Could you imagine, halfway through Halo Infinite, we're slowly making our way through a seemingly abandoned UNSC camp trying to piece together what happened and where the forces went and then the word corrupter shows up on our screen followed by the sounds of the flood returing once more.
This could easily be one of the boss fights. A Spartan IV, infected by the Flood, comes forth to challenge the "armoured casket". He summons forth combat forms to overwhelm the Chief, but just as the situation seems untenable, some rather wise Banished step in to help distract the combat forms so Chief can duel the infected Spartan 1 v 1.
What if Master Chief is ordered to defeat the infected Spartan because he is literally in the same area, and he apparently can't escape because i WANT A BOSS BATTLE
I mean..yeah, Spartan knowledge is extensive in battle, but at the same time, would it really be that hard? It'd be the same as killing someone in multiplayer. The hardest part would be disposing the body so it can't be brought back over & over.

Spartans getting infected would also be terrifying logistics wise due to who knows how many ONI secrets the gravemind could extract from the Spartan from their secret missions.
nightninja 909 I would think that Spartans assigned to flood research facilities would be hardwired with some killcode thet would blow up/vaporize a spartan if infected. Heck, the mini reactor in the armor could go super nova.
Corruptor absolutely warrants WMDs. If one SPARTAN was infected then it’s likely their fireteam will follow. I’d use a Nova bomb or a Slipspace bomb for my Upsilon contingency. No half measures where the Flood are concerned
@@smileyfacism referring to the halo nova bomb which was in the books. And i quote: This is the prototype NOVA bomb, nine fusion warheads encased in lithium triteridearmor. When detonated, it compresses its fissionable material to neutron-star density, boosting the thermonuclear yield a hundredfold. I am Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb, temporarily in command of the UNSC military base Reach. To the Covenant uglies that might be listening, you have a few seconds to pray to your damned heathen gods. You all have a nice day in hell..." Moments after detonation: "A Battle group of eighteen destroyers, two crusiers, and one carrier collected in high orbit over Joyous Exultation, and drew in a spherical formation about their flagship, the Incorruptible. They shimmered blue-white and vanished into slipspace. A Heartbeat later Vice Admiral Whitcomb's ploy of shipping the UNSC Prototype Nova Bomb into Covenant supplies had finally paid off: A star ignited between the Joyous Exultation and it's moon. Every ship not protected on the dark side of the planet boiled and vaporized in an instant. The Atmosphere of the planet wavered as helical spirals of luminescent particles lit both north and south poles, making curtains of blue and green ripple over the globe. As the thermonuclear pressure wave spread and butted against the thermosphere, it heated the air orange, compressed it, until it touched the ground and scorched a quarter of the planet. The Tiny nearby moon Malhiem cracked and shattered into a billion rocky fragments and clouds of dust. The over pressure force subsided, and three-hundred-kilometer-hour winds swept over the Joyous Exultation, Obliterating cities and whipping tidal waves over the coastlines." Some one did the math and it came out to a power of 1.2 billion megatons at a minimum estimate.
I want a Flood based Firefight mode. And having certain waves just come up with a [CORRUPTER] warning and giving a time limit to slay an approaching infected spartan would be pretty intense
*If a Spartan gets infected:* Marine 1: well code: corrupter has been announced.... Marine 2: what do we do? Marine 1: I have an idea. Marine 2: what? *marine 1 shoots himself in the head*
@@SPX157 This is why all units should be issued a heart-rate monitor and a personal incendiary rigging. If they flatline or if the medical monitor detects flood infection, the rigging flash-incinerates the wearer's entire body to ash (And you can't tell me the HALO universe doesn't have some kind of incendiary weapon capable of reducing a Spartan or Elite completely to ash that they could hook up to a HUD and medical monitor and have it auto-trigger on-death or on infestation).
Covenant: "Its only one spartan and we finally cornered him" *turns corner* Infected Spartan: "All the limitless strength plus this technology, you won't survive the night" Halo 2 Marine: "You know I think I will sit this one out"
Honestly with how books describe Spartans and their abilities and knowlege. I imagine that Infected Spartan moving around like a demon. A true demon. Moving around like a lightning bolt and hitting as hard as thunder because Spartans are already fast/stronk+mjorlnir+lack of need to worry about pain (cause ya know... Flood reeeaaalllyyy dont care if the host is in pain or not) blechhh. The horror. Plus their intelligence. They'd be skulking in the shadows. Fahk. Terrifying to think about.
@@tropx3118 He might have meant a flood form that doesn't operate the same way most other flood forms do. Instead of a high number swarm, perhaps a limited, fast attack form, that can possibly dodge attacks, and fall back when damaged.
No no no, obviously he wants a gravemind or protogravemind to return in some way, and then for them to make a noticeable difference. In hw2, we got to see that the flood can produce forms sophisticated enough to seize control of vehicles. See, what distinguishes the flood from other classic sci-fi zombie problems has always been their borg-like assimilation of their victim’s intellect and capacity for full use of it. He wants to see vehicular flood forms, or at least more flood forms which exemplify these traits. I mean, how cool would a flood firefight mode be where some boss waves contained, like, a flood scorpion or phantom? That would be sick.
Could you imagine a halo game, where half way through after battling remnant covenant, rebels, and such. Your back on ship talking to your superior officer about the next mission and right before the screen cuts to black You hear in the background "This is (radio static) message to all (static) code word: (static) I repeat corrupter" and then it just goes all black. My god ugh this has be giddy.
@@walrusmcgee They were designed that way. They're nothing like the Covenant. Their movement is supposed to be close to unpredictable, because in their entirety that's what the Flood are minus the occasional "planned" attack/ambush
As the shipmaster said in Halo 3, "one single flood spoor can destroy an entire species." Keeping this in mind they glassed half of Africa. The use of WMDs is definitely acceptable
@xXHEXENXx probably changed the lore again. 5 years ago it was said they destroyed all of that City and several neighboring towns and the landscape all around the area to be safe and they even covered up the flood's infestation on earth to begin with.
However I do want to know how exactly do the UNSC plan on containing the flood to that kind of measure, nukes need time to be primed and launched which their time of arrival is dependent from where they were launched from and bombs need to be planted, primed then detonated manually if any detonators they have on hand fail, the UNSC flood containment weapons have so much room for the flood to get through if so much as one error occurs compared to the covenant's readiness of the glass cannons that can be fired numerous times either without recharging or between charges.
@@cursedhawkins1305 I'm probably talking out of my ass since I don't know how havoc nukes actually work, but I'm assuming any fortification or ship near a flood infested area will most likely have at least one warhead pre primed just in case. We also saw in Halo 4 that it doesn't take that long to detonate a havoc, since master chief did it on the didact's ship and the covenant almost did it on the infinity
@@mercury2157 Well just as a mention, Chief is still a Spartan a soldier that's more difficult to infect, even with protocols such as corrupter and epsilon not all spartans are probably gonna understand the severity of the situation case and point spartan 3s and spartan 4s, they've never had experienced an flood outbreak to an extensive that chief had back in the original trilogy, simulations are one thing but they can't fully prepare you for what the flood are really capable of something that these newer generation of spartans are gonna end up falling to and result being infected.
yeah somehow the small flood thing was able to grab on his back and opened the leather on the back of his neck. He got stabbed but Cortana was able to overload his armor and the flood thing died basically
Reason that infection managed to get to him was because a combat form clocked Chief with a wrench, no? I seem to recall some detail about Chief and his shields being knocked down before that popcorn got on him.
Using a WMD on a single infected spartan is totally reasonable IMO. Spartans have been known to take down entire ships or even fleets of covenant ships. Having one with the collective knowledge of the flood would likely end humanity
Kinson Runyon Fun fact! He was actually almost infected by the flood. In the book titled The Flood it follows the story of the first halo game. During the mission The Maw, he is almost infected. Like the infection form is burrowing into his neck. The only thing that saved him was Cortana using his shields as a sort of emp to forcefully eject the form from the suit. Even the best of he best could fall. And then we’re screwed
Imagine Blue Team or one of the members of Blue Team getting infected by the Flood, that would be a real boss fight for Chief, and maybe his greatest opponent ever.
Ouch… That’d be a Double Whammy for him… A S-II and one of his friends would be Gone. If Chief went AWOL after Cortana’s “Death”, Lord knows what he’d do after that
This is some very interesting Lore! I honestly really think it is necessary to use such destructive weapons against an infected Spartan, though. With how powerful and how useful they are, I would do anything to make sure that as much as a single Spartan doesn't fall into the Parasite's hand! :)
Yeah, I totally feel the same way. I think they're really trying to hype up the Flood by giving us little bits of information without downright spoiling the story.
Imagine something like a retread of the infinity section on halo 4, but it's packed with flood and the ship is losing power and has entered quarenteen mode. It'd be just like dead space, god damn that'd be so cool.
One way to counter the memory assimilation is for each member of the team to only have a piece of the plans and codes for containment. That way if one gets infected, the flood cant really do anything with the information it gets.
I know this is a necro comment, but: this is still insufficient. The Gravemind never degenerates. It could infect twelve Spartans on twelve worlds and instantly know what all of them know. You buy some time with piecemeal intel distribution, but on a long enough timescale, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
What about automatic self destruct? I mean when Spartan get infected, the suit Will detect corupted DNA and blow up,or get burn automaticlly,or put something to Spartan brain, when the flood reach the brain it will get burn
@@debianlasmana8794 I am sure both UNSC and UEG would have think of that!! But we all know the flood are definitely will try to disengage this safety protocol!! When the Flood have successfully disengage these safety protocol, then CORRUPTER AND Upsilon will definitely need to be enact!!
If the infection form kills the host then takes control of the body, then it would be impossible to infect a spartan. We all know spartans don't die, right?
Doodlmguy: what is it this time Masterchief: oh nothing just a colony infested flood pandemic....oh and you're going to need this (Hands over some anti flood Spartan armor) Doomguy: siri cancel all my appointment for today and probably all week and also play relaxing music (Intense doom/halo double remix play)
Shipmaster, Halo 3: "One single flood spore can wipe out an entire species!" Spartan: I am designed to be dropped onto a hostile planet and kill everything that moves. Flood: You look tasty. UNSC: Welp. Time to smash that planet with another planet.
When it comes to a Spartan getting infected, the more reasonable contingency would probably be to put a kill agent in the Mjolnir armor that activates when it detects a Flood infection in the Spartan wearing it. That idea aside though, nukes are otherwise totally reasonable to stop that shit right quick.
This makes me want a mode where we get simulations of these events happening as side stories. Imagine getting to see how Spartan fireteams respond when corruptor or other codes get triggered
Here’s a great idea for a fanfic: what if Emile killed the Field Marshal during Winter Contingency? How would the rest of the campaign for Reach play out??
Technically if the unsc could reverse engineer the halo weapon and scale down its power so you can control the size of the area it effects. It could be very effective at dealing with flood outbreaks without wiping out the entire galaxy.
According to the book The Flood, Spartans can be infected (from around the neck) and John almost was, though Cortana saved him. If the shrimp manages to latch unto them from behind and they have no means to remove it like an AI or a comrade, well, they're done for.
Using Infection as a substitute for training Spartans for a Flood outbreak is a rubbish idea since it doesn't even include any real Flood Forms - seems more like a weird mini-game the Spartans would play in their spare time or something
Can you please edit your original message to fit spark's speech patterns? It was soooo close, but damn, realized you were actually just making an observation and not making a joke about spark's feelings about containment protocols about halfway through, made me sadm
I'd say that if the suit detects Flood super cells inside the suit, it should immediately self-destruct, unless it detects friendlies, nearby who can take out the infected Spartan Also, Gardeviour, make a black hole
I don’t think the suit should take any chances even with friendlies around. If someone like Chief got infected, literally the only way to stop him, MAYBE, is to self destruct. Other spartans wouldn’t stand a chance.
And also terrifying normal flood is already hard to deal with imagine the diffivulty settings when they decide to put flood spartans with all their battle tactics and ability to use any weapon in the game
That would completely change the mood. Especially if the ring gets shut down in that situation. Like if a flood spore manages to get into one of the dead spartan 4 units corpses. That's corrupter in an instant. And that would morph the game into a genuine horror game, if we were then being stalked by it.
@@jhonnoilcringeincarnato8593 actually the UAC wasn't capable of opening the armor with all they crazy as technology imagine one simple infection form with just shity tentacles
Man, imagine what the Soldiers, Admirals, and Spartans would be thinking if multiple instances of "Corruptor" happened simultaneously instead of just one. How terrifying it would be to hear the emotionless drone of some automated message system chanting "Corruptor" over and over again over their communications systems, knowing exactly what it meant. It would be a dark day for the UNSC indeed.
Kaito Kobayashi - It’s just like in halo reach at the end cutscene of ‘Long night of Solace’ when the covenant cruisers keep appearing, and D.O.T. Keeps saying “Slip space rupture detected.” Over and over and over followed by screams, that’d be terrifying
Well it's not that unlikely if you think about it, one would assume that flood containment Spartans work in either pairs of 2s or maybe even like groups of 3-5 so to have multiple "Corrupter" called out would make the most sense if it ever happened making this situation even more terrifying. Like a team of heavily armed and trained super soliders get infected by the flood, they'd act as like frontline flood units killing everything in front of them and allowing infection forms to just dig into the dead bodies adding more to their numbers.
It's a minor thing, but it bothers me whenever I see someone use "MAC cannon" when referring to that weapon. MAC stands for Magnetic Accelerator Cannon, so adding cannon onto the end of that is a bit redundant.
It'd be cool if this new lore was introduced in a new, but twisted flood war game. Once a random spartan, or a group of spartans, is infected, protocol Corruptor will be broadcasted. The surviving spartans will have two ways to win the game : To eliminate all infected spartans (perhaps flood npcs as well?) within allotted time or evacuate before the area is obliterated by a WMD. The Flood wins if either all spartans is infected or prevent the surviving spartans from evacuating. Its similar to the traditional infection mode, but the flood has an amount of lives and the spartans are on a timer. I dont know but I think its cool😁

Jackson Almodobar I agree. That would be a tactical decision that would make sense.
I'm pretty sure spartan armor has the ability to self destruct but you have to do it manually, as in you have to do it on the armor itself

This is the prototype NOVA bomb, nine fusion warheads encased in lithium triteridearmor. You all have a nice day in hell..."
Moments after detonation:
"A Battle group of eighteen destroyers, two crusiers, and one carrier collected in high orbit over Joyous Exultation, and drew in a spherical formation about their flagship, the Incorruptible.
The over pressure force subsided, and three-hundred-kilometer-hour winds swept over the Joyous Exultation, Obliterating cities and whipping tidal waves over the coastlines."
Some one did the math and it came out to a power of 1.2 billion megatons at a minimum estimate.

They didn't glass half of Africa, Lord Hood was just exaggerating.
I remember in the Halo books specifically The Flood book that Chief almost got infected, well highjacked is probably the proper term.
