    so just to clarify, even one frame of a down input would be enough to not get past step 2, correct?

      Getting a down input will put us in more danger of getting clipped while moving, ideally there will be no down inputs at all to execute this technique properly. Nobody is perfect but we always want to strive for the best scenario
