In this tutorial, I show you how to etch a custom logo of your choosing onto your knives using a battery charger and some salt water.
Ernie's Blue Lightning Stencils can be bought from his website here: erniesknives.com/knifemaker_st... - Хобби
So living in N. Ireland it impossible to get these stencils. But I contacted your supplier and within a very short time they where in my mail box. Thanks for that. I haven't had the courage to use them yet but will soon. To be fair to you, this is the most most helpful video I have seen yet. I stamp most of my knives but have some that I made before I got stamps. So my buddy wants 1 of my old knives but with a logo. So I have to etch the logo. Thanks for sharing this, very helpful to me.
I just started making knives and am learning a lot from your videos. Thank you
Thank you for posting. Very informative. I've learnt a great deal. Stunning logo and the silver looks classy.
Amazing tutorial!!! Can't wait to order stencils and give this a try! Thanks!
Thanks for the video, your knife and logo looks fantastic. I am just getting into knife making and really appreciate this tutorial
thanks for this. love the finish and logo. i'm inspired mate. i want to be getting my mark on knives from day 1... i'm half way through making my 1st knife!!!!
That's a great idea. Thanks for the tip...Awesome...Take care...Rod (the silver looks great)
Thanks for putting together the list of supplies, info etc. That alone is worth a like.
Great job looks awesome very impressed
Good looking knife, and you’ve given me what I need to start etching! Thanks, and I enjoyed the video!
That logo is bad ass bro. Just got in to knife making. I am really considering getting a stencil made. Just have to come up with a design. Thanks for your videos. They are very helpful!!!
+Jason C awesome man! make sure its the one you really want! thanks for watching:)

That looks badass man. Nice and very helpful video
Very nice video, and that seems like a nice deep etch too!
Great explanation of the process.
Great video good instruction beautiful work
Outstanding job...beautiful.
Bo Max thank you very much!
Awesome knife and excellent logo! I would have made the scales out of G-10, but that's just me. Thanks for the video!
Great video thanks for sharing your knowledge dude!!!

+EvilPanda1988 thank you!
thanks for all your vids. took your advice and ordered stencils from ernie. very helpful. highly recommend him
it looks as good as some engraving vids.. thank you for sharing
Thank you for leaving links to all the equipment and and things you use! As a new knife maker I'm always trying to find the best places for steel and supplies. Great vids buddy!!
No problem James! Happy to help! If you have any questions please feel free to ask!!!
@@WhiteBoneKnives thank you trust me I'll take you up on that offer lol. I'm loving it but even the things people think look easy are tough lol
I've got a personalizer plus and it doesn't etch as deep as that, thanks for the tip!
I agree the silver is awesome bud love it. Great job.
Litefoot Thank you!!! :D
Awesome!! Thank you sooo much for this!!
You are very welcome!!
Nice job..I really like the deep etch.
thanks!
Fantastic video mate!
outstanding job.!!!!!
Great video man! I had no idea it was this simple
Thanks for watching!
Great job, great tutorial. You could switch out your DC for AC after the deep etch and clean up then put black inside at the bottom, now that'd be badass! Looks great already, I'm just more into the raw combat, half oxide a few scratches and an 80 grit finished grind in some differentially heat treated D2 with black denim saw tooth micarta... ;)
Thanks for your help
Great video, beautiful blade man. I'm just getting into knife crafting and have just worked out a logo for myself, can i use a car battery to etch? Also I heard mixing salt and vinegar works well. Would you recommend? Also, totally agree that the silver etch looks great (better imo) Keep up the good work mate!
Many people who do this for a living will have an adjustable power supply and use vinyl stencils. They also use a special electrolyte which is more conductive and not as corrosive as sodium chloride (often copper nitrate solution).
Looks really great.
thanks!
Great lesson! I like the silver too. Congratulations on a beautiful knife…what is your handle material? Thanks again for your videos.
Cool, thanks for sharing
Great video, thanl you!
I'd also like to give some advice to you. Your lamp reflects a lot on the table, you can change this real quick and easily by just putting some sandwich paper or pan liner over it secured with a rubberband or tape.
Again: Great video!
Lennart Lennart thank you! I've actually switched shops since then😁 much better lighting now. I appreciate your comment and advise!
you are a great person
Very nice work.
***** Thank you!
Excellent job!
Walter Kiel thank you!!! :D
Love this video.
Thank you!
Great info, and I really appreciate all of your videos. You have definitely helped me out a lot. I will say however that I have never had a worse customer service experience in my life than when I tried working with Ernie... We went back and forth a few times just trying to get a design together before he told me he was unwilling to help me (even just a simple line of text, he flat out refused to provide)... I even called him to find out if there was a miscommunication or if I had come off wrong in the email. He was rude, and I have figured out how to do this without him getting a penny from me.
Thanks again for your videos brother, God bless you too!
this was good ..very good "diy detail"
Awesome work! Beautiful makers mark! I like the silver look also. If you want it black, after you have etched it, switch the positive and negative cables and etch again and it will blacken it, it works for my stencil etchings.... Have a good one!!!
Thank you! I will definitely have to try that out. The only reason I haven't is because someone told me not to. Never knew why though, but I will find out:D Btw I checked out your channel and your knives look great! keep up the good work!
Tried out the blackening but I think I still like the silver better. I'm gonna stay with it :D Thanks for the info though! good to know.
You could probably use a small amount of ferric chloride on it to darken it too.
Mark Noble
How did you make the small notches near the spine of the blade?
Very nice etch.
Great video.
Could you do this with a car battery and jumper cables and the homemade contact bit?
Well done! Thanks. :)
What gave your etch that nice texture?
man your knives look good
I like the silver as well.
Love this channel
ww2 colorizer thanks man! Great to have you here!
Thank You for sharing, great etch, love the depth, the silver shows up well PEACE :-)
thanks man! :D
I like the look of that small knife, (without the filing of the spine) what would you charge to make me a knife like that with a right hand leather sheath PEACE :-)
I actually don't do leather right now. only kydex at the moment. But I'm charging $120.00 with an extra $10.00 for the burl wood. Just let me know if you would like to order! My number is on my website if you would like to give me a call!
will this method work on all steels, like 440c and damascus?
that really cam out great
To be honest I was sceptical about the result but it turned out just great.. Nice and precise job.. Thank you
Marxus Aurelius thanks so much for watching!
great work
thanks!
I want to do this on a brass ring, will it work?
Well done.
what type paper to use for image transfer and where to buy it.
I'd like to do this on a Gerber knife I got a while back, but the blade has a black finish on it. Would this method still work, or does the finish block the flow of electricity?
wat grit is that belt on your sanding machine
Could you not put silver foil inbetween the blade and clip? To save any scratches or will that affect the connection?
Good vid.
Check out your local sign/banner shop. They can cut out adhesive vinyl stencils for you. It shouldn't cost more than $30 for 11x17 sheet full of 1/2" logos....These stencils he and a lot of others are using seem funky.
Nice job on that
clean the logo material with ultrasonic?
where did you get your stencil
Thanks for the helpful video! What kind of sander is that and how much was it? I am looking for a better sander/grinder for my knife making. Any info helps!
This is a Kmg belt grinder from beaumont metal works! go check them out!
Great video. I like your etching tool handle idea, I need to try something like that. Awesome logo!
Thanks man it took about 60 different drawings and 6 hours to come up with but I believe it was worth it:D Thanks for watching!
Great logo!
What if you use a magnet after you wipe it off would that help?
Where did you get your etching machine?
You definitely have an incredible talent , I just wish you did leather sheath work. I'm not a fan of Kydex and I would rather pay more for leather any day.
Keep up the work my friend. I subbed and liked , I will check back at a later date when you do leather. I'm sure you would be talented with leather as well.
Peace
WELL DONE
Also, would you recommend etching before or after heat treat?
Definitely after one would say
What was the electric current you used?
Who made your stencil I wanna contact him and have him make me some. What did he charge you for your Mark.
Personally I appreciate you taking your time. It's like people are in too much of a hurry to watch a whole video or too lazy to fast forward. Good work.
Hi, have you experimented with salt in white vinegar (spirit vinegar, acetic acid) rather then salt in plain water? The process is much quicker, about half the time, so your templates probably won't suffer as much damage and will probably last longer. The etching depth using white vinegar is quite deep very quickly and the profile remains sharp.
Just a thought for more research. All the best, Gordon.
awesome!
Nice!
Where can you buy stencils to do this?
where did you aquire the stencles?
Will you post a link to where you got you logos from please thank you and great video
In description at the bottom!😊
Hey bro I always love watching your videos and wanted to begin knife making as a hobby, can you please give me an idea of what tools I should splurge on and what I can get away with not buying?any advice is greatly appreciated and good luck on your future projects!!👍
Thank you very much! Your grinder will be number 1! Also need a drill press. Everything else is really just a bonus. Grinders these days are very versatile!
I also have a lot of tools I use in the description of nearly all my tutorial videos😁👊
Very nice work. I think the most important takeaway is, after dipping into salt water, dab it on a napkin, so that excess liquid won't spill outside the logo. I have seen people doing similar things, but with too much liquid; which spoils the logo, because it spreads outside the edges of the logo.
Thanks for the video.
cultclassic999 Thank you! yeah if it can be avoided, take the step to do it!
