The term "hocus pocus" was originally a derogatory term used by Protestants by making a parody out of the words "Hoc et corpus" included in Catholic rites at a time when the two just wanted to slay each other with extreme prejudice. BTW real witches never do sell our souls to the debbil lol
@@mistymeasles2527 Really? No I am afraid it's you who dwells in the darkness of ignorance. That being said, there are really two types of witchcraft, opposed to each other. One is the original Pagan Craft of the Wise, or Pagan witchcraft, which does not recognise the devil, nor believes in it's power over people. We worship a Goddess and God of Nature, who dwells within and without of us and all beings. Then there is Satanic witchcraft, which is an invention of the medieval Church. This false type of witchcraft was grafted onto the original, so as to confuse people and turn them away from Paganism. Unfortuinately, modern Satanists appropriate certain Pagan deities and alter their nature and characters so as to suit their agenda. This leads to much confusion amongst the unenlightened and fearful. Satanism is really the flip side of the coin of the Church, as they do actually glorify Satan... and as the founder of the Satanic Church, Anton LaVey once said, "The Church owes Satanism a big favour, as we keep them in business" Sorry to burst yon bobble.

With Jacquetta, Elizabeth, and their descendants it's also said that they're of the line of to goddess Melusine which is where it's said they get their power from. (Something that wasn't made up for the novels and TV show. Philippa Gregory just incorporated the family legend into her books.) Also, I think it's crazy amazing that these women are the progenitors of about 200 years of royalty. From Henry VIII until George I of the Hanovers took over every reigning monarch of England was descended from Elizabeth (and so also Jacquetta).
Why'd you stop at George 1st? George was the 6x great-grandson of Elizabeth Woodville. All English monarchs after Henry VIII are her direct descendants right on down to Charles III, William and George. (George was the grandson of James i's daughter Princess Elizabeth and therefore descended from Elizabeth Woodville through her granddaughter Margaret Tudor, Queen Consort of Scotland.
@@danaglabeman6919 That's cool! If they left the UK I didn't really follow anything about them, so I didn't know that. I know that George I came from the HRE, but that's it. I know nothing about his life before that or his family relations (parents and older). Thanks!!! The more you know!!! ======*
@@prairiepennyproductions Funny story: when deciding who the crown should go to after Anne, they passed over 41 more qualified candidates to get to George I because they were Catholic, including Marie Antoinette's great-grandfather. That means that, by 1760, if we're following strict primogeniture rules, Marie Antoinette (and all her siblings) technically had a better blood claim to the British throne than George III.

I appreciate seeing this! From my perspective the "persecution complex" fear is deep in the DNA-learning about what happened, how often.... the original "cancel" culture just went straight to canceling the subscription to life. I know i have had to fight that fear of being seen, because of how women in my family were seen. I am looking forward to learning more of my own cultural history as well.
Some say that a lot of women accused of evil crafts were actually very successful single business women or had inherited enough wealth to live well or even lived privately. An example of business women were women that had their own tea house o brewery o boutiques. Also because they were ahead of their time in intelligence/knowledge science.
I highly recommend the movie version of Richard III (1995- Staring Sir Ian Mckellen) Queen Elizabeth, wife of Edward IV was gloriously portrayed by Annette Bening, her brother by Robert Downey Jr, and her mother in law was none other than Dame Maggie Smith. Their performances stick with you. Even now, listening to the info from 19:06 to 26:40, her image appeared very clearly in my imagination.
I was quite intrigued, this was really interesting. If by any chance I have any type of “ magic “ in my bloodline, it’s more than likely from my mother’s side of the family. I was doing some research and found that it’s possible that I may have some lineage to the Great Wizard himself , Merlin . Lots of people swear that he’s a myth , .. he’s not. He was the last Druid to convert to Christianity. Thank you for this , Miss Lindsay ! I love the history of the Royals.
@@makeupboss3568 I haven't decided if it is a blessing or a curse before I watched this, so afterwards I don't feel conflicted... Just strangely out of sorts
I'm sorry but I can't take claims like that seriously. Modern historians can't even be totally sure that Merlin as an individual, actual man ever existed. And if he did there is no evidence that he could perform actual magic. It just seems silly to me, for someone to think they have inherited "magic" in some capacity.

Isn´t it interesting that men do the most heinous things and then turn around and blame a woman for witchcraft as if they are mindless puppets - yet at the same time all powerful. It seems this powerdynamic and happenings barely changed.
Sorry but women have absolutely done the same things. Power corrupts absolutely power corrupts absolutely. Not to mention women get the children in most cases now. You have to prove her completely unfit. Even if the father would make a mouth better parent. Women have the same rights as men. The same opportunity well in most countries there are some that are horrible. Sorry I just don’t see how things haven’t changed much. To me they have changed completely
@@holzlastname1976 They have indeed, but some women love to play the victim. They have no actual problems so they like to create drama to "prove" how oppressed they are.
Hey Lindsay, I really enjoy your videos and have learned so much from them - I have sooo many historical blind spots and it’s so fun to fill tiny bits of them in. I do have a question though. I really don’t mean to be rude or patronising, but I think it’s important. Have you personally done reading/research about Richard III? Your coverage of him always really throws me and makes it hard for me to watch your videos. They otherwise seem really reasonable and factual, but this is a particular area that is *not* a blind spot of mine and every time it’s touched upon, it shakes the trust I have in the research for these videos. I think it’s really important how you cover the stories of much-maligned historical women and give them a fair assessment without all the awful misogyny. It’s actually why I watch your channel! (And I’d specifically love to see a video on the women of the Wars of the Roses! So many incredibly strong people among them!) But I think that Richard deserves your re-assessment too. He was a physically disabled man who was, without any historical doubt, an effective and fair king, and before that, a really well respected man. He studied law, was fiercely loyal to his brother Edward and his wife Anne, politically savvy, good with money, an accomplished warrior, and a popular leader among the under classes, because he implemented surprisingly lenient laws for them against the wishes of his own wealthy court. He was even the last English monarch to die on the battlefield, which is so fascinating. There is nothing in the actual historical texts to indicate that he was scheming, ambitious, and bloodthirsty. There’s nothing to indicate he killed the princes. Like, genuinely nothing. We have no proof whatsoever that they even died as children. The idea that the priest who married Edward (and thus made his children illegitimate) was “conveniently” found for Richard’s benefit is also completely unsubstantiated and kind of deliberately misleading. The first time anyone ever questioned the whereabouts of the boys was actually not even from England. It was a piece of gossip from the French courts (of which the Tudors were allied to) and there’s no evidence it was ever believed at the time. The English public didn’t ever seem to have concerns about this arrangement. It was only the proliferation of propaganda AFTER the Tudors came to power that caused a significant swing in public opinion about Richard, which is, you know… how propaganda works. The Tudors were famously good at that. I don’t really know why we’d take them at their word that this one king, who was well-regarded by his court and the public, but reeaally inconvenient for the Tudor cause, was actually just like secretly evil and hated and despotic in such a comically villainous way. But there are no primary sources proving any of that? Including about the princes? If we don’t buy the Tudor line about Anne Boleyn being an evil temptress, why do we buy that their biggest political enemy, who had a much better claim to the throne than them, was an evil weirdo? I’m genuinely asking, I don’t understand why this is such a gaping hole in the historical literacy of so many people. The first thing Henry Tudor did as king was publicly display the disabled body of Richard III as a war trophy, and state that his crippling scoliosis, long hidden to avoid public ridicule, was “proof” that he was evil. He didn’t even mention the bit about the princes, because it simply was not considered believable at the time. But a visibly disabled man, to a medieval audience? That *was* evidence of evil. And it was still compelling when Shakespeare wrote his propaganda plays for the enjoyment of Henry Tudor’s descendants. And apparently it’s still compelling now? Because we don’t have evidence he was evil. We don’t have any evidence of literally any of the things people say about Richard III. But we do have his skeleton, with his visible disability. (It was dug up from under a parking lot, largely thanks to the campaigning of the Richard III Society, who have been championing this cause for over a hundred years.) And that disabled skeleton is good enough for a modern audience too, I guess. I’m also disabled, that’s why I originally gravitated towards Richard as a historical figure. His story makes me really really sad. I know it’s unlikely this will be read, but if it is, I hope it was somewhat enlightening for someone.
Elizabeth Woodville and her mother Jequetta deLuxemborg were really witches and what they did the people deserved. They’re curses stuck. I’m a proud descendant of them both and a witch as well. We’re not evil. We do more help than harm. Just treat us right and we’ll reciprocate.

I hear ghoulies, and ghosties, and wee legged beasties, and things that go bump in the night! The spooky season is upon us once again 💀👻🎃
Love your spooky season contributions!!
The term "hocus pocus" was originally a derogatory term used by Protestants by making a parody out of the words "Hoc et corpus" included in Catholic rites at a time when the two just wanted to slay each other with extreme prejudice.
BTW real witches never do sell our souls to the debbil lol
The Holy Bible speaks against witches, warlocks ect by being 1, you're of the devil and darkness
@@mistymeasles2527 What a horrible thing to say about someone.
I'm pretty sure the bible also suggests you aren't to judge others, so please just hush up with that salty nonsense.
Satanism is really the flip side of the coin of the Church, as they do actually glorify Satan... and as the founder of the Satanic Church, Anton LaVey once said, "The Church owes Satanism a big favour, as we keep them in business"
Sorry to burst yon bobble.
@@mistymeasles2527 my gosh, pls just stop this is the problem with many of us Christians like seriously can we just stay quiet. Not all people think the Bible, Christianity, or our God is the truth and they certainly dont wanna hear your judgement speaking like your Donald Trump. Preach on those willing and want to listen not to those who has no interest and your just distorting our purpose even further.
How crazy i was just looking for tour channel! and this video “34 seconds ago” is right there!!!!! thank you for all you do!!! ❤
At 17:40 I litteraly thought about Cersei and said "shame shame shame" and just after that Lindsay talked about her 😂😂😂😂
I also thought sounds just like what happened in GOT and then Lindsay mentioned it.
GRRM Is very open about being inspired by (English) medieval history.
Lindsay, I just wanna say I used to never be into history until I started watching your channel! You make the topics very interesting.
Oh i've been WAITING for this one 😩
With Jacquetta, Elizabeth, and their descendants it's also said that they're of the line of to goddess Melusine which is where it's said they get their power from. (Something that wasn't made up for the novels and TV show. Philippa Gregory just incorporated the family legend into her books.)
Also, I think it's crazy amazing that these women are the progenitors of about 200 years of royalty.
Thanks!!!
The more you know!!! ======*
@@prairiepennyproductions Funny story: when deciding who the crown should go to after Anne, they passed over 41 more qualified candidates to get to George I because they were Catholic, including Marie Antoinette's great-grandfather. That means that, by 1760, if we're following strict primogeniture rules, Marie Antoinette (and all her siblings) technically had a better blood claim to the British throne than George III.
I love your videos so, I took history class because of your videos
"... or maybe typhoid" 🤣💀
Thanks for uploading Lindsay ❤😊
And I appreciate your long video so much
I'm loving your October collection of scary videos. Keep it up!
Lindsaaaay, I only came across your channel maybe a month ago. I have watched/listened to so many of them by now over the past few weeks 😂 lots of love from a Welsh fan 🏴
I love the Halloween content :) every now and then I go back to those first videos you posted relating to it
LOVE YOUR CONTENT Lindsay! Thanks For this! You're the Best Narrator there is! Could hear you talk about anything and still be happy! keep up the good work! Please consider covering the trastamara dynasty! hearth please
30k to go, and all deserved! Great vid.
I just want to post: thank you. This was the chill Halloween-leaning vibes I needed today. I really appreciate your calming voice telling me history. You legit got me through sone crazy long lonely breastfeeding months for my second kid. I just want to say I appreciate you. :)
Thank you!
I do remember Humphrey and Eleanor are depicted In a Shakespeare play Henry the sixth. .funny thou Henry the 5th is not depicted accusing his step mother of being a witch.
timely topic. Thank you, much enjoyed!
This was just brilliant. I brought so many royal witches books over the summer, mainly the Woodville ladies.
so more like 7 royal women accused of witchcraft by their political foes
As a descendant of Jacquetta I like to think we have a little magic in us lol
*Me who has a dark spot on my back*
Also Me : well I guess I am supposedly a witch 👀
Your videos always make my day better! I love relaxing and learning about royal history from you 🫶🏼
I highly recommend the movie version of Richard III (1995- Staring Sir Ian Mckellen) Queen Elizabeth, wife of Edward IV was gloriously portrayed by Annette Bening, her brother by Robert Downey Jr, and her mother in law was none other than Dame Maggie Smith.
It's intriguing you say this. I'm related to royalty and immediately wondered if these people are in my lineage. 😳
@@LOD-dt8to wouldn’t it be cool ? Right ?
@@makeupboss3568 I haven't decided if it is a blessing or a curse before I watched this, so afterwards I don't feel conflicted... Just strangely out of sorts
I'm sorry but I can't take claims like that seriously. Modern historians can't even be totally sure that Merlin as an individual, actual man ever existed. And if he did there is no evidence that he could perform actual magic. It just seems silly to me, for someone to think they have inherited "magic" in some capacity.
@@victoriadiesattheend.8478 I did say “ IF “ .
its always a good day when Lindsay posts ❤🎉
That’s who Veronica is tysm for telling me that ❤
This is excellent and in time for Halloween
I absolutely love your content. You’ve helped me re-learn about my own history (France)
this vlog was so very historically interesting! thank you Lindsay 😃
We need you, your historical info and calming voice more than ever! Thank you! ❤
Not all queens have good endings, only miserable consequences in the end as witches.
Not schizophrenia; I have it and it’s not brought on suddenly. There can be a million different cause for a psychotic break, such as going to war
It can be brought on suddenly by a traumatic event. Happened to my grandfather, mother and my paternal grandmother's neighbour.
Appaled but not suprised and some of these (granted the way she retells these stories is like 60% of it) could be tv shows
Awesome video!
I’m such a huge fan of this page! Thank you for all the content t you post! ❤
This is a channel, not a page - a big difference.
So excited for this one! Love your videos so much!
Wasn't familiar with the first two. Very interesting and refreshing 😃
When I saw this video topic, I immediately thought of Eleanor Cobham 💙
Blessed be, Lindsay!
Anne Boleyn is also referenced as a witch in The Chilling Tales of Sabrina on Netflix. The call for her to help in a spell
netflix isnt reality tho......lol
Fellow witch here!! Thanks for the new video drop and interesting topic, love your work🖤
Where’s my serpent queen?
AMAZING OPENING! Another tuesday another GREAT video with Lindsay! You're the Queen of narration and history! All those AI shows have NOTHING on you! Keep up the good work!
I actually enjoyed this video. Your voice is also calming.
Love your videos. 💙
Lindsay makes Tuesdays enjoy ❤
They claimed that children's toys were witchcraft? how dum, i know they werent that sharp about some things but that seems like common sense to me.
This is great!!❤❤❤❤❤
Very beautifully done. Learned lots new things ❤
Please do a genetic video on deposed monarchies of europe please
The only real witch I ever met was very kind. She selflessly helped me when I was in a bad situation one time. I will be forever grateful.
I love your content! Happy Halloween! 🎃🎃🎃👻👻👻
Oh, I'm so early! Love the content :)
So good!!!!
I know it’s unlikely this will be read, but if it is, I hope it was somewhat enlightening for someone.
what about catherine de' medici ?
Elizabeth Woodville and her mother Jequetta deLuxemborg were really witches and what they did the people deserved. They’re curses stuck. I’m a proud descendant of them both and a witch as well. We’re not evil. We do more help than harm. Just treat us right and we’ll reciprocate.
It’s interesting that Green Sleeves is such a pretty tune but also a song written to slander a long dead woman.
Have you ever considered doing longer form videos? I'd bet they would do well. Not a criticism at all, i like 20-30 minutes but you're a great story teller and so many of these topics could be taken so much further. I've just found your channel, really enjoying it. Thanks!
Got it. If I ever go back in time as a woman, I'll make sure not to stand out...
