A little comic relief this morning. Thanks for making this video, Chris. I'll be back tomorrow morning and maybe watch one of the other 1300 videos later today.
This cracked me up. Your legs dangling looked like Elf On The Shelf. Bill watched the video. This idea might have potential here. The surgeon who rebuilt my thumb said no more hand splitting for me. Big rounds are stood up and I saw them into managable pieces. This might help out busting up larger rounds. Great video.

Cris ain't gonna freeze. He's got wood out of the gazoot. But it's still fun watching the videos like you said. I tried it last summer with a brand new dewalt hammergun that I bought for breaking up front steps that were crumbling at my sister and laws house. They were old. House was built in 1948. They put cinderblocks as the base. Then concrete all around it and on top. Well anyway when I tried to use my dewalt with the wedge bit. All it did was go inside about a inch and stop and get stuck. I could see that it wouldn't work. It needed to keep pushing inward. All it did was hammer on the outside and barely go inside. That's why a maul and steel wedges are better. They keep going in like a ram splitter. Even when I used my monster maul, it worked better that the dewalt hammergun. Because it goes in further and with 210 pounds of force behind it. It's back to the gas splitter. ⛽️
So what I think we all learned today, use the proper tool for the job. I now know a jackhammer is NOT the right tool for splitting wood. HA Loved it when both feet where suspended and nothing.
Fun video today Chris! 🔥💯👍. Would be interesting to see how it would make out with a wedge type of splitter head on it 🔥💯👍. See you soon! Andrew from NB :)
I thought the answer would be no. And, in reality, I was right. What a waste of time when a maul would do the job so much better and quicker. Fun experiment though!
Only you would do a short segment on splitting wood with a jackhammer. should have waited for Kenny......lol. this was a hoot.....thanks for sharing with us.
Good morning Chris!!😀😀 I often wonder if a Jack hammer would work for splitting wood effectively. The jury is in. A resounding NO!! It's looking like winter is going to catch up with us this week. Thanks for the smile, great content. I wish when you chucked the maul on that cord you shorted it, that would have made even better RUclips content. Hit the like button.
A sledge hammer is quicker if the concrete is only 4-5 inches thick. You just have to lift it and drop/hit it. Unless you're next to something you have to be careful by, most of the pros have those but don't use them often outside. Nice video. The wood soaks up the blows from that little jack hammer. (electric =Whimpey, Pneumatic=more powerful usually) Wood needs an Eastenmade to split it.
Thats a really nice nothing burger. The machine wears you out before you even get a couple pieces split. I have a dewalt hammergun and the same shat happened. It was brand new. Oh well its splitter time. Its good for breaking up concrete pads and walkways. And drilling overhead for hilti bolts for your pipe hangers because i know you need that when your trying to split wood. Its gas splitter time.
I bought one of those, works great on rock and compacted clay/pan materials. I have several bits for it and It tamps and compacts well. Keep an eye on the oil level and don’t over fill! It was a good price and it had great reviews! Sure as hell NOT using it for firewood splitting 😂😂😂😂😂
Better tip and softer wood. Dryer wood maybe.. start from the edge. But yeah better wedge and and start from the edge and it might be the ticket for those big rounds you have to noodle down to work with.
@@InTheWoodyard for sure. Just one of those s and g things if you had to. Plus the right wedge for the hammer might actually work better than noodling lol.

Even Superman would have a hard time splitting with a jackhammer. I've tried it myself, not sure if the stroke isn't long enough or the bit needs more wedge shape. Didn't seem reasonable that it could break concrete, but not firewood rounds. So I built a big wedge for the bottom of a Shaver post pounder. That didn't work either. Hit after hit, no split, but it did drive the round right down in the ground! I tried it sittin' on concrete too. If it wasn't sitting darn near perfect, it'd come flying out of there with some real force! Well, being a quick study, it didn't take more than half a dozen tries for me to decide on some other project! Who'd a thunk? Thot I'd take a few minutes and reinvent the wheel. Blew that one too. Did better building a hydraulic splitter. Telling you this to save you some time. You can go ahead and try these if you want, but the maul is prob safer.

Use a maul axe, more effective. Is there a bit with a maul axe head profile?
I will just stick to my Eastomade Ultra and the 22mb from now on.
I used a 90# breaker with a wedge on oak before and it didn't work either. It over wound my wrist watch and ruined it.
