    In this video I’m doing an Amex Gold Card review after using this American Express credit card for 3 years now. The Amex Gold Card has been one of my favorite credit cards for a long time because it’s got a lot of valuable features and benefits. To me, the Amex Gold is worth it for the $250 annual fee, but it will not be worth it to everyone unless the things I talk about in this video relate to you as well.
    First of all, the American Express Gold Card has a great sign up bonus that can range from 60,000 to 90,000 Amex Membership Rewards Points. It also has some of the best spending multipliers out of any credit card on the market because it earns 4 Amex points per dollar on restaurants and groceries, as well as 3 Amex points per dollar on flights. With all of these ways to earn points, there is a lot of value that you can get out of the Amex Gold Card!
    This Amex credit card also has $240 worth of annual credits with Uber and select dining partners. These credits can help to almost completely offset the $250 annual fee for some people, but you have to make sure that they are actually valuable to you before you get the Amex Gold. For me, I have been able to use almost all of my Uber credits and roughly half of the dining credits over the past 3 years of using this American Express card.
    The Amex Gold Card also has the ability to transfer your credit card points out to many great transfer partner programs for hotel stays and flights. This is the best and most valuable way to use your Amex Membership Rewards Points because other redemptions could devalue your points. I would avoid redeeming your points for cash back with the Amex Gold card, and this video explains why.
    Overall, I would say that the Amex Gold Card has been worth it for me after 3 years of using it. I renewed this credit card again for a fourth year by paying the $250 annual fee, so now I have paid $1,000 in total to have this card in my wallet. I know that it’s been worth it for me after running the numbers for myself, so hopefully this video about my honest experience with it can help you to decide if the Amex Gold is worth it for you!

    The Amex Gold card is one of those cards that is GREAT card depending on who you are. With the SUB, it's always worth it in year 1 regardless of the credits. The big question is what happens after that, as you pointed out, because then it may not be worth it for some people. It definitely sounds like this card is worth it for you! I eat a lot.. So yeah the Amex Gold Card is still a no-brainer for me despite some increased competition recently. Super easy to earn points with those Food-related Point Multipliers, and when you have those points, like you mentioned having Amex Points really opens the door to some fantastic travel redemptions. Great video as always Daniel!

    I liked the video, I have been learning a lot from you! My only comment would be to call out also the short term additional offers that these cards have. Clearly it is impossible to plan in advance but even using 4-5 of them in a year can give significant cash back or additional points.

    For me the Amex gold is a no brainer. Got the Amex gold in August and so far it’s great. I live in NYC and I Uber and order food almost once a week. The benefits are extremely easy for me to use. That Uber credit in conjunction with the Uber one benefit complimentary from the savor one card is great. I also eat out maybe 2-3 times a months so 4x back on restaurants is great. I also food shop based on what I like and not what’s on sale so I end up spending a lot food shopping.

      Same, I’m a college student so naturally I eat out and uber. I always offer to put a group meal on my card 😂 and there’s a Shake Shack near campus as well as a Cheesecake
      Factory in the city.

  • @sjg6158
    @sjg6158 8 месяцев назад +9

    Inflation has definitely pinched the value of the Gold Card over the past few years, especially with Uber costs rising and food costs rising. The dining credits don't allow for nearly as much value now as they used to. I used to eat at the Cheesecake Factory quite a bit (or take out from there), but the portions are now half the size and price / dish way up. So, the $10 monthly credit is not nearly as valuable as it was.
    Excellent video as usual. AMEX definitely tightened up their requirements, etc.

    I’m on my 3rd year with this card, it’s still worth it for me. Dining credit alone. However, you just have to remember to use it over another card to get your $10 statement credit. 😅 I do wish they would increase their dining partners tho. 🤦🏽‍♂️

      I had one year of monthly dining credits on my Delta card that could be used anywhere. These were the temporary credits that Amex was giving to Delta and Hilton cardholders during the pandemic. Dining credit is too limited and I don’t use Uber at all, let alone at least once a month. Hey my friend. I’ve been thinking about this one a lot. I find the dining credit at best inconvenient, and at worst a complete loss. If I have to change my plans to get to a Shake Shack, a place I rarely went before I got the Gold, then the card is driving my life - not good. I don’t live in a city, so rarely take Ubers, and Uber Eats, even if I pick up the order is more expensive than ordering directly from the restaurant. So, I’m not getting the Amex-stated value of those credits. So, I’m leaning toward canceling at renewal time. There are too many solid options out there for food without playing Amex’s coupon game. Hope your spring/summer is going great!

    This card stayed in my wallet for the first three years, but this year I did decide to close it and move to the Capital One Savor card.
    The main reason for the switch is that we purchased season tickets to our local MLS team so that $11,000 using the Savor card at 4% is a pretty good benefit. I didn’t use all of the AMEX credits, and I found myself using Uber only to use the credits. And on the Savor card I get the Uber one $10 credit and then I get 10% back if I decide to use Uber. We average $1.2k monthly on groceries and between $9k-$10k a month using the Savor and Venture X combo. It's a solid setup!

    Just got approved for the Amex Gold! Definitely going to benefit me, using the grub hub and uber eat pick up, the hotel collection from going to vegas multiple times a year, i go to cheesecake factory a lot, and fiance & i go out to dinner a lot

  • @Houman7
    @Houman7 8 месяцев назад +4

    Recently got pre-approved for Amex Gold with 90000 welcome bonus after spending 4000$ plus 200$ hotel statement credit for the first year. Yet ended up opening CSP.
    Because of having Amex BCP which gives me 6% on grocery and 3% on gas and transit and CFU which gives me 3% on dining and 1.5% on everything else opening Amex Gold was a bad decision for me since 4% on grocery and dining is not useful at all with my setup and I barely take uber or go to shake shack.
    I think this is a excellent card if it’s perks work for you and you don’t have cards with similar features otherwise what I’ve seen with most of my friends is that you get it for a year or two and end up closing it cause it doesn’t make sense anymore.

    So the way I’m understanding it, after 3 months, I won’t have $30 in a grubhub acct, I get $10 a month credit (which honestly is nothing for lunch nowadays) but it doesn’t roll over month by month?

    Cash back in AMEX is not 0.01 for 1 point, it is actually far lower than that. 60k points translate to $360 if you were to cash back. It is a far inferior card if you intend to cash back into statement credits.

      It’s a credit of $10 per month if you used the card that month for Uber or participating dining services.
      So if you don’t use it during that month, you don’t get it. The credit doesn’t roll over to the next month
