Dude! Red Panda particle swells! I was looking for something crazy like this! You know when you hit that awesome chord and its soul touching! Wow must have!
Hey David Hislop, I have a question if you’ve got a minute or three haha. I’m worried that sometimes I disappear from the mix. People in the congregation say that they can hear me during the choruses/loud parts but that they can’t hear me when it’s a lower dynamic like a bridge or a verse or if I’m doing ambient stuff. We don’t have a lot of instruments necessarily, it’s usually just me on electric, bass, drums and keyboard so I don’t think that I should ever disappear unless I’m just not playing. That makes me question wether I have my gain staging/overdrive staging set up correctly. Currently I have it so when I kick on my overdrives for choruses and that bigger sound it gets louder, and I’m assuming that the sound guy mixes me in at this level, so when I don’t have those on I drop out because I’m not loud enough/don’t have enough gain, hypothetically speaking anyway. Should I not have my drives give me more volume? Should I decrease the volume I get from my drives so everything is the same volume wise?
Hi James! I'm not David Hislop but I might be able to help. I apologize if I have wrong grammars in this comment. English is not my native language 😅. I was an electric guitar player at my church and became a sound guy when our former sound guy went to another country. I'm not the best sound guy but I learned a lot from watching videos on youtube and also by practicing on virtual soundchecks. The thing is, your volume might not be the problem. Being loud doesn't mean you will cut through the mix . So here are some of my thoughts that might solve your problem: 1.) Difference in tone between your non-overdriven and overdriven sound. It might be that your guitar's mid frequencies disappears when you do not engage your overdrive. An electric guitar is usually heard in the midrange frequency. 2. You might be playing in the same range as the other instruments. Your instrument's sound is easily buried in the mix if your playing in the same range as the others i.e. keys. 3. You're electric guitar's sound is not mixed right in the front-of-house or your band's overall sound is not mixed right at all - If every instrument in your band is not EQd correctly, it will muddy-up your mix therefore losing clarity on your overall mix. I hope this helps. God bless you! 😊
That board is awesome!! I’m trying to. Build one right now. I have walrus slo, wampler faux tape, wampler terraform, Neunaber shimmer, mini ditto, I still need over drive and distortion.
I have a large temple audio board. I’m looking to add a volume pedal to my board. I was noticing your volume pedal and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one of those. Is it reliable? I have heard that the Ernie ball vp can break or wear out easily. Does your vp have a cable or is it electro optical?
the pedal he's using is a Hilton Pro Volume Pedal. he said it worked through some infrared mechanism so that there's no wearable parts such as strings etc.. i dont know how it works you'll just have to wait for him to respond.
xSynchr0 right. I watched it again and realized I missed that. I looked and found a Morley volume that uses the same technology so that’s what I’m gonna go with. Morley 20/20 volume wah combo. Seems pretty nice
Amazing Vid!! Thank you for sharing this!! Your tones are absolutely insane!! Can you please give us some tips on how you fly with your gear and what that looks like?
David Hislop I’m using the keeley caverns and a strymon el capistan . I want a good volume pedal to add to my board. Is your volume pedal reliable? I’ve never seen one like it. Btw those strymon presets are great. We play king of my heart Sunday and I am definitely using that patch.
Thanks for the cool video man! Quick question about your guitar volume knob - noticed you were swelling with the knob instead of the VP. When you play, are you basically keeping your guitar volume knob at 10? I usually play with it at 7 but know other guitarists dime it and dial in their tone that way. Thanks and God bless!
Henning Pauly (EytschPi42) likes 'em a lot too, and he's a hard-rock/metal-type guy. But he's also an insane person, so... In all seriousness, Strymon products are *really* good, as long as you don't mind digital effects, and an empty wallet.
Prasanth Selvadurai I personally think so, especially for different price points. But it’s all about tone and how the pedals feel to you so I can’t speak for everyone 😄
@@0megalul309 boss pedals are just fine. People used boards of nothing but boss pedals from the 80s until the boutique boom. The best thing is if something breaks you can walk into almost any music shop in a pinch and replace it. Too each their own though. I like boss pedals and a slightly less empty wallet 😆
@@DavidHislop really trying to cut pedal board size down and do without the strymon stuff, the timeline and mobius were not that difficult to "replace" but, anxious to hear your "big sky" reverb creations with the stomp/helix...no I didn't sell the Strymon stuff, but have not been missing it and I'm enjoying the small board and ease of the Stomps snap shot mode...if you add the two button switch and use snap shot mode you can have 5 sounds for each song, with all tempos in sync, plenty
hi David! Great video for those who follow you! I am among them! i have some questions! 1. Do you like the amt expression pedal? does it have enough fluctuation range? why not dunlop mini? 2.would you be able to make a video or graphic of preset pog 2? I understand that it is not difficult to repeat yourself but you want accuracy in it! 3.I didn't understand if you were using a preamp. why don't you use stereo preamp for example in the left ear fender prosonic and in the right vox? thank you! you are a wonderful person! praise the Lord Jesus Christ! you are an example of how to do it professionally!sorry for the google translate
Hi David, first thank you for this video! I'm building a new pedal board and modeling some of the new setup similar to yours. I have a few pedals I want to run stereo (Strymon Timeline/Bigsky, Walrus Chorus, etc.) I've watched this video a few times taking notes. So I know one channel out (mono) runs through the chain or all pedals to, in your case, the Underfacer. Ok, so here's my dumb question please bear in mind I am learning. For the other channel out (stereo) if I have more than one pedal for stereo do you daisy chain those together or is there some other device where each out are joined like a junction box of some kind with a single out? Basically, my question is, how do you get to a single out for the second channel (stereo) out? I hope that makes sense. I appreciate any help. Thank you.
Hey!! Blessings, I´m form Ecuador. Excelent sound! You are a genius at this! I want to ask about the noise, I power my pedals with Zuma, I have some Strymon pedals, JHS, etc. but I can't get rid of an annoying noise, any advice? My guitar is a Stratocaster
Hello, the noise problem could be a few things together. 1.) Your pickups are single coils so theres pickup noise & hum 2.) Compressor pedals add noise to your signal 3.) Poorly/cheaply made guitar cable or patch cables dont shield and block radio frequencies 4.) If your amp gain and volume gain are really high then there is going to be added noise even if youre on a modeller 5.) Take off some of the high and low frequencies but not too much to where theres no punch or clarity, interference is also in the highs so that should help. 6.) Use a quality di box and add buffers to the beginning and end of your signal I've found those help a ton 7.) And finally always use grounded power & make sure the metal parts of your patch cables arent touching if they're cheap ones & if a patch cable is dying then they can buzz and crackle. Hope this can help you with your board and future problems God bless! 🤙
Hi David, just wondering how your board compensates signal loss or “tone suck” from having a large number of pedals. What pedals have a buffered signal? Are you running any buffer pedals with the sole purpose of adding back the clarity of your guitar to amp signal? Thank you!
Thank you. I showed this video to my wife to prove I don’t already have too many pedals.

@@0megalul309 yeah their not cheap but cheaper than strymon 😆 y'all dont even want to know what I use you'll laugh hysterically.
Richard Fortus from GNR uses a Timeline in his rack pedals
Amazing pedalboard rundown!! Might need to add some new pedals to my setup after hearing your killer tones!
Thanks man! Always fun experimenting with new gear.
AMAZING SOUND !!!
Finally!!! This is amazing! Thanks for sharing David! Curious, will you release any HX Stomp presets?
Yes, Helix/HX stomp presets coming soon! Subscribe to my site to stay updated - www.davidhislop.co
Amazing! 🔥
Loved the bit of Delirious? Now is the Time intro! Kilt is amazing.
This is just beautiful thank you!!! Also when are you releasing your Helix patches?! Cause I'm a Helix user and I can't wait.
Soon! Working on getting them dialed!
@@DavidHislop are you building them for the Stomp or Big Helix?
Scott Greer both!
How many strymon’s do you need to make it to heaven ?
Very informative!!
Thank you, David!! ❤
Worship leader during spontaneous: OKAY LETS SING WAY MAKER NOW.
David: Ok bank 74
Me: how do u even remember all 300 presets
Hey David, How are you getting the swells in this video? Are you using the volume knob on guitar or it's a preset in Bigsky/Timeline?
Hey man, I am using my volume pedal for swells.
What about at 34:20 ? You are not using volume pedal right?

Thank you very much for your reply. I think I found the problem in the electrical connections in the house!! greetings from Ecuador
DAVID. Can you PLEASE do a play-through for the parts on Cory Asbury's Egypt? Please.
Hi David, just wondering how your board compensates signal loss or “tone suck” from having a large number of pedals. What pedals have a buffered signal? Are you running any buffer pedals with the sole purpose of adding back the clarity of your guitar to amp signal? Thank you!
Such a thorough and well done rundown! How do you remember what bank each song is under when you’re on stage?
Thanks! I remember most off the top of my head, but if its a song we haven't played in a while and I don't remember, I have a note I can reference.
Nice board, David! Tone is 🔥
