Hi Lady Laura, So glad you are enjoying my video projects, it's been fun sharing them with others. If you are just starting out with leaded glass, check out my first video called Leaded Glass Solar Lantern for Beginners, it shows you all the tools you need and has a lot of tips for the beginners. You are my fist viewer from Poland. There are several other simple beginner projects for you to check out when you have time. The video I just posted with my granddaughter making a simple Sun Catcher would be one you could learn on. It's called Leaded Glass Sun Catcher for Beginners 101!! Is it hard to get Leaded Glass Supplies in Poland? Again, thanks for your comment and please feel free to ask me anything about these video projects. Have a great day!! I noticed you joined the two H leads at different places instead of both at same point. I was taught to do that way for added strength. I never put the connecting ends at bottom cause gravity. Your thoughts....
Hi Juile, I think your right to end the H came in different places on your projects. It does add strength to it. I think you could end the H came at the bottom if the project isn't too large or heavy. I think I would still stagger them on the sides if possible. Thanks for watching my videos, you can find them all if you type in the search bar Bill Stone's Stained Glass Creations, then click on my photo and they all come up in one place. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi again, Yes, you could do this project with copper foil. I would still wrap the outside edge with lead came to give it some strength, also would give you a place to put your hangers. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi Peggy, Thanks so much for your kind words, it's been fun sharing these projects with others. There are about 40 different video projects to look at, hopefully when you have time you will get to check them out. If you are new to Leaded Glass, then welcome and enjoy the videos, I have been making these different projects for a long time. I started back in the 1975 or so making windows for our home. Thanks for your comment and please feel free to ask me anything about these projects. Regards, Bill Stone
Hi Bill - been watching your videos as I have been teaching myself this fun art - thanks for your explicit instructions - very helpful! Two questions: Are you planning to do more videos? Also, haven’t used lead came in any of my projects yet and wondering how the came looks after awhile, especially if the project is outdoors. I’ve been using copper foil and then black patina afterwards and it seems to hold up pretty well…thanks, Dave from the Pacific Northwest!
Hi Dave, Thanks for your kind words, yes, I will keep on making these videos, I enjoy sharing this fun hobby with others. There are over 40 videos on my channel right now for you to check out when you have time. The first one shows you how to make a Stained-Glass Solar Lantern for Beginners. If you're knew to stained Glass, and this is you're intro to Lead Came I would suggest you check this one out, as it starts at the very beginning of what you need to do Leaded Glass. Also, if you want to look at some of the larger finished projects I've been work on this past year, check out my video on how to make a Leaded Stained-Glass Clock, if you fast forward to the end you can check them out, some are Leaded Glass and some are Copper Foil. The two different sizes of lead came I am using are RU-70 U Came for the outside of these projects and RH-9 H Came for the center of these projects. These are made by Cascade Metals, check out their web site, it will tell you all about the different sizes of Lead Came. As for what happens to the Lead Came over time outside, it turns a light gray, and the solder joints also turn a light gray. This happens over a period of time due to Oxidation of the lead and solder. I have Solar Lanterns that have been outside for the past 10 years and you can't see the solder joints. If you like the Patina look for your projects, you can use the same Patina as you use for copper foil projects on your Leaded Glass Projects. Hopefully this helps you get started, please feel free to ask me any questions about any of these projects. Regards, Bill Stone From Sunny California
Looks like an interesting challenge Bill. Have watched several of your videos and have made a couple of your projects as well. Question ...what shape and size of lead came are you using, in particular, the U came? Thanks for the info and keep the projects coming.
Hi Don and Carol, Great to hear from you again!! The came used in all these projects are made be Cascade Metals, they have a great web page all about the different sizes of came and shapes. The U Came I use is RU-70, Has round sides and flat bottom. The channel 5/32", face 3/16", width 1/4" depth 1/8" and radius is 1/8". The H came is RH-9. The channel 3/16", face 5/32", width 9/32", depth 9/32" and radius 3/32". So glad to hear you have made a couple of these projects!! Which ones did you make?? If you go on the Cascade Metals web page the came chart comes up in MM, there is a box to check to get it in fractions. Hopefully this will give you enough info to get the came you are looking for. Have a great day, again great to hear from you guys. Regards, Bill Stone
Just came across your channel, it's great! Learning a lot! Question do you have any trouble with the lead deforming in the sun?? Had that happen to me. Thanks again!
Hi Ed, Thanks for subscribing to my You Tube channel. The only time I have had the U Came move away from the glass wasn't caused by the Sun, but rather where I had put my hangers. I have found out over the years to always put your hangers somewhere they will have some support other than just the U Came itself. Also always remember to stretch your Came to help make it a little stiffer and stronger on your projects. When you have time check out my video on how I make my hangers. Been making these for about 25 years and have yet had one fail and drop a project on the ground. So back to your question, I don't think it's the lead came that's deforming from the heat of the Sun, I would check out where your hangers are at in regard to the area where you're having the trouble. Hopefully that helps you out a little. Please feel free to ask me any questions about my videos. Also take another look at this video and you will see the hangers are located at one of the down pieces of H Came to help distribute the weight of the project. Regards, Bill Stone
I learn something new every time I watch your videos, I never thought of the lines in the glass. Thank you, your a good teacher 👍

Yes, you could do this project with copper foil. I would still wrap the outside edge with lead came to give it some strength, also would give you a place to put your hangers.
