Yea, lots of issues with this video, but nice effort on the sharpener design just needs some modification and should never grind on the side of a wheel, it will soon explode
Good comment below, I was going to write as well. Another safety concern I seen was drilling holes in small pieces of metal and holding them with your fingers and hands. The drill can grab as it breaks through the metal surface causing it to spin. Believe me, it will spin faster than you can let go jamming between the part and the drill press column. Not good. If you can't put the part up against the post to stop the possibility of turning, clamp or use pliers like you did later. Hate to see anyone get hurt using power tools. Nice build on your bit sharpner. And, thanks for sharing.
DANGER ! DANGER!The side of a grindstone is not to be used for ginding, sharpening of drillbits, chisels, or any action which causes side pressure on the grinding wheel. The circumferential narrow surface is where the work is to be done. NOTE: Any side pressure can cause the wheel to SHATTER.
@@standonald5145 Sorry but if you have been using the side of grinding wheels for 40+ years without incedent you are very lucky, also been in the industry 40+ years and have seen a wheel shatter.
Ah no need to say sorry , It's just I use a proper Eclipse drill holder and once iv set the drill it only gently kisses the side face ov the wheel , and once sharp turn the drill and do the other side , and if I may add I was born in 1954 . I have a Blacksmith friend who came to visit one afternoon and I'd just sharpened my imperial set , his comments were he had never seen drills so sharp as you will no it's all about the pointy angle thingie magjigery bit 🤔 whether it drills a hole or squeals like a binding disc brake pad .
@@standonald5145 Started my apprentaship in 1973 as 17 yr old and the second thing we were taught after safety was how to sharpen a drill without a thingammi jig took a while but still have that skill to this day and its not so much the sharpness but the correct angles and reliefs.
Yes you are spot on rite the chisel angle has to be rite both land masses equal and web thining helps cut a clean hole , I am off out to my workshop to put a New carb on a 24" chainsaw the chap needs it back to finish a fence .
This is a VHV (Very handy video) It teaches you a lot in a short while. Even by just watching it, one can grasp the essentials and build one with whatever materials and tools you have! Thanks very much I hopr this goes viral amongst the machining fraternity!
I think the bit projects too far from the pivot point of the jig. That results in very little clearance behind the cutting edge which is why it was so hard to drill a hole with the 'sharp' drill. Compare this jig to the classic General drill grinding jig to see the difference.
Checking on original drill bits you will see the cutting angle is different !!!! But still better than using by hand only. This way, the area that drill bit contact to material too large ! That’s a problem 0:04 because of heat ! Drill bit will be hot so fast !

The side of a grinding wheel is UNSTABLE and open to SHATTERING!
SAFETY 101 using grinding wheels that's taught in trade schools.

what if the small size is 6 mm and below... need to make another small one or each size for one tool...

The drill before sharpening looked better than after also the chips while cutting were wrong as well as too many safety issues here.
Exelente. gracias por enseñar.

Thank you for a roller an instrument is good. With kind regards to you and your channel «Second life of the PET bottles».
This way imposible with small bits
You need blade touch sharp line on bit to let bit 100% on one direction
una genial idea felicitaciones
pra quem sabe é muito pratico, parabéns ASIA

After the first attempt the grinding wheel get grooved and the other side was not sharpened properly. 😅
