In this episode we finally get to install our slide out balcony (without legs)!!!
Throughout the build we have probably modified it five or six times to make it fit and work more robustly. When we installed it, we had to do a few minor modifications again like sanding down the edges so it wouldn’t touch the steel channel (where it is sliding in) anymore. Also, we had to mount the motor that is running the ball screw on a bit of an angle so it wouldn’t scrape along the top of the deck. Other than that, we are super happy that we can finally enjoy what took us so long to build and engineer. We are still waiting on the limit switches and relays, and we will properly wire it all up once that has arrived.
We also started to insulate the floor and put ply sheets on top. Cutting them to the right size with all the cut outs was like creating a jig saw puzzle and took ages! We are using 7mm ply just to keep the earth wool packed down onto the steel sheet on the floor. Under the kitchen we are using 12mm ply as we will use the extra space from our floor to the subfloor for storage and to gain extra space for the water tank. We had to cut out where all the bolt heads are welded on.
Patrick was working on the stairs including building the tread frames and welding up the slide out frame. The stairs are ready for bench testing which will be in next week’s episode so stay tuned!

No mean feat getting that cantilevered balcony fitted. An engineering masterpiece for sure. You should be proud of that - making use of dead space and increasing your floor plan. It all seems to be, finally, reaching the end stretch. Hope your insulation woes work out - if not from Bunnings - then maybe Baby Cow and friends can contribute!!???

13:12 nice orange pipe bender Patrick. It almost look like a mallet and it seems to require quite a bit of manual work and elbow grease 🤣

    Hi,
I recommend you add a waterproof membrane between the insulation and floor/ walls/ ceiling linings to prevent condensation issues.
    Stephen.
