the sound engineers. It has a better low end, but is somewhat harsh in the higher end. I heard some great reviews about the Sennheiser PX 100-II, so i'm thinking to try these out..Eventually i go for molded in-ear monitors..

  • @Puritan830
    @Puritan830 7 лет назад

    Wow at 16:30, there's so much bass response from just the cajon. I didn't know that was possible.
    I don't use in ear monitors. We don't have a professional sound board tech, and its just me on guitar, a pianist, and a choir.

    Hey I just want to say that I love these videos, they keep getting better and better. Any ways in our church we use both wedges for our vocals and all the musicans are wired in with a headphone amp and in ears, and out worships learn has a wireless in ear system. as for the in ears I use the shure 215s and the other musicians use eaither the mee electronic M6 or M6 Pro.

  • @jacobfulton7763

    My church uses a pretty decent in ear system, but it's not being used to its full potential because only half of our team has actual in ear monitors, the other half using cheap earbuds that came with their phones.

  • @StuClifton
    @StuClifton 7 лет назад

    Our church band uses in-ear monitors. The guys upfront are wireless, with everyone else on cables. The quality of the stuff most of the band use is not that great though. At practice you can sometimes hear the click track coming through the mics because they are pretty uncomfortable and they don't get pushed all the way in unless its during church.

    Honestly, I recommend people starting off with the M6 Pro over the Shure SE215s because it's less than half the price and sounds just as good if not better. It also is a much better deal with all the accessories you get with it.

    • @theodt
      @theodt 7 лет назад

      timaragon how much do you pay for the m6 pro? I use 215s, and am happy to learn of new products in that price range!

    • @timaragon
      @timaragon 7 лет назад +1

      You can get them on Amazon for like 40 bucks (the price on the M6 website is 50) and if you contact MEElectronics (the company that makes the M6 pros) when you lose a piece, break or anything, they'll send you a new one for half the price provided you have some verification that you owned a pair. I seriously love this product. I bought two for my brother and I since we play together, and he loved it so much that he bought another one when he misplaced his. Just know that you need to burn the in ear monitors for 72 hours for the sound to reach its peak performance.

    I think the most difficult thing for me when I was using in-ears was that we didn't have room mic's so you don't have the feedback from the room so I would occasionally have to pull one monitor out so I could feel the room.

    I use the basic Shure PSM300 system with the SE215s. After a year of trying to convince everyone to use in ears (wired or wireless), I decided to just invest in the Shure system and in ears for myself. I'm a drummer and I play 10x better because of it. Of course, the rest of the team always complains about feedback and I know exactly why. Sigh.

Our vocals sound awful and flat coming through the in-ears. We are currently all sharing one channel of reverb that we can turn up or down, but this just causes problems.

    I'm not 100% sure how click track works but I do know that click track can help the praise team members stay on beat and stay together.. My questions is can't it also become a distraction? Wouldn't it prevent the band members from actually worshipping? I feel like using click track would make me concentrate solely on playing the music and not actually worshipping just like a regular non-church band would. Personally, I think it would take away the beauty of worship, expressing oneself freely to and of God.

      Hey Samuel - unfortunately I had to remove that video temporarily. It's legal to upload a cover of someone else's song to RUclips, but the copyright owner does have the right to mute user generated content of certain songs if they want to (for example if it's a brand new song and they only want official videos available).
      Bethel Music muted the Ever Be cover, so I've reached out to them to see if I can make it available soon. Hopefully I can - that video turned out really good. Thanks!

    At our church, sound is the last thing that's ever considered. We have one speaker box that's mounted up in the ceiling. I kid you not! Horrible sound! Basically - if the congregation doesn't see it or gets to hold it - it doesn't get funded, it's as if it doesn't exist to them. Yeah - it's pathetic. I bet I'm not the only one in that situation.
