Great video, Melrose. I'm subscribing! A Pinay in Ecuador? Que rica! Sitting in my Fort Lauderdale hotel, two days before I fly to Quito and a new life in Ecuador. I love your love of comida tipica and will definitely retrace some of your steps in exploring some of Ecuador's eats. Gracias.
Loved the video and brought back memories. My wife is from Ecuador, and last year we went. Much of what was in this video I saw first hand, and the food too. Humitas, pataconas (forgive my spelling), and the fresh blackberry juice were among my favorites. We drove a lot too. From Quito to Santo Domingo to Cuenca and back to Quito. So much good food, and driving through the mountains was breathtaking and also frightening too.
Oh yes, we would love to go the first two weeks of July every year, but it's looking like we will be going every other year. Something I forgot to add we're the caña. I took the risk dealing with Luiz to be in charge of my trade and finally end up with perfect testimony.his platform is amazing and very straightforward.
I've lived in Ecuador for nine years now with my husband. You have to be extremely careful with street food and eating salads or fruits in restaurants, anything that isn't cooked, I can't tell you how many times my husband and I have gotten parasites, you need to take parasite meds from the pharmacy every four months or so for three days. I bought strawberries and washed them really good as I do lettuce, tomatoes, fruits anything that we don't cook. I got so sick on the strawberries I was put in the hospital and given an extremely strong medicine in an IV and it took days to get rid of and then after that I was still having some problems. Strawberries and any berries is difficult to wash with either soap and water or vinegar because they are so soft, the parasites are right in them and you can't get them out. Fruits like apples, pears, oranges, mangoes, bananas, anything like that with a skin on them is better to eat as you can wash them very good, peel the skin and there is no problem, but the berries are soft and you eat the entire berry and the parasites are inside so be careful. As far as street food goes, you have no idea how long they've had the food out in the sun or out using the same chicken or food for a few days without refrigeration. You have to be careful what you eat and make sure it's clean and you go to a decent restaurant to eat, not just any place. We were going to this one restaurant for a very very long time and every single time I had a salad there with lettuce I got parasites. Be careful, it's not as easy as this girl in the video is making it out to be, she is just a visitor, she doesn't live in Ecuador. The sauces they make are excellent but the places that she is eating at right now is out in the open and the food is out in the open and there are lots of flies especially where I live in Cotacachi. Be careful where and what you eat.
