    Thank you for the review! We always appreciate both criticism and feedback. However, I would like the chance to correct you on one thing. In regards to the hinge screws, it's actually impossible for them to back out with regular use, we designed our hinge screws to lock with Nylock nuts, furthermore, the through hole in which the screw passes through is a larger diameter than the pod itself. When the pod is rotating, it makes no contact with the screw meaning that your screw will never change position.
    We see your concerns about the dovetail interface and have been refining our dovetail as much as possible. We have a promising new revision for the dovetail that addresses all concerns, and likely be one of the strongest on the market due to the complex geometry of it.
    Thank you again for your honest review! Constructive feedback like yours is what helps excel our products and pushes those products to the next level.
    - Claude

    Picked up a pair of the V2s, have already had my dovetail crack right down the middle with normal use. They are taking care of me, excellent customer service.
    That being said, I i am having a bit of buyers remorse as I thought the dovetail portion would have been more robust. Looking at the Katana, I may have to see about possibly swapping in my tubes to that housing and relegate this LLUL housing for a cheapo GP set as a backup/friend use or something.

    These look promising. Personally I've already invested in a mono from Nocturn Industries (the Tanto) which is insanely light, especially with the RPO 3.0 eyepiece. Since I've put so much into that I'm saving up for another to pair it with their bridge. Specifically steered away from a PVS-14 because I ultimately wanted binos and RNVG just looked like a brutal neck workout. If I had to start over again though I might have gone with these.

    I have a set of BNVD 1431 MKII's as well as a set of LLUL-21's so i totally understand what you mean about the trade off, of having NODS that are lighter weight at the cost of convenience. The only thing I didn't hear mentioned in this review is that Low Light Innovations (LLI) have a "No Questions Asked" Warranty on the housing. So if the LLUL-21 housing fails for any reason, LLI will replace them. Also, if LLI come out with a newer housing they will give you full retail for your old LLUL-21 housing should you choose to upgrade. As Always....Great Review HOP!!!!

    Glad to see you review these, I've been looking forward to it! I really wonder how the long term durability of these are and the flex is worrying but the weight is tempting. I'm hoping to pick up one more night vision set sometime and I kinda doubt this is it for the purpose I have, handing one to a friend so we can go out at night and maybe shoot. I lean toward the RPNVG's right now for a long term future purchase but I'll be keeping an eye on LLI in the future to see what else they come out with. Right now the prospect of detaching a set of bino's to create a pair of mono's is maybe more useful for my purposes than an ultra-lightweight set.

    I'm not sure if I share your past sentiment on 3d printing being a waste of plastic, as I think it has some huge benefits in terms of rapid prototyping and self manufacturing. I do question it being used as a manufacturing process for a final, retail product. I suppose these are pretty low volume products. Have you had any issues with any of these 3DP night vision parts/accessories?

    Those look like a nightmare. I would be worried constantly about screws not being tight. I got the next best thing; 1431 MKII's with RPO 3.0 glass. Having two power sources, manual gain and common optics + tubes were requirements for me. The RPO glass allows me to balance the 1431's with just the Argus usbp. Overall great, but I feel like I end up using my pvs-14 more, much easier to just bring a thermal up to your eye without having to rotate a pod out of the way.

    As a professional user of NVGs, plastic dovetail housing, cheaper plastic materials holding very expensive optics makes me leery. Smacking nods on entryways, in and out of cars, whatever stuff you might not intend to bump into when wearing them requires just a little bit of robust materials to ensure they don’t snap right off. While I can appreciate saving weight, I’d rather have the option for an onboard battery AND a cable/battery pack. Plenty of times I didn’t run a battery pack for a number of reasons. I do like the market expanding its options and 3d printing has come a long way. This seems like a good way to repurpose anvis tubes cheaper than other market options. And most people are going to take them out very rarely anyway, so might as well save some money where you can if you can live with the downsides

    I know weight savings on your helmet is a massive influence on most of your decisions. But. If your still on the hunt for a good system. I would like to recommend the bnvd mk2. Slightly heavier. 600g . But. I have put them through absolute hell and they havent missed a beat. The 31s were a pain to get pieces for and these take 14 optics. So they have all the 14 adjustments.
    And they are not printed. Glassfilled nylon polymer mold. The only real downside if you see it as one is the pod doesnt turn off as you fold it up. Only when stowed.

    i'm a katana person and I dig 'em! my friends have a few pairs of LLULs, one aeternus, one friend has 1431s and another pal has a 14, but I don't spend a lot of time with any of their devices, so other than being annoyed by the differences between their devices and mine, i don't really notice the features. all of our helmets are set up, so it's not like the difference in balance really impacts me.
    I'd say the style of printing on the nocturne feels tougher and more hard-wearing which makes me feel more secure. I'm really into the 123a in the click button because I have a lot of non-tactical use for my set, I like Stargazing with my sub and she considers the opportunity a reward for good behavior- it's nice to not have that reward marred by the inclusion of my sweaty ops core carbon with the blackbeard patch and the peltors.
    TBH i don't believe any bino setup is ever going to be the ticket for running an ultralight NV rig for training or ReCcE because monoculars exist and will be roughly half the weight. it's nice to have lighter weight but if i were buying again now, i'd pay in ounces and articulation just to hear those three little words, "these are bombproof."

    5:28 The infinity focus stop ring on this device would work just fine if Hop bothered to set it by tightening the grub screw. The ring on this device is just like the one on any PVS-14 or other device using standard PVS-14 style focus stop rings. You can even see the grub screw in this video while he is spinning the ring around, so the problem isn't that the component wasn't provided correctly. The criticism presented that the LLUL-21's focus stop ring doesn't work is not valid as Hop simply didn't understand how to make use of that feature.

      Expecting plastic stuff to snap apart and break at any moment is fud lore
      If the 3D printed gun community is anything to go off of its that 3D printed plastics are far from ultra fragile
      I think there is actual criticism in the dovetail and holding mechanism being entirely plastic, as that's a point of high stress that would definitely do with a metal upgrade

    • @musician445
      @musician445 Год назад

      Watching Trex's vid with the guy from Nocturnality, he pointed out that you can use iris caps to achieve the same thing, unless i was misunderstanding what he was saying. I'm not a user yet but will be soon. Manual gain may not be that big of a deal in the grand scheme, but again idk.

    • @brandonschwertley2723
      @brandonschwertley2723 Год назад

      @@musician445 I really think the Trex vids did more harm than good, the Nocturnality guy did a lot of general talking which muddied the waters, but didn't do enough to clear them up.
      It is true if you have a device that does not have manual gain, you can still influence the brightness you receive by using adjustable iris caps. However there is a serious drawback to doing this. You are limiting the amount of light coming into the device to achieve this desired outcome. Which will reduce the light amplification properties of your device. Plus automatic gain may still automatically adjust when you may not want it to.
      Gain control just reduces how much the device amplifies the light in the image sent to your eyeball. While still allowing the maximum amount of light into the intensifier tube. Remember, you need some light in order for the device to function. Manual gain is really useful because of how varied lighting conditions may be. It also allows you to better set your brightness so your natural night vision doesn't get completely nuked in one or both eyes.
      I strongly recommend getting a device with manual gain, which isn't hard since the majority of new devices have that feature. I believe what the Nocturnality rep was trying to express was not getting bogged down if your device doesn't have manual gain. Instead make lemonade with those lemons and get the adjustable iris cap to solve your problem. Because night vision devices are expensive and replacing them isn't usually practical.
