Stop-Motion Transformation of Toyworld TW-F09 Freedom Leader. Fantastic depiction of Optimus from the Bumblebee Movie. Live demonstration on Wednesday. There are a number of tricky bits and warnings I’ll need to tell you about. I wish they had done something better with his feet. It’s funny, his official name (on the box and instructions) is “Tactics Waistcoat”. I think they made the right decision to market him as “Freedom Leader” instead.

Viewing Note:
If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using the Chrome plugin called "Frame by Frame for RUclips". It turns your , and . keyboard keys into single-frame movement keys. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.

Michael Bay just lacks creativity. He thinks making insect like transformers are more realistic.😂
I reckon it's because when the first movie came out, most of the people who had grown up on the original show were still in their mid to late twenties and not old enough to be running production (directors, head artists, etc). The senior creative staff wanted to capitalise on the Transformers name but do their own vaguely related thing. By the time Bumblebee came out, people who had grown up on the original programme were in their 30s and 40s, old enough to be in senior positions, and who wanted to actually make a Transformers movie.
@@astrotrain21 It's interesting idea, but I disagree. Transformers animated came out around the same time, and it's character designs clearly took inspiration from the source material. TF Prime came out a few years later, and although the designs have a more Bay look to them, classic inspiration in coloration and personality. Then there's the fact that certain Bay design appear to be based off g1 designs, just the wrong ones. Bumblebee appears to be based off of Prowl, Mirage/Dino, off of Sideswipe, and Ironhide, off of Trailbreaker.

Firstly, I thank you once again for making a transformation video in light of the printed instructions being garbage. Secondly, I detest that you made it look so easy in this. I followed along, and this will definitely be a figure I transform once and never again. Largely because the robot mode is absolutely gorgeous, but also because the transformation is a finger cramping nightmare.

Can’t agree more about the transformation. I feel like the manufacturer could have done a better transformation design (just look at mm01’ s transformation, which is far superior and simpler). Steve Jobs was right. Complexity is easy. Simplicity is hard.
After seeing this, and taking the figure's size into account, I'd say Toyworld's goal is to make transforming versions of the Sideshow Collectables line, and this figure looks like an impressive start. Even with the clearance issues, the transformation is remarkably clean, and the conversion is quite impressive, especially since Bumblebee OP has more human proportions than most designs.
Solid analysis.
(Whistles) This toy's so intricate, when you play the transformation super-fast, it looks very much like something out of the live-action movies, because you've got parts flying all over the place.
It's been a year since this was uploaded yet for some reason I still refuse to believe this is an actual Transformer. This engineering ascends black magic.
It's complicated, but it has a number of clearance issues and it's a bit fragile.
Man, the level of paint and engineering, and the amount of die cast on this thing.
Wow, never realized that the silver panels with the truck lights form the landscape of his back. Clever and efficient use of parts to form complex mechanical details

Are the smokestacks supposed to be removed? Or was that just a clearance issue for you?
You can totally not remove them, but they would just get jostled off anyway. They made them that way so the "earth" version and the "cybertron" version could be switched out. If it had been a real hinge, it could fairly easily be worked around - they wouldn't get in the way. But they fall off very easily so the best method is to remove them. I try to get the best method, no matter what.

Oh I've been waiting on this one. I want it so bad. My ONLY gripe is that the vehicle mode seems confused. The front end is very earth like, bytut the rear looks cybertronian. But the robot mode is GORGEOUS

Well, there are accessories to make him look like his cybertronian version (even if it’s almost entirely for the robot mode)

Brilliant engineering for a brilliant design! (Those feet are kinda whack, though.)
They really gave up when it came to the feet. The Toy Lab one looks like it will be even better.

I don't care for the stomach, the grill is angled inward and it makes it look like someone broke the model knowing what the real thing looks like. and those upper thighs are thicker than his arms. just seems like they half assed it.

I was pesimistic at first because so many things folded, however, I'm impressed by the final form.
This is the type of video where you must play at max speed. You’ll enjoy the transformation sequence more like in the cartoons.

This Optimus prime figure it’s amazing but man The instrumental he picked with his stat motion is absolutely phenomenalI mean as an artist this instrumental is very inspiring but I definitely want to get this Optimus prime action figure very bumblebee movie accurate
Ethan Meixsell is awesome. I use the instrumentals he made for open use by RUclips in the RUclips library. "Pride Before the Fall" is a great instrumental and happens to be the longest one so ends up on a lot of my videos that are particularly long.

Every reviewer I've seen that attempts to transform this figure just gets it all kinds of wrong! That's why I prefer to watch this video of the transformation instead of other reviewers' way of doing it
If you don't extract the head first (or last going back to truck) you don't have a good way to manipulate the arms into position.

Man I was so excited about this one and was so sad to find that both release packages include way too many accessories. They should have just come in with the figure and the rifle and hubcaps instead of including like 100 accessories at a 200+ price point. There's already the pricier package with the stand so I don't know why the regular release came with so many weapons and storage boxes.
Tbh i dont much mind. More godly accessories for a godly figure. Also unique toys dragoon came with the 3 essentials and is still close to 200 so i dont see the problem.

To be fair, MP44 is designed better with no clearance issues. Also MP44 is more complex: 88 steps versus 63 for this one.

It's actually very stable.
I am always happy to be wrong in doomish predictions about toys. I just know that I have a few figures where the sheer amount of transformation steps means there's not a lot of solid structure holding it together. Especially larger figures.
@@AlexReynard There aren't actually all that many steps.
From here, it looks on par with MP44 or FansToys Spoiler.
My editing process is pretty consistent and is mostly affected by the total number of steps. This video is 4:31 long and MP-44 is 6:30 long.

How do you get the shots when the view is panning up, down, across, etc. Multiple cameras or tripods?
I have a tripod with a Manfrotto geared tripod head that allows me to make very small and precise pitch and yaw movements (it does roll also, but I never touch that knob). The tripod itself has the usual elevation control that I use to change the height of the camera. I glued a yardstick to the floor that helps me keep the tripod straight so I can dolly it closer and further as needed - also in fairly precise increments. And of course the figure is on a turntable (black marble) that I put an adhesive centimeter tape around the edge so I can turn it in precise and predictable amounts.

They detach easily and would just fall off anyway. I could have left them on but it would be a bit of a lie and I wanted to switch to the Cybertronian versions for robot mode anyway.

It does look nice. I didn't like the weathering, so I went with TE. I only have so much money and only have so many weeks in the year.
I just can’t seem to get the sides of truck to fit in (2:52) I tried every thing but it seems like the bracket were the tab fits in just bends with it. How did you do it?
They are tricky. The reason for the shown order is to get the other panels to help line things up better. The red U-shaped bracket that the tab goes into on mine eventually gave up and broke, so be cautious.

How the Hell can you remember all those steps?
I'm particularly good at spatial relations. I write down the steps occasionally, but I've found I don't need to follow them on the day of the shoot, so the purpose of writing it down seems to be to concentrate my thoughts rather than serve as a guide later. That's truly amazing, I had an optimus prime( movie model) years ago. I think I successfully transformed it from truck to man and that was it lol .I let my son play with it one time and it was over.🤣😂 Live and learn.

The legs could have more work. They just bend backward. Don't transform at all that the robot legs form still apparent and doesn't look like a normal truck. Kinda lazy...
It's like they got tuckered out after tackling the torso/cab bit.
