    Bought one to be built at Hamvention 2023. Had a nice chat with the folks there, part of it in Norwegian crossing into Swedish. Really looking forward to its eventual arrival. And if they ever come up with one for the sensible POTA/SOTA bands (40, 30, 20, 17 & 15), that’ll be in the eventual arrival bag too. So we can compare notes next year ;-). Nice to meet you at Dayton/Xenia. Hope to see you at Begali next time too! 73 de W8IJN

    Rumor has it that there's a high band edition of this radio in the works (as in - I talked to the guy doing it at the QRP Labs booth in Dayton). I'll be first on the list for that one. These are fantastic radios, but the whole point of these radios is downsizing your kit. That's a lot easier to do on 10M than 80!

      Nice to hear. Then I’ll be next on the list for a high bands QMX. When most of these new QRP SOTA style rigs came out it was in a solar cycle slump but now the higher bands for SOTA have a lot more promise. Plus, higher bands have easier to deploy antennas on a peak.

    I have build 5 QDX's of various revisions and several QCX Mini's. The QMX looks to be the highest component density of the all hands down. If you are a beginner kit builder, this shouldn't be your first kit. $50 is a small price to pay to get a built working one. It's 8-10hrs of time to put one together.
    I will definitely get one down the road and if history is any guide, the main board will go thru one or more revisions. To be fair, my orginal REV 1 QDX works just as good as the latest revision built.

    • @av3510
      @av3510 Год назад

      @tookthe5th182 I was thinking of building either a QCX+ or the QCX Mini as my "first" transceiver build. I've build a couple of QRP labs antennas and the 4States simple CW practice oscillator without any problems.
      What do you think of either of the QCXs as a first transceiver build for someone with a little soldering experience? I was looking at some of the crystal kits (like the Cricket or the Rockmite), but it might be cool to have a full band to work with rather than just a single frequency.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  Год назад

      @tookthe5th182 is right, this looks dense and therefore a little more difficult. The QDX comes in a monoband kit or a 4 band kit and is a lot easier than the QCX Mini. the QCX+ should be pretty good and if I recall, its a larger kit.

    • @jonandrews6839
      @jonandrews6839 Год назад

      Talked to Hans at Dayton. Looking at the kit, # components and the size of some of the toroids I asked how long to build one. Hans told me HE could build one in 2hrs, that means Joe Public is probably 2x that, or more..... Ponied up for the extra $50 for a fully assembled one. Leadtime 2-3w apparently.

      I just built one and it is great to set the time dead nutz on my Mini's for running WSPR. Get the display kit or the clock kit to go along with it. On my clock kit, I swapped the display out for a 4 line instead of the 2 line that it comes with and there is a wealth of info you can display including custom text. Takes a bit getting your head wrapped around the 2 button interface to customize what is displayed. Lets just say it is different but works.
