Wow thank you for this. I had no idea some of the colours would be so unexpected!
And great idea doing the sample tiles!!
Wow you went through a lot of work to provide all those color samples. Thank you it was wonderfully informative.
The beauty of the colour samples if that you only have to do it once and you always have it to refer back to
Thank you so much for sharing this. Great idea with the half black half white tiles!
Maybe this is strange, but I use my old makeup. It works and I would otherwise throw out the makeup...
Me too. It works wonders on polymer clay, but I did just order a set of mica powders to try them out!
The tiles is a genius idea thank you!
It’s really pretty
Great video.
Thanks for that!! Some of them are so different amazing stuff I love it too!! :)
Good advice. Glad I found this. Thankyou.
Where do the numbers come from? I am assuming that they are numbers found on the mica packages maybe? And if so, do the numbers differ on different brands of mica?
The number are just for my reference as there was no identifying marks on most of the powders. It's so I can look at the swatch and identify the powder I need to get that effect.
Hi, what brand of powder are you using? Is there one you'd recommend?
I just looked for the cheapest mica that included a binding agent. It's all very similar. If you want to go for a brand, the Perfect Pearls is a good consistent brand.
I am a newbie with polymer clay and am having soooo much fun with it. This is probably a stupid question, but, can you use mica powder like pastel chalk to color your raw clay? Thanks so much!
It's not something I have tried but I think you can.
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns thank you so much!
Yes, you can.
Im new to clay... just have a question... is there a way to apply mica powder on dry clay? Love the idea you gave
You mean cured (baked) clay? The only way I know is with some sort of glaze or varnish.
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns yes baked/cured clay. Told you im new to this lol
Do you say or show anywhere the kinds of mica powders you use personally? Are you able to mention brands for instance? I might just not be seeing the tidbit if info as this video is a couple years old at this date.
They are mainly non branded mica powders from eBay. Some are Perfect Pearls
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns thank you for replying!! I appreciate your help!
If you use mica powders on already baked clay is there a sealer you recommend that won’t disturb the mica powders?
That's a great question. The only way I have used mica on already baked clay is by adding it to a clear sealer and using it like paint.
Do you use some kind of sealant or varnish at the end? So that the mica doesn't come off?
Yes. I use Fimo Gloss
Not sure if you will see this question but do you use a slightly wet brush when applying mica powder onto polymer clay?
No, I apply it dry to unbaked clay.
I love your channel.
TheiLoVeHuMaNs thank you!
Resin mica can you use those on clay or not? What sealer do you need? And if you brush it on before baking so you need a sealer after?
Resin mica may not have an in built binder, so may not be as effective. I always apply before baking and seal with Fimo gloss.
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns thanks for the info 👍
Awesome. Thanks!
What about on clear sculpey clay
you can mix it in with sculpey clear but i guess it would depend on the colour underneath
can you use the mica powder straight over the top of acrylic?
I just bought some powder for my clay, does it have to be the same color powder on top of same color clay?
no - different colour mica reacts to different colour clays
Do you prefer black clay over white and if so why?
That's a good question. I like the effect that mica powders has on black clay. It is much bolder than when used on white or other colours.
@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns thank you so much! I am just beginning my journey with clay. Can you suggest a great clay, a good clay, and a better clay, one over the other?
@@terryalexander86 I can only tell you my preference and that is for Fimo, with Sculpey a close second (no Sculpey III, which I find brittle when baked). Purely because Fimo is more readily available in my area, so that's what I am used to.
How can you tell if the mica has a binder
Branded ones, such as Perfect Pearls have it on the packaging. If you are buying non branded like on ebay, it usually says in the description.
