I'm also thinking about getting the console. i wonder if my intel i5 quadcore (imac late 2013) is powerful enough for the multitrack process. Thanks for the valuable video.
I bought both of these new over ten years ago. Did two recordings with it on a mac mini. Then OS on the mini was longer supported. I cant unlock the Traction software that came with the mixer so its been just an analog mixer for years. Id like to record with it...
Yep the changes in OS and the fact that FireWire audio protocol is not recognised at all since the last couple of Mac OS updates means we lost what was a lovely plug and play hybrid workflow. These days of course many mixers do it over USB - like Tascam and SSL - but there are some thing I prefer about the old Mackies. One thing you can do of course is run inserts and/or buss outputs (on the bigger models, 1640 only I think) - into a multichannel audio interface. One extra step/device but once you get used to it, it can be a nice way to work - I have an example of this kind of setup in my video about the Korg Soundlink mixer btw
@@synthshed Defeats the reason I paid a premium for the 1640I instead of an analog only device. So basically all of those A/D D/A converters are useless....Was hoping I could get CD software comptible with the Mac mini and the Mackie.
my 1620i was working just fine last night - today i tried to power it on and it will absolutely not do anything it seems the power supply is completely DEAD i just paid to have a ton of other gear in my studio repaired and now i cant even use any of it im SO ANGRY - DO NOT SUPPORT MACKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY SUCK ive barely even got to use this thing i bought it new for 800+ $$$ didnt even use the firewire capabilities theres no reason why this should be happening to me right now
It seems that happened a bit more than you may know. It's likely a power supply issue, probably the capacitors. Any good electrician could fix it for a reasonable amount. The cost of parts is likely under $20. The good news is that they used much better quality parts in the 1640i, so it won't happen there for a good many more years. I bought mine 6 years ago, and it works like new! Good luck.
Sorry to hear that dude! I’ve never had any issues with the old Mackie’s but I guess they are old and legacy products now as far as Mackie is concerned, but shame they can’t help you out. Have you tried a local tech / repair person? I have one I use for stuff like this, fixing a power supply is not usually a huge issue but who knows, might be worth a shot? Good luck.
I have bought tons of equipment on craigslist that needed minimal repairs. Power supply issues are the most basic things to get fixed. If it were under warranty the whole board would probably be replaced instead of a 20p capacitor.... Have a tech look at it. Sounds like you know one.

power is one of the easiest things to fix and after 10 years it's almost expected ..
