    This will drastically reduce the cost of your oil changes. I also show how to add a drain tube and some other maintenance tips.

    Thank you … I really appreciate the way you simply explain what and how to perform maintenance on the E130 JD .. I can’t understand why JD put the so called easy oil change system on their engines because it still leaves about 1 and 3/4 quarts of dirty oil still in the engine after charging out the oil container … unbelievable and you pay $55 for the new oil Easy change container.. not good. Thank you again very much appreciated! USMC Veteran.

    I learned somewhere, many years ago, that you can use household tin foil to easily craft a funnel or make-shift trough for the oil to flow over and into your drain bucket or catch pan. Keep some good 'ole Reynold's wrap or other rolls of tin foil handy for anytime you're doing oil changes, modifications or whatever, so you can help avoid spilling oil all over everything. This was especially helpful on my motorcycle, which was not designed well at all and draining the oil would spill it directly on top of the exhaust headers. Not something I wanted to ever deal with on that bike for sure!

      Just thought of another reason you could justify the easy change oil filter. Even though it's a total ripoff, many weekend warriors aren't cautious or could potentially cause damage to their lawn mower engines by not adding the correct amount of oil to the engine. By simply doing the easy change, they are less likely to burn up their mower engine, and hopefully they still check the level and add oil when necessary. Otherwise, I'm doing this oil filter conversion asap on my brand new JD mower I just bought last night! Not buying another $55+ easy change joke of a filter again!

    I would recommend waiting until all the oil has drained out. Then wipe out the oil filter hole really good and use a little lock tight on the oil filter nipple going into the engine block. This will keep it from unscrewing with the oil filter.

      I suspect JD was going for planned obsolescence.
      The engine is the most expensive part of a mower. If it fails, most people will just buy a new mower rather than replace the engine especially if the mower is more than 8 or 10 years old.
      Perhaps, this is what JD is banking on. However, in light of all the articles and RUclips videos exposing the fallacy of the "30-second" system it seems to have backfired. Realizing the risk to future sale, perhaps this is why JD now offers a refit kit to revert to a standard oil change system.

    I'd like to see one of the EC filters cut open. If it has filter media the full length, that's a hell of an oversize filter, and I'll just leave the EC filter on and replace the crankcase oil, once or twice, and replace the EC filter on the 2nd or 3rd crankcase oil change. If it turns out the filter media is just a short section like the standard filter and most of it is empty space, then convert to a regular one.

    The easy change filters are now $ 58 including tax. If they sold them for $25 I would still buy them, but they are just ripping people off. I did the conversation today in about 45 minutes. The new filter and oil were about $12. The only pain in the butt was the original drain plug! It’s set way back in where it’s hard to get a wrench on! I’m sure you can buy that square socket. But I didn’t want to go out looking for one. I managed with a short 11 mm open end wrench, a large screwdriver for prying it up. Once you break the plug free, your home free. Thanks for the video on this as it really helped

      The S means it's for petrol engine and the second letter is the latest version of the performance addictive. I wouldn't lose any sleep using any 10w-30 or 5w-30 on that engine. Those are actually really good engines. Just make sure to change the oil AND the oil filter. If the oil level gets too high check to see if the oil has gas in it. Which can be caused by the fuel pump. Other than that and adjusting the valve clearances at every 200 hours it's a really good engine.

      I can only tell you from my experience when working at a JD dealership. I'm sure things vary between dealerships depending on management, etc. The oil filter conversion would only affect a warranty claim if the conversion caused the issue being claimed. The most common warranty issues with a 100 series mower was a deck issue. Like a spindle or idler going bad. The oil filter used on the engine would have nothing to do with it. However, if you ran the engine out of oil, and it was caused by an oil leak caused by the customer doing the oil filter conversion, it would NOT be covered under warranty. I leaking gasket or seal other than the oil filter conversion should still be covered under warranty.

    Why convert back to a littler oil filter (I’ve seen both cut out of the can and 30 sec change filter is over twice the size) I’m sure this has been tested and proven to work fine by John Deere and what’s a few extra bucks after spending a few thousand for your mower and tell me has anyone heard of any issues with this system because I have not.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  3 месяца назад

      . The biggest issue is the price for the filter alone, $50. Plus, you still normally need to add about 1 quart after installing the easy change filter.
      The filter can be hard to find at times. The JD dealership I worked at would often run out of them so people had to wait days longer for their " 30 second oil change"
      The 2nd issue is that it only replaces a portion of the oil, about 1/3.
      After doing the conversion, you can then change the oil and a conventional filter for $20 while replacing all the oil.

  • @bowtihi6830

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  Год назад

      Only if the issue trying to be claimed under warranty is caused by what the customer did. If your engine runs out of oil or too low on oil for example it wouldn't be covered under warranty any way. Just like if you hit a rock or tree or and damage your spindle or deck that too would not be covered under warranty. A manufacturing defect not related or caused by your replacement of the oil filter would still be covered.
