Ridiculously tiny maps is almost a tradition in Age of Mythology. They're so small compared to the space you need that its nearly unplayable. Its great. If you are on a map that gives you extra buildings at the start, there's a good chance they'll be closer to another player's town center than your own.
Red almost feels like he forgot about the countdown timer. He was so focused on orange by the end but if he actually built up a little military I think he could have pushed teal out.
In normal forest nothing games they're strong for economy but terrible for rushing. They can only destroy trees with Trebuchets. So in our games if someone pick Huns they just send tributes to other allies.
I think they did that because the map is so small the TC's would constantly fire on adjacent enemy woodlines and enemy houses and the games would stall out.
It seems like setting their range to 1 might be better. They could still defend a direct attack and passing enemies, but it couldn’t harass opposing wood lines.
You should try making a "Tiny" event in the Age of Mythology style. It'd be a 4 players completely empty map, everyone with infinite resources, but the fun part is that the map is basically a square which side is large 4 adjacent TCs
@@bare_bear_hands that's not a realistic prospect. By the time you reach castle age the space is already contested with houses and military buildings. Space management in that mode is key. Small buildings such as towers are actually way better
@@sephirothbahamut245 it's still whoever puts a tower down in the middle, the reason aoe2 is so good is because the random map forces unique play. If we eliminate all map features and all economy challenges then it's whoever micros the hardest and gets the middle first

I don't remember what brought me to T90s channel. But I do remember what brought me to the game. My childhood friend friend was describing the "new" game. It had villagers and you collect wood and berries. Take the resources back to the Town Centre..... I thought it was played in first person. 😂
I remember there was a battle of the empire games. Empire Eath, AOE and Empire Strategy? I think it was called. Obviously, this made you pick your team for AOE2.

I think this would work best (or at least more competitively) with only 4 players instead of 8. As is, the first two people to Feudal can tower 2 neighbors, effectively neutralizing up to 4 players anyway.

Wow... flashbacks! I used to play AoE with a bunch of friends (lan-party? :D ) around 2002. I can still remember one of my favorite games... I was a part of a group of 5 people who would get together for AoE every few months (again, 2002, so my memory is a bit thin on the details). This was back when you had to lug your tower PC and your CRT monitor around and spend an hour getting all of the PCs set up and connected to a wired LAN. By the luck of the draw, I was put on a team with a husband and wife pair... both very aggressive players. We are set up on a large dining room table with the other team of 2 in a different room. I'm always a long-game, resource player, which worked perfectly. We got dropped on the map with our 2 opponents in one corner, my 2 teammates paired center-map and I'm buried way on the far side of the map. I went into resource mode, built a strong trade network and started funneling resources to my team and completely dominated the back half of the map, not having to do any defensive work as I had my 2 team members up front. As long as they were happy I was safe and I was shoving so many resources forward, they were always happy. I raced my civ through a technology path quickly with my extra resources... completely undefended by my own means. An hour or so later I looked up at my team members and said "How you guys doing?" Response: "It's almost an even match... we gain a bit of ground over here, but lose it over there." Me: "You guys still running cavalry and archers, yeah? Pull 'em back now." Them: "What? You feel like joining the game all of a sudden? (and they laugh, knowing that I'm a resource player)" Me: "Yeah... unless you want to die in the blast from the nuke bombers on the way, I'd pull your little horsies back." 10 seconds later you could hear one of our opponents in the other room shout "I've got 'em on the run! CHARGE!" (he was seeing the retreat of my teammate)... Then the other opponent "Yeah! Mine are running too! We've got 'em!" The change in tone of voice in the next 10 seconds was hilarious... "FUCK! They've got NUKES!!!" Once the first wave of nukes were dropped, it cleared about 1/2 of the enemy territory. My teammates swooped in quickly and the game was a lock within a few minutes. Our opponents gave up before I could re-deploy the bombers. :D

You were the one caster that finally after 4-5 years got me onto Twitch where I used my Prime to stay subbed to you for several years.
I can assure you it was just awkward timing! If you look, I (Hi! I'm Jon!) was making little comments all through the game about things T90 hadn't talked about, ie: at 1:40 ruclips.net/video/t40VJo3eGwU/видео.html A lot of my comments were just whenever I noticed them, too, like all my trapped knights when I noticed them. I actually wasn't sure if T90 would have seen them by then or not. I was trying to be sassy in the moment and not throw away a considerable lead, but it definitely comes out during re-watching as if I was trying to have a 2 minute delayed conversation. :(
Towers are actually a super smart strat with how close they are. You can completely hose someone by building a tower that can overlook most of their area, but is still protected by tree´s. Once you hosed them that areas is yours for the taking. Usually you would not get close enough to anotherv player early on but here you are, and that early there is not much they can do against it.
What brought me to your channel was Blue Coffee and all of the regicides and pilgrim that you would broadcast. The whole colonization and diplomacy are my favorite aspects of AofE2
i do love the tiny maps! like a cage fight style, i started watching from a forest nothing or from like a viper vs someone match back in the day. picked up Aoe2DE now again and really enjoying watching all the teamgames. more tiny maps and more king matches! maybe give people hidden tasks they need to perform similiar to "risk"? my fav was the one were a player had to leave early so he just rushed elephants which stirred it up instead of everyone just waiting for imp to end diplo and start fighting. GG!
What brought me to the channel was playing the OG version of aoe2 (before my download key stopped working) and i thought "hey i wonder if there are any youtube videos of 4v4s" and thats when i clicked on the first video which was from this channel and introduced me to THE VIPER whom instantly became my favorite player to watch and ive been watching the odd game here and there ever since. Love the game, the players, the community (including viewers) and ofcourse the best aoe2 caster T90. Looking forward to more of the tourney games the loong ones 😂
I think the best strategy in this FN with monument and ultra tiny map is the following: 1) pick Celts 2) chop a square in the direction of the monument 3) build a house, go up to 5 vils, delete the house 4) send 1 villager to chop the sides of you TC and micro the other 4 vils as they continue chopping in the direction of the monument (2 vils chopping one tree so they won't bump) 5) you soon will end with a rectangle 3x2 of free space in the direction of the monument: now build a lumbercamp locking your 4 vils in that 2x1 space 6) continue chopping (with micro) in the direction of the monument 7) every 6 trees you end with another 3x2 free space rectangle: repeat points 5 and 6 8) you end at the monument with the best possible time advantage over the other players, starting the countdown and getting wood (not so important but still something) 9) continue (or better, "start") the game with the most common strats for FN just trying to hold until you win by time
Your cast of Jordan vs Viper BO21 is what got me into AoE2. Was a age of mythology fan and there wasn’t much content of that out there and some aoe2 stuff seemed more popular and a bo21 caught my eye cuz I thought it must be great. And it was. Worth a rewatch!
I actually got engaged with your channel with the forest nothing original vid. Thank you for all these years of great content Tristan, you are the best late night content that makes me sleep aoe caster

Don't remember the first video I watched, but I was just getting back into AoE2 at the time and was looking for AoE2 content to watch. Blue Coffee was one of the first few games that I wathced and I have been hooked since.
I remember when Age HD came out in 2013 and i started following Memb and other legends who were streaming content. Pretty sure i found T90 super super early because of those feeds on RUclips. By the time he went full time in 2016 I had been watching for over a year with a couple buddies. Amazing where this channel has gotten in the last decade. Keep it up man!
i couldn't remember what it was that brought me to the channel and then i remembered it was the legend videos of Wall. I hadn't gotten into AoE II DE mostly cuz i didn't know it was a thing but AoE 2 was my fav RTS and DE made me get back into the game super easily. Been playing the game off and on ever since!
Low Elo Legends brought me to your channel, I started with Bronze League Heroes in SC2 and got recommended some AOE II one day and thought "why not". Now its my 2nd or 3rd most watched game across videos like this, strategy videos and tournament play.
To answer one of your in video questions, I don't remember the first video of yours I watched. I started watching AoE2 down a weird path of watching ai play games. So I was watching another channel do ai battles/comparisons and then I believe some tournament you had casted showed up and then I was hooked. Love the content, keep it up!
The real coveted resource this game was space. Teal won when he killed grey and took over his land. Meanwhile, other players were not ruthless enough - if red had tried to take out orange asap then he could have taken his land and had the resources to face up to teal.
I can't recall which video it was specifically, but one of your pro level tournament casts was my introduction to competitive AOE2 and got me back into the game after having played it as a kid.
Your game when the mini-map is the map. Suggestion for a mini series with this "mini-map" map:- TCs can fire arrows and only 4 players in one round. Then the top 2 scores at the end of the round progress. After two rounds we have 4 players who play one final.
I really quite liked this. The competition for space added another strategic element to the match. I think doing 1v1 or even 2v2 could be pretty intense.
This video was my first of yours. Needed something to watch I the background at work for entertainment and I was feeling RTS vids. The theme sounded fun.
Awesome match! Id love to see this map played again by more experienced players who have strats in mind for such a small working space or even a match with only 4 players. Please do this again! Very interesting to see how people handle their resources!
one idea i had for a map was just a regular map but with infinitely spawning enemy petards (or some other kind of horde), so on top of fighting other players for resources the players are also jus trying to survive the onslaught.
I literally did find your channel from the first Forest Nothing map. I had only vaguely heard of AoE, let alone #2, but the map and idea was just so stupid I loved it. I haven't watched your channel for a year or 2, but here I am again lol.
I still have my game box, manual and CD from back in the day. I've played a lot of games in my life, but I played AoE the longest for no other reason than random maps never generating the same map twice. Most replayable game even. I'm surprised no one was going for the wonder from the start. You can tell them what trees to cut.
Can we have a "nothing" map? Like only one tile of each resources but like a tree with thousands of wood in it or sum shit, a small pond with thousands of fish and not a whole lot in the map, some relics in the middle and bamn. Just call the map as "nothing"
The first video I ever watched was TLO iSit through recommended on March 10th. But the next video I watched, TLO Simple Joe is what really made me a fan and got me to stick around. I haven't even played AoE, but will probably be purchasing it while its on sale because of the channel.

I can assure you it was just awkward timing! If you look, I (Hi! I'm Jon!) was making little comments all through the game about things T90 hadn't talked about, ie: at 1:40 ruclips.net/video/t40VJo3eGwU/видео.html
A lot of my comments were just whenever I noticed them, too, like all my trapped knights when I noticed them.

The whole colonization and diplomacy are my favorite aspects of AofE2
enter the space age and build a photon cannon, you may need a pylon, perhaps even an additional one
This is hilarious but I love the different dynamic, I really want to see a diplo version of this so badly now
i do love the tiny maps! like a cage fight style, i started watching from a forest nothing or from like a viper vs someone match back in the day. picked up Aoe2DE now again and really enjoying watching all the teamgames. more tiny maps and more king matches! maybe give people hidden tasks they need to perform similiar to "risk"? my fav was the one were a player had to leave early so he just rushed elephants which stirred it up instead of everyone just waiting for imp to end diplo and start fighting. GG!
I really appreciated the humor from all the players lol
What brought me to the channel was playing the OG version of aoe2 (before my download key stopped working) and i thought "hey i wonder if there are any youtube videos of 4v4s" and thats when i clicked on the first video which was from this channel and introduced me to THE VIPER whom instantly became my favorite player to watch and ive been watching the odd game here and there ever since. Love the game, the players, the community (including viewers) and ofcourse the best aoe2 caster T90.
Looking forward to more of the tourney games the loong ones 😂
I think the best strategy in this FN with monument and ultra tiny map is the following:
1) pick Celts
2) chop a square in the direction of the monument
3) build a house, go up to 5 vils, delete the house
4) send 1 villager to chop the sides of you TC and micro the other 4 vils as they continue chopping in the direction of the monument (2 vils chopping one tree so they won't bump)
5) you soon will end with a rectangle 3x2 of free space in the direction of the monument: now build a lumbercamp locking your 4 vils in that 2x1 space
6) continue chopping (with micro) in the direction of the monument
7) every 6 trees you end with another 3x2 free space rectangle: repeat points 5 and 6
8) you end at the monument with the best possible time advantage over the other players, starting the countdown and getting wood (not so important but still something)
9) continue (or better, "start") the game with the most common strats for FN just trying to hold until you win by time
Your cast of Jordan vs Viper BO21 is what got me into AoE2. Was a age of mythology fan and there wasn’t much content of that out there and some aoe2 stuff seemed more popular and a bo21 caught my eye cuz I thought it must be great. And it was. Worth a rewatch!
Tiny is an extreme challenge for sure, I love the absolute aggressive afforded
This was an extremely long game for being tiniest map!
I actually got engaged with your channel with the forest nothing original vid. Thank you for all these years of great content Tristan, you are the best late night content that makes me sleep aoe caster
hey, THIS is the video that brought me to your channel! 6:50
I remember watching as one of those 75 people yeaaaaars ago! Surprised to see you pop back up as a recommend and even more shocked I never subbed back in the day. I remember watching all the fun matchups, they were always fun and relaxing to watch even if I never got what was going on haha.
Jon has obviously played these settings a few times and knows an exact build order
For me the first videos of yours I saw were you casting the high end competitions, if I remember correctly the ever was a duat v viper game.
That was a great idea. Very fun to watch
There are so few trees on this map, you might as well call it "Straggler Tree Nothing", 11
This ridiculously small sized map is my nightmare. This was stressful to watch!
I really quite liked this. The competition for space added another strategic element to the match. I think doing 1v1 or even 2v2 could be pretty intense.
Can you recycling wood in game ? THIS IS THE FUNIEST FOREST
The lumber camp probably was there to develop some tree cutting skills. It was deleted shortly afterwards.
Loved it! Relics scattered through the trees would be just as fun.
I laughed so much. This isn't the kind of content I usually watch, but this match was fantastic. Thanks T90!
i did stuff like this back in warcraft 2. tiniest map possible, only a town hall and space for a gold mine, nothing else. it was fun.
AOE2 is a LEGEND of a game. I STILL play it solo all the time- I am nowhere NEAR good enough to play other people... but damn I love this game
Now this reminds me of Funsetz from Empire Earth.
