Vlad has a second high hat that's triggered with a pedal. If you watch some of his drum playthroughs you see him working it constantly. He has it placed underneath other symbols where he couldn't even hit it if he wanted to. When I saw them live and know the songs you can tell where a backing track is playing. The only ones I picked up on were Tati's backing vocals and a few times there was a second guitar track for Roman but only like 2 or 3 times entire show. Great reaction, guys! Have a great day!
Yes! Vlad has a choked hat that only opens enough to make the "tss" - you are correct that most of the backing tracks are vocal layers and some parts that were done when they had two guitarists or the song obviously has multiple guitar parts at once (ie: songs like "Just Another"). Also, Vlad controls the click tracks live if I am not mistaken. Sasha does FOH and general sound engineering and I think their old drummer Dmitry Kim also helps with sound engineering (he is an engineer for them in the studio as well)
@@neilpatrickhairless Everything you said is correct Dean :) Dmitry will mix a lot of their live stuff you see on You Tube. Sasha has been with them for Many years, he's the 5th member..
Just coming to add that there are no production tracks for the drums in live shows. If you watch Vlad play enough, you will notice just how frequently he will use his left foot to play 16ths on the hi hat, much like Jimmy Chamberlin of the Smashing Pumpkins. It’s part of what makes Vlad’s playing swing underneath the metal playing. What a monster musician that guy is.
Nice reaction guys. Pit of Consciousness is my favorite Jinjer song to date, and this performance is epic. As far as a backing track, I'm not a musician but other reactors who are and react to Jinjer say that Tati singing to a backing track is actually more difficult because if she is not in key, it would sound off and terrible, also the only backing track is when she is singing in her clean voice and not her growls. Makes sense because replicating a growl would be very difficult. As far as Tati's height, she says she's 5'4, I've seen her in person and I would say she's closer to 5'3. Everyone refers to Tatiana as "Tati" she even refers to herself as Tati, so I don't think she minds LOL 😄 Also, her nickname is "Booya", she signs her autograph that way. Keep up the great reactions, looking forward to more Jinjer, and as always, stay Metal you two. 😊🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶 Oh I totally agree with you guys, I'm not a fan of harsh vocals, I'm still not, and I've been a metal head for over 40 years. The reason I love Jinjer so much though is because the musicianship is outstanding, and Tati sings beautifully in her singing voice, and the mixture of her growls sounds amazing to me. If she only growled, I would have been burned out rather quickly no matter how awesome the musicianship is.
She's 5'1". Very petite. Listen to Jim Breuer talk about meeting ACDC. He said he thought he was going to accidentally trip over one of them because they were so small.
Highly recommend "on the top live in kiev" it's literally the exact same concert with the same amazing sound and video quality 🔥 love yalls channel, to be honest yall are very underrated 🫶🏼
According to a pal who met them backstage she is about 5'4. So i guess you both where equally close to guessing it right :D If i may suggest a song from them pls listen to Teacher Teacher. Incredible song with some quality lyrics and a full spectrum of vibes. Have a great day! Greetings from austria
You HAVE GOT to do their song "On the Top" live in Kiev. Same show. Vlad plays with two high hats, one is tucked away back hiding under other cymbals that he can only play with a foot pedal. You can see it good in their video for "Vortex", which you should also react to!
There aren't any vocal tracks going on here. Vlad has a second hi hat that is only incorporated by his foot. So, it may look like a track but isn't. The only track used is at 4:57 after they stop and right before she sings "Stillness dies". It's the sound effect used on the album, and they wanted it included in their show. Not a big deal at all. 4 seconds of a pulse.
About the high-hat Vlad play with two. One is in reach and the other is on the outside of the kit. You can get a good glimpse of it for about for about two seconds in the Vortex omg. Fn autocorrect omv.
They play to a click to keep time. There are harmonizing vocal backing tracks on some songs (only on clean vocals, & far less than on the studio recording). Other than that, there's very little playing from a track - the opening spoken verse to Perennial, occasional background 2nd guitar parts or background sound effects. The core sound is 100% live, & when you know their music well, it's mostly pretty obvious what's on a track.
YUP! One of the best live bands on the planet 2022! To play this intricate music without ever hearing a mess up is mind buggling. When they played "Sleep of the Righteous" on the Wallflowers tour last winter I just stood and stared in amazement on how tight it sounded!
There is a drum cam video for PoC iirc, but it isn't as good as some of the others. Most of the time if it is subtle layering its probably added in post, whereas the stuff on a vocal backing track is usually blatant, and especially a second line in between and overlapping the other lines like on Vortex at Hellfest and the Bootlegs of Retrospection. Interesting that the live of Retrospection from Melbourne doesn't have that though. There are some pretty good bootlegs of this show. Also a really good bootleg of this song in Berlin uploaded by George M.
After listening to Jinjer 2 years, I can still say that there are certain pitches in Tatiana's voice that send chills down my spine, and I have long said that I think she is the best vocalist I've ever heard. Having said that, there are three other bands that I listen to just as much, and if you guys haven't heard them, I'd love to see your reactions. Tallah-Overconfidence. Their vocalist, Justin is a translation of schizophrenia and ADHD converted into singing voice. He is practically on Tatiana's level. Their drummer Max Portnoy, is the son of Mike portnoy, who used to play for dream theater and avenged sevenfold Gojira-Amazonia. Their drummer, Mario is one of the best there is. His brother, Joe is the vocalist and lead guitarist. He probably has a half dozen different singing voices and the band as a whole in one place or another can probably be compared to about 20 different greats of the past. Meshuggah-Clockworks Thomas Haake drum playthrough. Regarded by many to be the best drummer there is. His polyrhythems are very difficult to duplicate. SUBBING. Love your reactions.
Are you insinuating that Vlad isn't a capable drummer that needs backing tracks to play a live concert? Man that is just flat out insulting! Watch his live "Mediator" drum playthrough at Szene open air Austria last summer and then "Under the Dome" live one shot and maybe your opinion will change. and FYI he's very highly regarded in the drum community from all genre's!
Are you kidding me right now? NO I'm not saying that at all. Man people in the comments are absolutely crazy what are you hearing me saying. What insult did I say? What insult came out of my mouth? I never said anything having to do with him not being able to play. I really like his playing actually. In fact I really like the whole band and their music. I'm simply observing that they are playing with tracks... At the very least vocal tracks but like I said in the video, that makes me wonder what else is on the tracks. I'm not saying it or bringing it up as anything other than an observation. Insinuating or assuming or trying to dissect what I'm saying in any way besides the literal words that come out of my mouth is something weak betas do. Relax buddy. Put down the joint.
The direct translation from Russian is Tanya. Ukranian and Russian fans get upset sometimes in the comments and remind us her name is Tanya. But us dumb Western fans started calling her Tati and it just took. She says Tati is fine, and the band even goes with it now. About the backtracking. TankTheTech, who has toured with big acts like Pat Benatar, Van Halen, Foo Fighters, and more, has talked about this on several occasions. To produce the same quality of sound live that you can get in a studio would require background vocalists and half a dozen or more musicians. Obviously, to perform like this every night would get very exoensive, so bands even as big as Foo Fighters and Van Halen have to make a decision. Either they make the choice to sound like shit live, or they use backingtracks. Here's the thing about backing tracks that maybe you're not considering. It is more difficult to play with them than it is without them, because every member of the band including the vocalist has to be precisely on cue the entire show or the sound is going to be bad. So it's actually a testimony to a band's musicianship that they can play with backingtracks.
First off... that's ridiculous. I've played in bands with tracks and in bands with no tracks. It's not easier or harder to play with tracks. Most musicians start learning and practicing their instrument with a metronome.. this is no different than playing with tracks. Second... bands that don't play with tracks don't necessarily sound like shit (LED ZEPPELIN, THE WHO, RUSH, THE ROLLING STONES, ETC ETC ETC). I don't care if bands use tracks or the fact that Jinjer uses them. It was just an observation thats all. I think their music is really cool I like them.
Suggest you Watch Judgment and punishment Tatiana (one take vocal performance) Also Really recommend Teacher Teacher official video has a great balance of clean vocals and grawls with seamless transitions. Their songs are even better once you understand the meaning behind the lyrics. I hope the members of the band still in Ukraine can stay safe until this unjustified war on their country is over. Far too much loss
What makes you think the high-hat is on a track? Because you can't see it. The camera angle is blocking view of the high-hat at the point you asked that.
Yeah it was just a question. No i didnt see it or him making it happen. And there were obviously vocal tracks so didnt think it’s impossible there could be other tracks. Doesn’t mean im right. Just wondering.
There are several if not most of their songs have multiple vocalists sections and yet only Tatiana as a vocalists, just as there are plenty of songs that have multiple guitar roles and yet only Roman playing a single guitar, and I wouldn't be shocked to hear multiple roles of bass guitar....so in the end, I really don't get the distinction you're trying to make about the supporting roles being in the output via tracks. Nor do I think this is all that unusual for live sets by even the most famous of bands. As a person who works in the industry, I see it so common place that it isn't any different than a pedal on a guitar or a voice box applied to a instrument output. I think the dishonest aspect is when it is applied to do the work of the artist for the artist and not when it is merely an additional effect being applied in the absence of background singers, harmony singer, rhythm guitarists or to add an instrument like a rumba or xylophone into a setup that isn't capable of supporting multiple percussion instruments on the same set in a manner that enables the artist to make those transitions in the time required. Doing this sincerely seems to be more like the one man band setups but using tracks for support in those additions rather than faking or diluting the genuineness of the sound via the output additions.
A lot of singers use backing tracks, so it's hardly even worth mentioning. Tati's tracks are of her singing the harmonies, so technically it's still her singing it, just at a different time and place. I've also heard from many artists that singing along to a track can actually be harder, because it's always in perfect tune and key and if the live singer isn't then it sounds like crap and is super noticeable.
