I felt that one because my mother is the only one in my family that speaks Spanish while everyone else, including myself, speaks both. For those who wants to be parents, it would be upsetting if your own child or children doesn’t even know the language of your people; which, in a way, makes you feel disconnected to your roots.
To be fair though, why didn't she teach Manny?

She was on track to become the world's hottest dentist before she gave it up three years in for modeling and showbiz. She's not an idiot.
This hits hard as a child of immigrants. My parents have passable English for day to day activities, but when they meet my friends etc I wish my friends knew how funny, smart and sweet my parents are in their native tongue, rather than just polite and friendly.

And that concludes today’s lesson from Jay on Emotional Intelligence. What an amazingly well written character.
This is maybe the most emotional scene for me involving Gloria.
My mom is from Puerto Rico and I remember my little brother making fun of her accent when we were kids. She must have been so hurt. She never gave up on us tho and she would always sit down and make sure I have my homework done. ❤❤❤
My mom is also from Puerto Rico, and if I made fun of her accent she would've smacked my mouth to the other side of my head.

I know I'm talking about Sofía Vergara and not Gloria Pritchett, but I can actually say that she really is clever and assertive in Spanish, quick-witted and fun.
Many English speakers seem to take people with heavy accents as less intelligent, and prefer to ignore the true mark of intelligence when it comes to speaking a second language: fluency.
A heavy accent can just mean that the person learned the language late in life , or just maybe doesn't have a good ear for it.
English is INCREDIBLY difficult to learn too so it takes a lot of effort to get it right. That’s why I always make it a point to appreciate the effort whenever I’m talking with someone and they feel the need to apologize for not having the best English.
@@TheTimplatteI don't think it's "incredibly difficult" to learn. Obviously, it IS difficult for some peope, but with practice you can learn it!

English is easy to get the basics but very difficult to master as a second language because it’s such a mongrel language. So many idiosyncrasies
@@Pogol13It really depends. I can see Latin Americans struggling to learn it, but for the people in the Nordic countries or the Netherlands, it doesn't appear to be too difficult (but still requires work!).
These two are one of the healthiest couples in the history of tv shows.

Ya that might be true, but when you come to another country where the language is different from yours this is something you have to deal with. Yes it is nice for him to learn for her so she doesn't feel left out. Although i do feel for her she should of started working with him sooner or said something sooner. Going to another country and trying to make people assimilate to anthers previous language and culture isn't the way to go and causes more issues down the road. If she wanted a Spanish speaking family she should of married some one who spoke Spanish.

@@ryanlapeer4230 If I was married to Gloria, I would have learned her language through love. Every time I wanted to make love she would require several minutes of conversation in Spanish. In 2-3 months I would be fluent. Anyone would.

Wow im not even Hispanic person but I can relate as a non-native english speaker, when i type or write I can have time to think for words, but when I speak I keep stuttering and repeating the same lines I said cause my language's grammar is exactly opposite to English🤦♀️ I'm from S.K.🇰🇷😂 loved this❤

My dad did this for my mom and English is his second language also ( He’s Hungarian ) and it meant so much to her
My ex was Hungarian. Her English was near perfect. Her daughter (my stepdaughter) didn't speak a word of English, but she quickly learned and became fluent. She even made the English honor role within a year. Sadly, she then refused to speak Hungarian because she wanted to fit in and eventually lost the language entirely.

This whole scene hurts - it must be EXHAUSTING living like that.
This a seriously under appreciated scene in television. Its a very powerful statement that most dont get. I only speak english but thats why i can only imagine dealing with this type of frustration. Its why i go outve my way to give credit to ppl whom english is not a first language because so many dont get credit for how well they speak it since so many they speak to expect it

Western shows, especially comedy, usually don't have any sort of continuation. If they do, it's usually the exception rather than the rule.

I really wish we actually saw Jay speaking Spanish. It was only twice in the show and IIRC, the second time they talked about it, they treated as something new, not a continuation.
Also, why didn't Gloria ever teach Manny Spanish when he was a baby? I cannot imagine not speaking my own language to my child.
