First off, congratulations to you and Aja, and I am excited for you, and can feel your excitement as well.
I really appreciate you sharing your perspective on these topics. I’m a physician, practicing in a western-style of healing. In the past, but much moreso recently, I’ve come to realize that, when looked at more holistically, the western style has many blind spots. I believe Eastern traditions have massive insight into many aspects of health that would behoove humanity to take notice of, but, as you say, really focus on the “spirit of the law” rather than, as you mention can be meaningless, “letter of the law”. I practice in Hawaii, which is a fascinating blend of East and West in many things, and also contains an ancient “Eastern” tradition brought by Polynesians when they discovered Hawaii. I would love to chat about this with you if you’re willing and free. I understand the newborn phase though, so no pressure. I have a 3 yr old and 5 month old. Let me know if I can help, take care.

9:07 When you mention the incongruity of seasonality and locality, I also keep in mind that humans are not native to the Americas. And even though humans are also not native to the Indian subcontinent, certain foods have been vetted at least for the locals there, with their genetic makeup, for a few thousand years. Moreover, people in north India are related to people in the Middle East who are related to Europeans, so what they tolerate well should be potential food sources to consider for people in the West, unless allergic reactions are observed. While I understand and appreciate the value of eating local and reducing waste, I do lean more toward health optimization when I am cooking for myself from scratch. The energetics and connection to nature are nice, but a more systematic approach is helpful when dealing with health challenges. Yes, eating a hyped superfood may not really be that significant long-term, but if it becomes easily accessible, I would consume the item more regularly to see if I personally notice health benefits, e.g. wild blueberries and red rice from Thailand (love those). As for supplementation, sometimes you need due to genetic issues. One of my friends has a gene variant that requires him to consume methylated vitamins. He could get these from food sources, but on a Standard American diet, lol, that's not happening.
