On this trip, I head off on my first solo camping trip in the Chilcotin, a region of British Columbia I recently moved to.
I started my trip with a short hike into the back country. I ended up choosing to pitch my camp on a cliff face over looking a large muskeg with a great view of the local mountains. Throughout the trip, I got some much needed practice in on my basic wilderness skills since it had been such a long time since my last bush trip. I set up a stake-less tarp shelter, made a fire with some local materials, did some camp cooking with some of last fall's Canadian Goose legs, and a lot more - but I most importantly spent the time relaxing in the camp, and enjoying the new views of the northern Chilcotin.
Sorry for the wind in the middle of the video! I am working on getting equipment to minimize it.
Enjoy the silent adventure!

Enjoy the new video! Don't forget to drop a like and share if you enjoyed, and leave some feedback on what you liked and disliked! It's greatly appreciated!
Great vid! Your content is AMAZING ♥️
One thing I would personally love is if you talked. Would be like sharing the experience with a mate. I know others like the silent styles, but that's my two cents (esp during the insolation covid craze).
You are nice, I think that it difficult because temperature is cold like this, but you do very very well in making this video, thanks for sharing for me and other people.
Wow i have to say that was a beautiful adventure camping in the wilderness and i know that had to be really a great adventure for you also and keep cool and peace friend.
Great video! This is my first view of your channel. I subscribed. That was really interesting how you set up your tarp. Rock anchors with toggles and the 2 sticks. I’ve been tarp camping a long time and I’ve only seen the use of rock anchors like that a couple of times. Usually where you can’t drive a stake. Great job. Thank you. I’ll be back for more.
This is the best solo campers channel I’ve seen. Spectacular editing. Love the gear too!
I find myself so alone these days and trapped. This is the freedom I need for my soul.
My friends are all dead and gone and I can still walk and get about really well. I know that being alone isn't lonely and that being alone in the wilderness is the least lonely thing/place I've ever been.
Thank you for letting us be a part of it.
no music and no talking=ASMR - perfect
😀
no music and no Talking = Perfect
Enjoyed the campout. Other than the wind/breezes that are frequent for open areas, that looked like a great place to camp and view the surrounding area.
I'm glad you enjoyed! I don't think I'd camp there again due to the wind, especially now with how dry it is out already. It was nice to have that view though. Thanks for watching! :)
That's how you make cowboy coffee... after boiling, pour a little cold water on top and the grounds will settle to the bottom for a clean pour. Looked like a great overnight. Peace from Arizona.
I flat-out refuse to drink coffee any other way. It always too acidic and sometimes borderline gross, but when it's boiled, might as well be drinking black gold haha. I do the cold water trick to settle the grounds - just didn't bother to show it, but thanks for spreading the knowledge! It's surprising how much people don't know that trick. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed the vídeo, thank you Nicholas!! 🏞🌲🏕
I'm glade to see you back, Health and happy enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Stay well my friend.
I'm glad to be back! It's been too long
😀
This is my favorite outdoor channel. Very well filmed and no BS.
Meng Yang I’m glad you enjoy my videos!!
😀
What an amazing area. Great cinematography. Thanks for taking us along on your trip!
Glad you enjoyed it! Can't wait to get out and film some more
Nothing to dislike. What an awesome setting you picked. Living the dream, as many of us would like. Enjoy
😀
Awesome, awesome, AWESOME, VIDEO! THANK YOU FOR TAKING ME ALONG!!!
No obtuse verbiage, not chitter chatter, just vibes...Love from 🇯🇲
I’ve always enjoyed your videos. Glad too see you’re back. You live in some beautiful surroundings
Worth waiting for. Your a lucky man, beautiful country.
*good ten minute hike*
It was actually less than that. I kept this trip close to the road since it was my first in months and my first in the area. That's why I said "backcountry" and not "wilderness" 😆
YES!!!!! I missed you brother! Hope things are well with you and yours! Peace.
Been waiting for another one of your vids. Good trip. Thanks for putting this one up.
That is some fine looking country. Excellent camp. Thanks for the video.
I loved the peace and quiet of this outstanding video. Thanks for sharing...
no voice, no music 👍
Hey mate, just stumbled on your video... nicely done. First one I have seen. Where I come in Queensland, Australia i would have 101 creepy crawlings with me, if I slept like that. Very jealous of your backyard mate. And maybe just spend a couple minutes at the end of the video just going through your ups and downs of the trip.
Hey! Welcome to the channel and sorry for getting back to you so late. I wouldn't be able to stand all the bugs down there haha! Unfortunately I am not much of a talker, so trying to talk to a camera is damn near impossible for me. Sometimes I wish I could though!
One of the best !! What a view 👍
Thanks for sharing.nice video.great adventure.👍👍👍
Good to see you back. Totally enjoy your simple skilfull videos. Happy return.👍👍👌👌😃😃
Thank you -- glad to see this new video. Beautiful quality as always!
You're welcome! More to come 👊👊
Cowboy coffee is the best!
Agreed!
I liked the Sound of the Wind. It is just the original Nature.
OMG, this was one of your best videos. I was watching it on my 65 inch 4K TV. It was like I was there with you. Great to see you again. Don’t seem like we get enough Nicholas videos. Thanks much!
I'm really happy to hear that! I spent the last few months really focusing on how I film and edit, and getting rid of what's unnecessary with the hopes of making the videos more engaging. The new camera helps too I'm sure haha! Thanks for watching! I plan to do a lot more filming now that I've moved :)
At first I thought it was Ryan Renolds but then I thought no way....
Great video !
i watch this video no skip, good videos
Awesomeness! Thank you for this amazing video! Jealous 🙂
As always, enjoyable to watch. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful scenery and great video. I thank you sir
A beautiful part of the world to relax in. Like the simplicity of your camp. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Good show, simple and entertaining I enjoyed it!
Very beautiful country and nice videography. Thanks for sharing.
Glad for another one of your videos. Been going back and rewatching some of your older ones. I really look forward to them.
Hope you and your family are doing well during all this craziness. Take care.
Thanks for watching! There are more to come. You and your family take care as well.
I doubt you're still watching comments to this video, but just in case! Here goes...
What were those chunky, rock looking things you used to start your fire with on the 2nd day, morning? You melted snow and made coffee with the fire. I didn't recognize what you pulled out of that tin. Then you just layed two strike anywhere matches on the "chunks".
I will echo everyone's comments, your videos are great quality and thanks for the silence. I'm sure you have wonderful things to say and talk about. But I am truly so very tired of people explaining that I need to like and comment...and please subscribe...yada yada yada. EVERY SINGLE VIDEO!!!!!
You are a breath of fresh air. Thanks
Those were chunks of pine/spruce pitch, which I laid the match on top of. The matches wick the pitch up essentially making a candle prolonging the flame. It's one of my favourite fire-starting tricks here, since we don't have any birch bark. Glad to hear you enjoyed my videos, make sure to check out the newer ones - they're a lot better!
Çok güzel bir video olmuş elinize sağlık iyi çalışmalar. Devamını bekliyoruz
Wind didn't bother me one bit. Great location. Great video. Only thing I'd add, (if it was me of course) is a fishing spot! Either way this was a nice trip. Lack of chatter is golden. Thank you!
I have been in that country. Really enjoy your vids. Thank you. 😉🇨🇦
Fantastic. I'm planning to do one, solo camping, next month!!!
Excelente momento de Bushcraft. Sonido natural y ser acampada. Increíble.
Abrazo de Bushcraft desde Argentina ✌🏿🇦🇷✌🏿
I was thinking about watching a video if yours just the other day. It’s been a while or I haven’t gotten a notice from RUclips lately. Good to see you out and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Thanks for sharing the video and look forward to the next one already. ATB
Good timing! Thanks for watching and staying tuned :)
If course. Always very relaxing to watch. And the Mountain View’s are amazing.

Great video.
Good to see you're posting again. BC huh? What a beautiful area. Can't wait to see more. Stay safe & stay well...
I’ll have more to post in the future. I was from BC originally, I just moved much farther north than where I was 👍
Great video. Love the shelter. Some great ideas in this video I’m going to use this summer in Shield country Ontario. Thanks
Thanks! Good luck!
So good to see you again! Hope your following increases. Ohhrrr... that lamp was class! Hope to see you soon 🌻👍🇭🇲
cannot wait too come up there for hunting season terrain looks amazing
I know hey? This doesn't even show a fraction of the country either. The mountain in the background is one of the more underwhelming ones compared to what surrounds it. We gotta get our draws in soon
Nice video. Finally someone who knows how to make coffee.
I refuse to drink it any other way 😆
😀
Longtime nothing see from you, Partner! Glad to see new bushcraft stuff. As always beautiful scenes.
Thanks for watching! There is more to come!
I really like this kind off video

Welcome to the channel! Thank you, that means a lot 👊 More videos coming soon!
Great to see you back and posting again. Your silent adventures are beautifully filmed and really focus on the amazing landscape. The silence just adds to the whole experience. Congratulations and best wishes.
Thank you!!
😀
yo - nick . another really neat vid . sure like that saw, all connected parts, etc. thanks .
Thanks! I am a fan of it. Just make sure that if you get one you keep on-top of your blade. I didn't replace mine for ages, and although the blade it had was still fine, the saw frame just wasn't holding it taut enough anymore :)
Great sharing
Thank you
greetings bushcraft from indonesia
Relaxing & sure ...
Great night out Nicholas.
Nate
First of your video's that I have seen. Really enjoyed it! Beautiful country! Wow! A couple things---finally, someone makes cowboy coffee the "proper" way, and, I believe you are carrying a Marlin 1895, and from the glimpse of your slide-cartridge holder, I'm betting 45-70? Sweet!!! A friend here still hunts Elk with one. Hell, the coffee and the Marlin alone won me over!!! 👍 Subscribed from Colorado. Be well! Roger
Welcome to the channel! My advice would be to stick to the recent videos. The old ones are brutal to watch. You're spot on with the rifle and calibre! Thanks for commenting! Hope to see more from you in the future 👍👍
A different angle on bushcraft videos. It's pretty good. Authentic. Thank you for your effort and sharing with us friend. Keep it up and stay safe!
A real Chilcotin Buckaroo.
Working on it haha
Very nice.
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Welcome after a long break. :-) You are finally here. I'm watching you on Instagram. Many photos from today's movie. Good to see you again. Best regards and good health. A beautiful movie made again. I even took out my 1895 ABL 45-75 to see if it not rusted. :-)
Thanks! I was waiting to move before I made another video, sorry for the delay. Thanks for watching! I always look forward to your comments
One of the most impressive moments was when you built the fire with a match instead of some other method, i like to use a match or a lighter as well👍🏻
😀
OMG!! so peaceful.. just watching this helped me to de-stress just a wee tiny bit. Its been to long I need to get back out there and connect. I'd have to change a few things up now that I suffer from herniated and torn disks in my back, adds a good bit more of a challenge.
I'm glad my video helped you out a bit. Sorry to hear about your back! Good on you for not letting it stop you from doing what you love though!!
Thanks for sharing! Weather looked good, and you were clearly enjoying yourself.
Be well and take good care from here in the Allegheny National Forest in Northwestern Pennsylvania.
Thanks, you too!
Subscribed! Love what you do with the camera focus.
Thanks for subscribing! Thank you :)
Did many like those trips when I lived in Anahim Lake and up in the Rainbows and east of Anahim
😀
What beautiful scenery !! Great looking camp 2 👍🏼
Good looking Bowie ....
Definitely not a shelf sitter 😂😀👍🏼.
What scene 2 wake up 2 !!!!!! Not 2 mention quiet !!
Thanks! The knife was a custom piece I designed and had built by Mike Jones Knife & Tool. Check him out!
Awsome👍🏻
Nice camera work, well-done. Throwback with the candle lantern, cool. I still have mine. Hey, this place you camped had great resources - dry wood and fire ring rocks.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed
Wonderful video. I’ve subscribed. Thank you! 👍🏻
Thanks for the sub!
Great to see you again Nicholas. Hope you're keeping well brother!!
Hey!! Things are going pretty great now after the move! Hope you're doing well too 👊👍

Great vid Nick! I especially liked the dialogue... Are you wearing a new piece of jewelry on your left hand? I also love the Chilcotin!!!
Thanks! I plead the 5th 😆
Thanks for sharing!I thought maybe u had givin up on making anymore videos! I hadn't seen any for quite sometime!🤔
Not at all! I just had too much going on to be able to focus on filming. Thanks for watching!
hi from New Zealand we have similar worlderness to your area we were taught at skool young age about camping and survival. they dont teach that now. great video have sunscribed
goodjob
Just finished watching this for the second time. I developed quite a curiosity about the "Chilcotin" while reading "Grass Beyond The Mountains". As I watched this earlier this morning, I couldn't help but wonder if you cut the same tracks as "Panhandle", "Hobson", and the rest of the crew. Take it easy Cowboy. Be safe. Roger
I often wonder the exact same thing while out roaming around in the bush. I know I have cut their trail without a doubt while actually in Anahim, since nothing has really changed since the 30's, but I'm not sure about the bush. I'm always towards the west, just out of preference, and Rich and Pan had their eyes set towards the north east. That muskeg/creek seen in this video actually drains directly into Nimpo Lake, which is an interesting fact. It's likely that cayuse was up and down the same muskeg grazing the slough-grass back in the day. You take it easy as well! :)
Loved the trick of holding the saw with your legs and moving the wood. Holding down the tarp, maybe just tie it to to the rocks with cordage and no sticks, or prop the rocks over and in front of the stick, instead of over and behind... it would put more resistance on the stick I think.
Good idea! That'd be a much more efficient way of doing it
God stay there
GREAT TRIP WHEN DO WE GO AGAIN THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Watcher Soon hopefully. I’m just waiting on a few piece of gear to arrive, and in the meantime continuing to produce content for my Instagram, @wituiksrwl 👍👍
He’s got that Red Rider bee bee gun!
