@Sportive Cyclist Nice video indeed ! You forgot to mention the safety cord that attaches to the handlebars from the computer is a keen idea. 7 yrs. ago my Bryton 530 dislodged out of my computer mount damaging the screen. I sent Bryton a message stating what happened & if their is a crash replacement warranty. I decided to purchase another Bryton Rider 530. Fast forward to 2022, ( 7 yrs. later )I decided to purchase the Bryton Rider 750 and was pleasantly surprised to see Bryton added a safety cord that attaches to the handlebars !
Thanks I decided to buy the upgraded Bryton S500, after watching this video and the Bryton S500 video. I enjoy watching your reviews, and have watched quite a few. I feel like the only bad thing about the 750 was the processing power. With the S500 this should be fixed, so there was no reason not to buy it! I only believe the surprise me route thing is scrapped in the S500, while it was in the 750. I do not know if the surprise me routes, are actually worth it. I don't think they are for me. So thanks for this extensive and enjoyable review!
Apart from a surprise import tax my 750 has been a cracking buy. Totally reliable with all the features you need and no hassle syncing the ride data. Much better than my previous garmin 520 and stages L50.
I have the rider 420 for over a year now and LOVE it, it pairs with Gamin sensors (My old ones) and I use the Magene HR and speed/cadence sensors, Value for money is off the chart IMHO and Next bike computer I buy will be the 750. Learning any new bit of hardware can be tricky if you're used to doing things in a certain way, but I find the Bryton super simple. I use the Rider420 on all my bikes, road, track and Mountain. Flawless with my Vector3 dual power pedals as well. It's a great tool!
Thanks Trevor. It's good. I suppose it depends a little how much you are bought into the Garmin 'ecosystem' with your Edge 1000. If you are a keen user of the Connect app etc, it can make sense to stick in the same family. The Bryton device definitely costs less cash though...
I'm not sure what to suggest. It's a while since I've used the 750. It's probably worth checking that the firmware is fully up to date. Also, I think there are different options on which satellite networks you can take the signal from. Maybe another option has better coverage in Germany?
Just bought one of these and waiting for it to arrive I thought for £169 it was worth a punt. The only disappointment is no usb c, most of the issues you raised could probably be sorted with firmware updates.
thank you very much for this absolutely comprehensive video. You really made a thorough explanation! I bought myself a rider 750 after your first impression video and I must say I am absolutely in love with it! Yes, it tracks Campagnolo EPS effortlessly! Allow me an absolutely stupid question, which is: I have seen that you have been able to set up your data fields with either black or "white" background. Where did you set that up? Mine only comes out with white fonts on a black screen, but I would love to set the opposite solution. Could you help me figure out where do you choose this setting?
Thanx for your review. I saw GPLama roasting bryton for having sticky watts and cadence. Do you know anything of this issue ? Possible to find out if it is still and issue ? Thanx
Do you know if this has the temperature display bug? I have a Rider 320 which I use on my mountain bike. I particularly enjoy riding in sub-zero temps at night here in the UK, but noticed that the temperature dashes out ( --- ) on the screen if the temp is below zero. However, the saved data file that is uploaded, will show negative temperatures. I reported this to Bryton, but alas, their customer service is non-existent.
A quick question: if you have a route downloaded to the device, do you still need the phone to be on and connected or can the 750 navigate the uploaded route without the phone being connected? Thanks
Hi Nicolas - I tested this after you left your question. I disconnected the Bluetooth connection between my phone and the Rider 750. I then selected a route on the device and followed it out on a ride (without the phone being connected) and it worked absolutely fine. The key navigation feature that does need the phone to be connected is voice navigation.
i have to buy my first gps device for my bike. I can choose between the Bryton rider 750e or the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam (first edition). Each are about 150 £, which one should i buy?
Between these I'd go for the Roam. It isn't touch screen but it is easy to use and has proper onboard navigation on the device, rather than piggybacking of the phone's GPS like the Rider 750.
Can I load GPX files to the 750? I want to use turn by turn maps when in Europe and the tour company says they have GPX files available for self guided tours
Hi, thanks for the indepth review. Can you put a go pro underneath the out dront mount? Like the garmin 830 mount or the sigma rox 12.0 ? Very handy for me. Thanks!
Price wise, it’s good. The app however, so frustrating. My ride not uploaded into the app. The app did not sync my ride to strava and uploading long rides (100km and above) take longer time. I had to reinstall and clear the histories/reset the device to got it right again and had to run the strava too in case the app not syncing again. Currently looking for reviews on garmin. Hopefully garmin connect is way better than bryton active app.
Yeah that’s fair about the app. Better than it was in terms of stability but still clunky. Garmin Connect is a lot more polished. Can still be a bit quirky with random connection issues. I’ve found the best app & device combo is the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT. I’ve done a review of that. Review of the Edge 530 is on the way at some point.
Not sure what the extended display is. If it’s a Garmin specific thing I’d say not. If the HRM function of the fenix can broadcast via ANT+ or Bluetooth then it should pick up heart rate from that. If not then I’d say not for heart rate as well.
I am using a Briton Rider 15, even more entry level but does exactly the same things. After 3 years of daily use the battery is starting to fade and it has started freezing on me from time to time mid-ride, so I am looking for a replacement. Will stick with Bryton, just not sure what model. Have you got any tips?
for this bike computer, is there an option on navigation to return home from where you start? this happens to me when I was in the forest single track trail with few loops and I lost where I parked my car, I was able to find but it took me an hour in the middle of the forest to find where I parked and I almost locked in the parking closing time :)
You can certainly use the app to create a route and sync that with the device. I can’t speak to how helpful it’ll be in your use case as I don’t really use it off road. I do note that the Garmin Edge 530 has various mtb features and I think integrates with trail apps so possibly worth checking that one out.
I mainly use my bike computer for navigation. What’s the quality of the maps on this device? How is the turn by turn navigation? Re-routing etc. I do mis that in the review.
Hmm, pretty sure I showed footage of the maps and me following a route with turn by turn directions. I'm afraid there is a limit on how much can go in a video to try to cover all the bases, without it being too long. I'll put it on my list to do a deep dive video on navigating using the Rider 750. The turn by turn directions are good - they show up clearly and appear sufficiently before a turn. The map detail is ok - it is in colour and clear. The maps are quite slow though - to move around and zoom in/out. Re-routing wise - I've been limited by the roads I ride on (there's not much to re-route - you're either on or off it). Will report back when I can go further afield... If you want a quick answer now though, the Garmin Edge 530 is better for navigation than the Rider 750 (but isn't touchscreen). I am sure the 830 is as well (not bought that one yet) but that's a lot more expensive.
@@Sportivecyclist That's disappointing. I've got the edge 830 and navigation is very poor being downright useless if you don't follow the course and need to re-route. The 1030Plus seems much better but so it should for that amount of money.
IMPORTANT: Note that rerouting doesn't work on preloaded routes made by any of the route planners (either Bryton, Strava, Komoot or others). If you deviate from the route you will have navigate on your own back to the originally planned route.
Hi, I really liked your review. I am about to buy this device and I have two questions. 1) Can you see in your screen the elevation profile of your route? Is this option available? 2) Can you set out a virtual partner to contest, like previous rides or an average speed? Thank you
Hi Nikólaos - on 1. there is definitely an elevation screen available whilst you're riding and, when you press to follow a route, the summary page at the start shows the elevation profile for the whole route. I just can't confirm right now that it shows the elevation profile still to come, in addition to what you've already ridden. It must do (why wouldn't it?) but I can't say for definite until I try it. I'll aim to do that today (though it has just started snowing here...). On 2. I don't think so. Not that I've found. You can turn previous rides into workouts on the smart trainer but no virtual partner on the road (like the Strava live segments feature on the Edges and ELEMNTs).
@@Sportivecyclist thanks for the quick reply. The partner it is not something important, but the elevation it is especially in a long high hills. I am looking forward for your next try and your response about the elevation, when the weather calm down.
Hi Lester - do you mean the graphical displays? The dial and the chart? If so, these are options within the data fields. I think they are in a separate category of graphical options, but you add them in to the display like you would any other number or text data field.
I regret buying the 750 (even though price of Edge 830). Worst problem is the highly reflective screen and very dull display (half as bright as Edge 520). Apparent water ingress affecting corners of display (only 4 months old). Annoying layouts (can't have 4 equal height fields) and now problems with buttons.
No you don’t. The only function (off the top of my head) that needs the phone connected is the voice navigation feature. Otherwise it all works without the phone. I tend to still have my phone in my pocket connected to the device though - it just doesn’t use as much battery as the screen doesn’t need to be on.
As a first bike GPS after using a phone I’d be tempted to check out the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT as well (I’ve done a video review). It’s a bit more polished in terms of user experience. Cheaper as well - but then it’s not colour and it doesn’t have a touchscreen. The Rider 750 is a good device though.
sorry if this sounds stupid but im just about to buy my very first bike computer. is there an auto-pause/resume feature or does it need to be done manually?
No it’s a good question. The Rider 750 does have an auto pause feature. Under the Ride Config option in the relevant Bike Profile, you can set ‘Smart Pause’ on or off.
