These video presentations are very important, so many lessons to learn (again) and it is a shame that some of those lessons were very quickly forgotten in favor of cutting the numbers.
I worked for (then) Brig Freer on 2 occasions. He was definitely 'Old School', a massively hard task master who did not accept being told something was impossible. I still have nightmares about the Brigade tab he took us on around South Cerney when the jump and insertion march was cancelled on an exercise! I can only imagine what he was like when driving an assault home.
I heard that he refused his initial frontal attack to go flanking and this is why A Coy took so few casualties. I also heard that his men loved him. I'm ex-4 para.
I wonder if intelligence had been gained about the Argentine 7th infantry coy,s , that they were not a conscript unit so much as more highly trained unit made up of recalled reservists with 12 months training , seems to have been a very tough fight here .
Para battalions never had enough training with artillery units in training in regard to company and battalion attacks. Same with FOO,s at the front line who were poorly trained. All down to cost cutting. Paras are the best in the British army due to the good training of corporals who in general have good common sense and light weapon skills. GPMG in SF is a fantastic help in battle and good motor teams but everyone should be trained to call in this support fire. Fighting in the Oman war the FOO actually got shot six times by bringing in jets too close, obviously more training needed. The combat medics should also be trained to a higher level being able to give transfusions at the front line. Seen too many dying in evacuation before getting to the surgeon, Americans do the job better. PS bring back the digging tool amazing how a shallow trench stops shrapnel wounds.
What era are you talking about?? None of what you say is correct apart from training with the arty more, and that was not down to cost cutting. It was down to other factors. Our medics were and are as good as any across the pond. Don't talk shit about things you've seen in films.

The review given by this Commanding Officer is outstanding and professional, and I hoped used in future training of the British Army, I wonder today with all this PC business whether we could be as good as the Para's training during the 70's God help us if we ever believe that women will able to cope with this type of warfare.
they didn't have fussy journalists in the 70's providing anti-propaganda at every training casualty... not to mention bullying, initiation ceremonies and other wartime practices... people forget what it was in the sixties loosing colonies left right and centre! Can someone help me about a (series of?) documentary(ies) where Falklands Veterans were interviewed in the later 1980s. I've got some of it mixed up in my head with a Yorkshire TV documentary but two people who I can remember being interviewed were: A Para Captain or Lieutenant who at the time of the Falklands had been a corporal and at the point of Goose Green was concerned about his brother. Then Denzel Connick was interviewed, and he mentions losing his leg to a mortar round. Just at the point where he is going to get emotional about the cooks who were the stretcher team leaning over him to shield him from incoming fire his inner squaddie takes hold, and he takes the piss out of the cooks.
These memoires were likely filmed in 86,re counting the experiences from the war of 82....very interesting to have watched these episodes today....sat here at home with covid...
i know it's childish of me and he is recounting events in which men were killed but did anyone else have a little giggle to themselves when he says "the c/c had told me not to expose myself.."😁😆🙏

I found this to be an excellent example of first class leadership and military execution. Civilian business management schools should take note.

R patrol company guys spent nights on longdon on recce patrols we in fact had a patrol that was wee'd on while laying about 4ft from an enemy pup tent

The Argentinians were not initially going to take 155 Artillery and unfortunately the British didn't.

They have got the year wrong......it was in 1982.I believe it was between March and June.
The Argentinean s invaded on April 2nd 1982, and surrendered on June 14th.
