Love the channel man! Raced when I was younger from 86-99. Bikes I've had 86 cr 80,89 yz 125, 96 kx 250, 92 cr 500. Pismo, glamis, hungry valley, LACR circuit. Them be the days. It's all four strokes now. No one saw that comin.
Had an 85 yz80 in my upper teens. Was pretty amazing at the time lol Water cooled, smooth power delivery, very controllable and the thing just had some crazy low end power... Hill climbs with friends, watching them all hop off while I putted up deep forest hills was amazing!
Currently [slowly] restoring a 1980 YZ125. it's about 80% done.
That's funny, mine was an 88 and I remember it having the worst but most fun powerband of any of my minis. It only made power at like 10,000 rpm and it wasn't smooth, it was a light switch haha. If you tried to keep the revs down it would grumble and you could tell it hated it. Still was a badass little bike. Had been ported, bored up to 106 or somewhere around there, a dg exhaust, carb, Tony doukas reeds etc. Definitely a sleeper. Nothing like my current restoration project (89cr250) but it held its own against a few newer and bigger bikes.
@Brian Robinson sounds like the same order I did mine haha. After it was bored out it only wanted to run at high rpms but run it would! It was a scary little bike for sure.
Man that collection is impressive wish I would have kept all my magazines and sales materials over the years. You may have the best moto archive around the articles you can write with that treasure trove of information.
Cool brochure , I had the 1988 Yz 80. Never understood the hate for that bike. Mine was really fast. Raced my friend on his 88 kx 80 very similar. Both stock, he said he though my bike had better mid. Other friend had a 1989 Cr 80 best top end no doubt, best times fast 80's in the 80's . Miss it, thanks for the look back.
Another excellent video full of great insight. Would love to see more like this. Thanks for making the effort to do these for us viewers.
Thanks for the video. I remember how pivotal that bike was for Yamaha at the time. My high-school buddy Jeff had a brand new '88 YZ250 at the time. Later, my brother had an '88 YZ490 that he used for hill climbing. Please make more videos. Do one on the WR line.
Good stuff man. I grew up in the 70s. Just picked up a 88 kx 125 in great shape. I ride it alot!! Thank you for all your info man !
The 80’s were my heyday of riding so I enjoyed this. I had the 250 and it was a great bike! Glad you mentioned that chain guard..... My God! Clacka-Lacka !!!!! My buddies could hear me coming a mile away as I chased every Deer in the woods away!!!!!!!
Thank you! I am enjoying your videos. I raced that era of bikes when I was young and still racing them now in pnw vmx.
These vids are awesome 💯
Thanks loved this 🙌🏻
My first dirtbike was a 86' yz 80..i rode it until I broke it lol it was great fun first bike!
Im not a serial subscriber, but you've earned it! Fine job, sir.
Yep, liked it do more.
Cheers from Sweden
My best friend had a KX 80 1986 model.
I had the 87 YZ80 he thought my bike had better mid-range I could win in Drag Race every time I felt his bike stood up in the turns.
It definitely sucked up the pumps better & had better top end rpm.
I was definitely the small guy so this bike fit me..
WE ARE LOVE MOTOCROSS ❤❤❤👍👍👍
Had one. 88 yz250 Wish I knew then what I know today about tuning one, but overall, it was a pretty good woods bike for the 90's when I bought it used.
I love these videos!! I'de like to see one on the 95 cr line up and or the 93 kx line up.
When I was a kid I LOVED super Motocross magazine! If you have any of those I'd love to see a video on one!!!!!!
The08450 I am planning to do one I have ever issue of Super Motorcross
Awesome !!!! As a kid id cut out every picture of a dirt bike, add or photo and put them on the wall. The walls in my room were covered ceiling to carpet!!!
The08450 mine too. My whole bedroom wall was a tapestry of pictures from motocross magazines
I loved the 125 but after that I had a 89 250 with the upside down front fork ! Was a really good dirt bike 🙏🏻.
Have you by chance the brochure for a Suzuki DR 250 z 1981 - 1985 ?
Yamahas rule
Raw colored motor...Awesome.
Do you have a video about the 86 KXs or the 82 RMs? Great, unique channel!
My first mx bike was a 1988 YZ125. It was a cool bike.
I had the 89'yz 125. That powerband was a beast. And upside-down folks. Woh, lol. All my dirtbike friends were jealous of that.
Can u do some mid 90s mx bikes
You ever seen the movie the dirt bike kid from the 80’s. You look like him grown up
Hard to believe that Yamaha didn't use disc brakes on the rear of a 490.
god the 88 yz looked so sexy. love your channel
Wife threw out all my collections 20 years ago. Going back 1975-2000.
Hey Bud, have you done this with a 2000 yz125,or a 99 kx250? Enjoy your videos ! I
Not yet
I had a 87 yz250 and ripped everybody apart with it.
It’s funny that they went to upside down forks at 89
Cool video I would like to see one on the 87 cr lineup thanks
Michael Trower I can make that happen!
@@TheMotocrossVault awesome thanks brotha
I would also like to see 87 CR lineup! But what can be said negative about the 87’s 🤔 they totally cleaned house except maybe against kx500
@@jamesbramblett3346 The shocks were crappy, that is about it!

Do you have a brochure of the 87 KX’s? I still have my KX125 1987.
Yes I do
The Motocross Vault Nice you don’t happen to sell them do you? And ship?
I had an 87 yz 125 and I thought the suspension was OK.
125 Brrrraappppp
🎥👍👍👍👍👍
Dont fool yourself Tony those yz 80s hauled ass the cr wasnt that much faster
That YZ80 was a dog...no I take that back. It was a dog with fleas. The suspension was a hold over from 1983. The rear REFUSED to budge on square edged stuff. Nick name around the track was "Mono Rock" suspension. It was a KX80/CR80 world by 1988 and this thing wasnt remotely competitive. I switched to CR80's in 1985 and never looked back at my old YZ's.
Its pretty obvious you don't like Yamaha
Those Yamahas sucked back then. There were very few riders who raced them
