I feel like there’s three options for which god Marika wanted Hewg to forge a weapon to kill -
-Marika herself, so she could be free from her imprisonment.
-Radagon, because he was the part of Marika that was still fiercely loyal and obedient to the Greater Will.
    -The Greater Will itself.
In any case, the fact that Marika was rebelling against the Greater Will and the Golden Order is clear.

As i see it, after the Gloam-eyed Queen was defeated and the Rune of Death ended up in the hands of the Golden Order, making everyone, especially Marika's family/lineage, immortal, she wanted to have a weapon that would've been able to slay other outer gods, further solidifying her hegemony and that of the Greater Will

The 3 options you listed are really all the same . There is only one answer.
All of the above. To kill the Elden beast you HAVE to kill Marika and by default Radagon.
To kill one means you kill ALL.

    • @kavinh10
      @kavinh10 2 года назад +3

Marika wants us to struggle for eternity and continue advancing even if it means using herself and her children as stepping stones. That's why its implied she commissioned her own son's demise and shattered the elden ring, even the elden beast's demise probably isn't her end goal. I don't think she has a clear end goal beyond wanting to create individuals who can surpass herself, that's why she has the greatest of expectations for the tarnished since their strengths are inherently their own instead of being blessed.

The misbegotten in Castle Morne aren't attacking their masters simply of their own volition. They're doing it thanks to the interference of The Frenzied Flame and Shabriri. Irina specifically mentions a mad "howling" that marked the beginning of their bloody betrayal of their masters. That mad howling is the Howl of Shabriri. This is also why there are numerous Misbegotten in the Castle that, like the ones in the Haligtree, are sitting crouched on the ground with their hands clenched and their heads hung low in shame, because they regret what they did in their bout of rage-fueled madness.

@@square-table-gaming we're seeing them all in the aftermath. we don't actually come across any scenes of misbegotten hearing the howling that causes the madness in them. we always encounter them well after the rioting and death have taken place. either way, we would have to stretch incredibly hard in order to ignore all the context created by the specific word choice in irina/hyetta's lines.

All these time hewg had no further dialogue until I finally spoke to Melina at the giants' firepot and told her to wait, then hewg immediately asked if I had second thoughts and wanted to speak to me more.

I think Marika instructed Hewg to craft a Godslaying weapon to kill the Elden Beast. She saw the parasitic nature of the Erdtree and decided to rebel against the Greater Will. In the final fight against the Elden Beast, we see dozen of Erdtrees in the background. I believe these trees represent the Erdtrees the Greater Will sent out to other worlds or places. Some speculate that she turned against the Greater Will before that. That the reason she removed Destined Death in the first place was to starve it of the souls it feeds on when people die. Then she saddled Maliketh with it so that her shadow would be nice and far away so that if the 2-Fingers got wise they couldn't send him against her.

Actually there are some videos with theories claiming that Marika orchestrated Godwyn's death. According to the in-game lore, the Black Knife Assassins had close ties to Marika, and came from the same homeland as her. We can confirm their ties and origins, but whether Marika truly had any direct or indirect involvement is still up in the air. It does look sus though.
Also if this theory is true, then the betrayal that happened to Maliketh (the game never explained what the betrayal really was) would make sense, that Marika leaked out the location of the death rune to the assassins, without Maliketh knowing.

They're praying for forgiveness. Their rage and bestial nature are exploited by Shabriri, you can intuit this from Irina's account of the Misbegotten's slaughter of their masters when you meet her for the first time. Irina and her father Edgar are integral to the Frenzied Flame questline, and when recounting the slaughter at Castle Morne, Irina distinctly makes note of having heard a mad "howling". She's talking about the Howl of Shabriri. As beasts and slaves, the Misbegotten were perfect targets for Shabriri to use in order to cause chaos. You mean because of the horns? Could be, the other "normal" misbegotten are more feathery, I think? Would need to look at them again to confirm tho.
On the other hand he does look rather un-omenlike with only a few horns, Not sure if halfbreeds are possible (misbegotten being linked to the crucible and the Omen to failed Reinkarnation)

It's likely he did not forge the weapon that killed godwyn as in-game he is not capable of forging weapons to their top tier, or "god slaying" level. Our thought is that this is intentional as Fromsoftware often hides story elements in gameplay mechanics.
