@@DM-nw5lu In their case, I'm unable to judge whether going to an ex when you're w someone is justifiable or not. There is a lot we don't know about them. I do understand why it must be traumatising for them - their partner would rather go to an ex than be with them, even if it's 'momentarily' or a one time thing. It does a number on your self-esteem.
I'm just saying if they are so aware of how much it hurt them, they should remove themselves from the toxicity,,,after a point just love isn't enough. There has to be trust, respect and so much more. The reason is that way back in the late 1960s women began wanting to be treated as adults, not perennial children, so we began to insist on being called women. I don't understand the "on a break" thing. And it never works out in my opinion. You're either broken up or you're together and working on the relationship.
Some people can't just break up, it's too sudden and shocking. They use the "on a break" thing to break up but slower so they have time to heal.
As someone who many years ago had a relationship with multiple periods of "on a break" I completely agree. That relationship was not good for either of us; yet neither of us seemed (initially) capable of making AND enforcing the break up. I am grateful to her for finally doing the hard thing, even if at the time I wasn't happy about it.
Idk it can happen in SOME situations but not all for sure. I've been on breaks before where I was madly in love and so was he, but I felt we were moving at different paces. He was ready for marriage and kids NOW meanwhile I wasn't and it was getting stressful and tense as we got older. The break really helped remind us why were in this. We missed each other so much. A break has to be a REAL break though. Where you actually take space from your loved one BUT you're not single... you're not hooking up or flirting with anyone. Just, away from your significant other for a bit. Young couples always spend too much time with each other and don't understand when the honeymoon phase is over that it's normal to want space from the other or to not always agree or be moving at the same pace. Doesn't automatically mean break up.

I totally agree. My partner and I are “taking a break” but it’s more like we’re taking space to work on ourselves while still seeing each other. It’s giving us both a chance to become independent and heal our mental wounds that we’re getting in the way of us being happy. It’s only been a few weeks but so far it’s the best decision I’ve made. We’ve learned that we love each other so much but in order for us to be in a healthy relationship we need to learn to love ourselves more.

I don't understand the concept of a "break." My ex-offered a break and made it clear she would be sleeping around, but it was necessary for our relationship to work. But even without the intention of seeking external sexual interactions, a break is just an excuse to break up at a later date.

I wasn't planning of getting with anyone else though. I wanted to be alone and get my sh*t together. We never ended up taking a break but it was a really difficult time for him having to be around me when I was going through suicidal thoughts and crying myself to sleep night after night. I didn't want him to be there through it and didn't want him to feel bad if he did want an out. He chose being there and I'm sure it messed him up to a certain degree. I still feel bad about that.
I offered my ex a break because he wasn't accepting that I was breaking up with him as much as I would tell him that it's over. I thought maybe some time apart would help him come to terms with the fact we'd never talk again and get used to it.

I hope she can get some help and move on from this to someone who will treat her better. It's hard to move on to a healthy relationship when you have serious trust issues(and REASONABLY SO!). True I became an addict(purposefully)after the man I waited for for 9 months(prison) randomly abandoned me and left, stole my car and got back with his ex. Found out he had cheated on me numerous times and was using me for sex,money and unconditional love. I had loved him so much my heart was shattered. I felt like if i didnt use drugs I would have killed myself. Thats all in the past now. Im married and happy with an honest man who treats me well. Im almost 4 years clean as of today.
