      Except there are objective qualities about opera that can't be ignored or glossed over, and are required for great singing.

      You can bray about this singer all you want but he cannot hold a candle to Bernheim or Tetelman. I am not a rabid fan of either but I have an educated knowledge of good singing and Mr. Tomasso’s voice is unfinished, rendering out-of-tune singing that is not even in tone from top to bottom and requires entirely too much muscular effort for the higher pitches (which in turn creates out-of-tune singing an uneven tone - a vicious cycle).

    • @pedrohasallthepower
      @pedrohasallthepower 2 месяца назад +4

      The vibrato is also out of control, sometimes it's steady with the right width and the correct emphasis of the oscillation (the peak). Unfortunately it's the vibrato is wobbly, making it really hard to discern a pitch

  • @doGreatartistsgrowontrees
    @doGreatartistsgrowontrees 2 месяца назад +7

    “How low, far …. we have fallen”, wrote another commenter. Oh so true. But yesterday, 17 November, on the Met stage, another even lower depth was reached with their disastrous performance of Trovatore during which neither the soprano (Angela Meade) nor the tenor (Michael Fabiano) could complete their gig. Both were replaced mid performance. Remember, they are what, by today’s obliterated standards, pass for “stars”.

  • @matthewwithers1185
    @matthewwithers1185 2 месяца назад +14

    Wow, this was rough. I appreciate that he’s singing full out, but the vibrato is out of control. It’s hard to find the center of the pitch. He sounds sharp in several spots. Also, not sure why Yannick is taking such a slow tempo-it really doesn’t help.

  • @DanielKirillov-iv3ww

      In the MET videos you can‘t hear squillo from any singer. To be honest… Freddie doesn‘t have too much of it. But for example Michael Fabiano who clearly has a lot of squillo, it is NOT audible on the MET videos. Nevertheless I am a big fan of Freddie - don‘t get me wrong. I‘m literally travelling behind him. Therefore I can tell you how he sounds live in the opera house. However Freddie has beautiful colours which you partially can‘t hear on video.

      @@ObadiahScott I've been saying this for years. The Met's audio engineering department is absolutely terrible. Sure, they have won lots of Grammy awards for their audio, but I think it's a total farse. They NEVER capture singers well, their audio is a mess from one side of the stage to another. The singers with big voices sound small and the small voices sound huge. They don't understand the acoustic at all. So it's no surprise to me that Freddie's voice doesn't sound well, NO ONE'S voice does.
