A heavy-weight, AWD, £40k A35, A sensible Skoda Octavia estate and two VW GTIs are all more convincing hot-hatches than a 308 GTi and Megane RS? ............. Ok then. LOL!
I honestly don't think that the Megane RS shouldn't be in a top 10 hot hatch comparison considering how disappointing it is performance-wise; but in the context that that this top has a fucking up! and a big-ass estate car, yes, the Megane RS should absolutely be here and so should the 308GTI or Yaris GRMN. But this is carwow and if it ain't German it must be shit right?
Yes agreed, was thinking the same. Maybe he is comparing the A35 to the 6 speed manual Golf R which is slower. But the A35 is a 7 speed auto DCT only so should be compared to the Golf R DSG making the Golf R faster, as you say.
My list: 10- ford fiesta ST 9- Renault megane RS 8- Hyundai i30 N 7- Peugeot 308 GTI 6- Seat Leon Cupra R 5- Volkswagen Golf R 4- Ford Focus RS 3- Audi RS3 2- Meredes Benz A45 AMG 1- Honda Civic Type R

My overall assessment of this list is that it was made to try and cover different budgets, so there was always going to be cars that missed out. Many people cannot afford a Golf R or A35 hence the inclusion of the Swift and Up. And because the Golf Gti, Megane RS, i30N and Leon Cupra are in a similar bracket only one of them was maybe considered.
