New FL Studio Keyboards - Novation FLkey 49 and FLkey 61 First Look

- After the launch of the FLkey Mini and FLkey 37 last year, Novation have released the FLkey 49 and 61.
These are the first FL Studio MIDI controllers with faders, allowing us to mix directly from the keyboard. I'm so happy that they listened to feedback from the FL Studio community and decided to add faders, pattern modes and extend the keyboards for those who needed more range for their performances.
I'm honestly really excited about these ones (especially the FLkey 49) as they really are the best MIDI controllers for FL Studio in my opinion! It controls FL Studio’s Step Sequencer, Channel Rack and Mixer, and has Scale and Chord modes to improve your performances.
Were you also waiting out for a larger MIDI keyboard?
You can find out more about the FLkey MIDI keyboards and the included software here.

How nice of them to do it just after I bought the FL keys 37
Same lol xd
Same bro. Its a sad day for dure
Hi, Have a question if you can tell me about it.. I bought a lot of Midi Keyboards, All of them have the same problem, it is the Clicking Noise. It annoys me a lot. So what about this you bought. Can you hear the noise or it is better. and thank you.
@@7TH-JUNE Great question. Clicking from the keys or buttons?
All of the buttons are soft. The pads are velocity sensitive so do not click. The buttons do have a positive press but no audible click.
The keys do not click unless you push them heavily to the side to hit each other (this would not be the normal way to play!). They are virtually silent.
Can I ask with other keyboards create that clicking noise? I've used quite a few so might be able to help.
Me too😢
Some FAQ's based on lots of comments I received last time!
Please do ask me about them or any of the features.
Q - Does this work with other DAWs?
A - Yes, but it's not going to have the same function in other DAWs (The step sequencer is unique to FL Studio for instance)
Q - Are the keys weighted?
A - Yes, semi weighted. This means they have a responsive feel.
Q - Is the screen big enough?
A - For most people, yes! Honestly I don't use the screen when producing or arranging, only for checking which channel I have selected on the mixer or channel rack. I hear some people asking for a dedicated screen such as an iPad to be built into the hardware to controlFL Studio. This would be neat but much more expensive. Maybe someone is working on something like that!
Q - Is the included software any good?
A - Yes. The 6 month trial of FL Studio Producer Edition is fully featured. The XLN Addictive Keys Piano is phenomenal and the Klevgrand effects are brilliant, especially the reverb. The Labs Strings are equally brilliant but are available without purchasing the keyboard.
Also want to use in other daws..
Can the pads used for drums or midi controls?
Can the transport and mixer controls made to work ?
Thank you.
Imagine a touch screen ui with drag and drop for sample effects and instruments. With touch mixer, channel and bus routing. It'd be so much fun to be able to mix like that. Particularly if we could control instruments and effects without having to switch windows. Brings to my mind watching Lee Perry at the controls. Dreamy
Question for you: How well do these work with VST's within FL studio? If you have Sytrus, Harmless, Harmor, etc. do things such as modulation and pitch bend sync up really quick (and if you have anything such as Vital or Pigments, what's your experience with those)?
@@subramaniamchandrasekar1397 The pads and faders can be linked manually yes. I haven’t tried the transport controls but I don’t see why they couldn’t be linked with the right script?
@@TOEC good question. Pitch and mod link up every time and the pots and faders sync to key parameters. I personally like to put the pots into custom mode and link my macros to them in synths like Vital.
*I like how you review videos are straight to the point, keep it up mate*
Thank you so much for quick review! I have decided for 100% to buy it. Thank you again 🙏👏❤️🙋🏼♂️
I purchased the FLkey 49 this morning because of this review. You should set up an affiliate link - I’d be so happy to support you in any way, your videos are always so helpful!!
Magnificent series of keyboards 🎹🥭🔥
Just picked up the 49. Can't wait to get it! Great review, sir!
just wanted to say thank you for helping us... definately helped me along in some mixing on my songs.. appreciate you bro
I just bought one, arrived 2 days ago. Thanks for the heads up and review. It's perfect for my FL Studio setup.
I'm really impressed at the price point for these keyboards. I have the FL37 and I think it was worth every penny. The build quality is just PERFECTTTTT
It's so nice when the price/performance feels right.
@@inthemix Sir You Have 4 , Please Give me one (37 Keys)
@@Gyanmeenaspast
Looks amazing :)
Great review, thanks. I'm definitely picking this up since they included the faders now.
That is awesome 👏. I've been holding out to get one of these. I was almost going to buy the mini 25 soon. I had no idea FL was coming out with more keys and features. Now I want that 49 key lol.
This is fantastic! This just might be the best MIDI keyboard for FL Studio! 👍😃
I think the clone Pattern feature is really a game changer. So nice that they implemented that for the FL Key 37. Simple but so convenient. Great Video. Thanks.
I think this is what i need for FL. Thank you
Michael, your videos are always so helpful and have taught me so much about FL Studio. I think its time to upgrade from my AKAI MPK Mini to the 61 key. Thanks for this great review!!
really good video man
Thanks man. I learn so much from your videos.. You really do a great job putting all of them together and jamming so much information in each episode. Also I appreciate how articulate you are with your explanations and wording to make sure all viewers understand. Thanks man. Keep up the quality work! P. S. I'm sitting here waiting for my fl37 key to arrive now. So ready to try it out. Take care!
I knew this day would come. I love my FL 37 Key, didn’t think I’d be upgrading so quickly 😅
Good information bro ❤
Congrats on a million, Mike.
Thank you!
Wow I love this ❤❤
been thinking about buying the 37 since a long time and im glad i delayed it, the 49 looks amazing. thank you for this update, would've missed it if you didn't upload this lol.
Thank you, I’m glad to have helped!
Same here, I appreciate the review!
Thank You Bro🙌🙌Very Helpful Video🔥🔥.
Been waiting for something like this, thank you for the info, going to sell my maschine and akai combo setup I currently have for the 61 key version
Finally someone have the same problem I have!! LOL! I tried under the desk and on the side and in front of me keyboard I always go back to front because under the desk is so annoying yet it saves a lot of space and on the side is far away. Quite an unsolved dilemma.
What a great review. You rock.
I thought it was just me!
This is the first review video I found where the person would still consider 37 to be good enough over longer sized ones. It definitely seems to make a good fit on a desk that's about only as wide as the 49 keys one. Thanks for a calm and nice review.
I saw many people saying that 37 might not be enough if you want to make melodic music, so now I need to find out if music I like and want to eventually make is melodic enough.
Nice review.
Superb !
This is beyond anything I’ve ever dreamed of
I will get this. Thanks
I just got the mini and I’m in love, I started playing piano and I’m so interested in getting a larger one 😮💨
I would love to see a built-in pan filter resonance Eq and reverb like on the Akai Fire (which should have a reverb knob too). A LED section/ visual screen for EQ-ing and filtering sounds. A delay and distortion knob would be nice too. Make it just a little more hands on.
Product doesn't interest me but I'm always pleased to see a video from you. Cheers mate.
yess
Greetings for your wonderful work and your great ideas in benefiting every product around the world by explaining the work of each machine, how to operate it and the basics of its work .. Really, thank you... 🇱🇾 From Libya - Benghazi city

thank GOD i have nat gotten another midi controller i will go for this one thanks for this vid
Love it ..
Excelente video
IN THE MIX !
I just upgraded from 37 to 49 and I am so happy.
I've been using a starter keyboard for FL Studio (Alesis v49). This makes me want to upgrade!
Awesome
Nice midi Bro
Nice board! Visually looks almost the same as Launchkey mk3 series - with the same controllers layout, but perfectly integrated with FL.
As a user of both Ableton Live (for live performance - already having mentioned Novation Launchkey 61) and FL Studio (as a studio DAW) now I'm thinking about having one of these guys (probably 49 with the faders) :)
Dope
Wow🎉...This is lovely and amazing❤😍😘!...We are waiting for “Novation": Sound Card, Microphone, Guitar, Drums and more sounds gadgets too🎉🎉🎉
Thanks you
Great presentation!
👍 - _also_ for the YT algo! 😊
I knew they had to make longer versions, I almost buy the 37 but I need at least 4 octaves to play with 2 hands. Being patience has been rewarded 😊
Can u perform live using fl studio. Like using ur own ritms on back ground while playing a melody?
That's funnay as hell. Three years ago when I needed a midi keyboard for FL I went with the Novation 49. Looks virtually identical to that.
I'm glad I waited, and probably will wait a little longer. I see enough room for a drum pad to be added.
There is a drum pad on it already!
@@inthemix sorry I may have missed that part of the video.
ordered 49 key will arrive on 18th, can't wait for it.
How is it? I just ordered mine
It works really well with FL studio, however only for fl studio, if you are using other DAWs and when using non-fl based vsts it does the same thing like other midi keys@@RubyOnyxx
How nice of them after i bought a61 a year ago
lol. casual "i'm tall" drop at 6:55 - nice review :)
Akai Fire 🔥 + Nektar P4 😊Best combo for FL
🔥🔥🔥
would be cool to have for logic too
It's nice ❤💯🎶
Your hair is perfection.
Behringer Motor 49 / 61 have motorised faders (controlers) but it doesn't integrate so easily as the Novation FLkey. Love your presentation in your videos.
I’m going back to FL studio because of this new amazing invention for FL studio. I stop using FL studio for some years now simply because I mastered the program and there wasn’t a seamless integration like this. Now that this is something that’s accessible and hopefully for a reasonable price like I said at the very beginning of this comment I am going back I’m going right back to FL studio. I kind of lied OK, I’ll admit I’ve kept my eyes on FL studio I like the upgrades I love the new plug-ins I’ve had my eyes on it and I’ve dabbled just to keep myself familiarized with FL studio now that this keyboard is available for seamless integration again, I’m going back to FL studio. Thank you so much image line I really really do appreciate it.
I have the MPK49 and its still functional after all these years, but I feel like I had to do some setup just to get it to integrate it to FL Studio. Whenever that kicks the bucket, I'm definitely getting the 61 key version of this.
Still the best channel about everything regarding Fl and gears and what not , I have been following your channel from day one I remember asking you if I could get a producer certificate through you 😅tho it’s was in my different RUclips account which was deleted.. anyways always good to hear and I’m glad that you’re channel is the most educative channel so far as producers are looking up to !! Cheers 🥂
I actually remember you asking for that certificate. I still don’t know what you meant!
Thanks for the support.
@@inthemix might be asking if you have a course that leads to a certification at the end ?
@@inthemixHere in Asia mainly clients always like to know if the (producer)goes for certification courses or not so Certificate or Certified professional is something which is there in the minds of the people, you know even if producer’s are experts without certificate likes even diploma certificates it really counts .to open up even a Small Music studio for dubbing voice over etc .. Certified professional really matters here in our parts of our world.
Lucky i haven’t been able to save up to the 37 yet, so I can go bigger now 😄
If those faders were motorized when working the mixer, that would be awesome!
FL Studio 21 best DAW ever ♥ now with this line of controllers is a must to have ♥
I've just ordered the FL Keys 49 Michael. I'll let you know how I get on the next time I bump into you in Tesco's. 🙂
Good luck with your photography! I’m sure I’ll bump into you again.
Okay, this is awesome and all, good on them, but I just want an FL Studio version of the Ableton Push 2
you are the Mr. Rodgers of FL STudio
If they should ever consider adding the komplete kontrol series to fl studio i might consider buying one because most of my plugins are from native
I started using FL at I think what was version 3. Finally a decent manufacturer taking FLs users seriously. I always found integration with hardware such a fraught effort and outcome. To the point I basically ditched it
I actually ordered one as soon as I heard of this release, and flocked to your channel to see if you had posted a review. I was so excited to try it. Unfortunately ever since I received it, I've had nothing but problems. Writing this to help caution other potential buyers.
It makes my FL Studio software lag (when I unplug it, it goes back to normal). Some of my projects almost crashed and were ruined because of this. The additional Addictive Keys plugin selection is not available to you if you've already registered a previous Focusrite product. This was extremely disappointing as one of the reasons I bought it was to get another Addictive Keys product. The customer service has been quite slow, even when selecting "Urgent" as a priority. Even after installing all updates to drivers and FL Studio software, i was experiencing the same situation. The product, as advertised, also did not automatically speak to FL Studio. It took me hours, literally, to figure it out because since it's so new, there are no turorials available addressing hardware and software issues.
I'm not writing this to shame on the company, I have quite a few Focusrite products. Great stuff. But this FL Key 61, has been quite a fail if anyone asks me. I hope people will see this and consider this info before purchasing because I'd hate to see other producers get all excited to try it just to ultimately have their FL Studio crash and ruin their projects.
Also, it's been about a week since I orderd, and they haven't even charged my card yet, really shows how urgent they are on wanting their money.
For choosing parameters on a synth or editing samples and audio, a mouse is indispensable.
The Korg Taktile has an XY pad and 2 buttons below that can either work as a controller, or a mouse.
Maybe one day this type of pad will be added to these new keys...
You look great
Thx for the review.
I still got the novation remote sl 61 for years, handmapped, even transport buttons works flawless. Considering if i need this one just for a pair of extra options or does this really brings something extra?
👍👍👍👍
I still use the FL Keys midi 25. I love it.
I also search for free plugins. I wish there was a script that well I'm gonna do my best to explain. Certain plugins like ripchord, and Chordz you have to connect the with another working plugin to get them to produce sound. I'm wondering if there is a script that can be written so Chordz and ripchord won't have to be plugin to another plugin to produce sound? I'd like to be able to use Chordz and have it produce a sound.
Chordz and ripchord are free plugins. I love the Chordz plugin because you can make presets. It would be cool to have it make a piano sound on it's own.
I love you😍
so much space on that keyboard. And then this tiny display
What would you want to see on the display? Maybe some colour?
We need a whole control center with the akai fire sequencer, the keys, faders, drum pad I'd drop bred on it
the arturia mk3 has pretty much the same integration plus you can use arturia labs with full keyboard function inside FL
I tried the arturia keyboards for many years but the integration doesn’t work for me and I didn’t like the build quality compared to other brands. If it works for you that’s great!
Hey love and appreciate what you do for the community. Question... does the flaky 49 have a song/pattern short key?
Oh yes! I literally remember telling someone at FL...That if they made a bigger keyboard, I'd definately buy one. Not a fan of the small ones TBH...Hehe time to save up :)
Hello Michael! Nice review! Speaking of midi controllers and faders, I couldn't resist asking if you know/have tried the Icon QCon Pro X DAW Control Surface on FL STudio. I know this is off topic but it would be great if you could offer some opinion on this.🙂
Could you do a tutorial on using fl keys mini with 3rd party plugins pls?
Can those faders be used for cc controls or just as mixer faders?
Small request: Tell Akai we need an update to the Akai Fire!
I'm tempted with going down to 49 keys from my Nektar GX61. I'm not even that good a piano player but have always felt it's nice to have the extra reach so to speak.
I’m having issues with the faders and getting the buttons to work like the up and down to choose a different preset. Do you have to map it manually or does it automatically?
Now we just need fully MIDI Boo electric bass.
For me the ergonomics is an issue with keyboards, on the desk is clumsy, on the side you can't see your screen (not much use for that kind of controller). I never tried under, maybe that would do the trick.
I'm buying this and the native instruments maschine mk3 the buying the maschine midi script. So hopefully i can have a fully controller based setup.
I just gave up my Yamaha motif original 61 key and traded it in for the 51 key FL studio novation keyboard in terms. I already have her latest motif XF 76k it was really a pain when I first started messing around with motif xf and didn’t like so I’m good with trading it. Original motif was just collecting dust and how
I"m still waiting when its in the stores:(
Motorised faders - the Behringer Motor keyboards have/had them but integration with FLS is nowhere near as complete as with the FLkey Controllers (though the fader control and banking is pretty sweet)
I need Novation to build a mixer-focused board. No keyboard, no pads. I'm talking about a board that deals with just maybe 12 mixer tracks. Transport and looping controls off to the side (maybe a couple of free spinning knobs to set the start/end of the loop region?), play, pause, loop play. The whole board would start with 12 volume faders for 12 mixer tracks. Panning knobs underneath, which could also click by pressing down to change them between panning and stereo sep. A mute/solo button for each as well. Most importantly, 3-6 knobs per track with buttons to scroll through maybe 8 frames, to be assigned by the user to parameters on mixer effects. Preferably knobs which also click when you press them to switch between 0%, 100% and then the knob position, or maybe each knob would have its own color coded frames which could be cycled through by clicking. I would buy this instantly.
That looks pretty awesome!
I've currently got an Arturia Keylab Mk2 (I think I've seen you use one of those also in the past). Do you have any strong opinions on what would be more valuable, the Analog Lab/V-Collection control the KeyLab offers vs the DAW control the FL Key provides?
I normally make use of IL Remote which gives decent enough control of the main functions (though it's not as good as the FL Key looks in that regard) so am on the fence about upgrading!
Also just a quick note to say thanks again for continuing provide awesome content!
Thanks for the kind words and comment.
When Analog Lab was released, I really thought it was special. However, I haven't touched it in years as there are just so many better synths out there which gave me far more control. The DAW control is what sold me on FLkey. I ultimately sold my Arturia and haven't looked back. I think having the DAW synced up has been such a workflow boost for me. It's hard to quantify it but I just enjoy programming drums and making adjustments to plugins with the controller and ultimately I make music/record/ produce/mix for the love of it alongside the results.
@@inthemix It's a tricky decision indeed! Not helped by the apparently improved DAW control in the mk3 Keylab Essential (which I'm a bit doubtful about to be honest), also with a new version of IL Remote in development.
I can definitely see the benefit of more hands on control (IL Remote certainly helps a bit in this regard, but is relatively limited and pretty clunky to configure).
I really wish it was the norm to have music shops stock a wide variety of MIDI controllers that you can try before you buy like you can with so many instruments!
Also, just spotted the score log button. That's a super useful thing to have at a button press! Definitely leaning toward the FLKey at this point though. Thanks again for the info!
