I was there at the beginning in the early 90's and it is one thing to change the sound a little over time but this is a completely different band altogether. Efectivamente. Regresaron a lo que hacían de 16 a 20 años atrás. De muy buena calidad, pero siento que están en un estancamiento desde el "Le Fleur du Mal".
A mi el theli y el vovin marcaron la cúspide de su carrera, después fue reencauxhe, declive, un despacito sinfónico pero desde el 97 nada que valga tanto la pena como para asombrar.

I took some songs from it to my playlist and now listen to them often. However listening to the whole album one more time is not something i want to do.

I used to listen to this band like 13 years ago as a teenager just randomly remembered them today , and omg did I miss it , words cannot express how much I love this song.
For me Theli and Vovin were pure masterpieces. When the is still unknown to all. As i remember to record a Theli the producer had to sell his posche. Old the when creativity is out of world.
agreed. Drums on SOTR, Lemuria/Sirius b, and Gothic Kabbalah blew my mind. After that the new drummer wasn't as metal. Now with Snowy Shaw on drums we are back to some amazing drumming.

They did mention it will be a 'best of' album taking cues from the most popular songs and records from their discography, so I think the direction is pretty spot-on for this track.
So I listened to it for at least five times, and I still love it. As an old Therion fan, I just love that this sounds like the old stuff, with the choir in the background and sopranos in the front... they all sound like trained musicians that are coming from the classical ground. No more guys from the metal scene that try to sound as classical musicians. Don't mind mister Snowy or mister Thomas, but I just think that this fits better with Therion. This is the Therion I love and always will!
Uh... Thomas literally is a classical musician, he's performed in Swedish opera, as well as many musicals. Plus, he will obviously still be featured on the new album in a major way.
@@Anetron1 Ugh... I just don't like his vocal style in the Therion context. Is a good voice for heavy metal, but I think it doesn't fit that well with the more... "ethereal" side of Therion. That's why I feel more fitting this style. Probably is just me... but... yeah... I would've preferred for example Messiah Marcolin on vocals. That would be something. Don't get me wrong, I got nothing against this gentlemen. I just wish someone else would've handled the Therion vocals department.
@@warphalak what do you think about Mats then? Cuz he's got a much more "metal" voice than Thomas. Like, Thomas mostly does operatic vocals on Sitra Ahra and only operatic on Beloved Antichrist. That's kind of why I think he's pretty much the perfect singer for Therion, because he can do both metal and opera equally well, compared to Mats or Snowy who were limited to metal.
@@Anetron1 I liked Mats Levén too man, even if his voice is not as flexible as the one of Thomas, or even Snowy. I don't like mister Shaw's voice here either... I don't know, there's something about that deep vibrato in their voices that throws me off... (akshully, I think a too deep vibrato kinda annoys, me in general... hm...) However, I liked what mister Shaw did in Notre Dame, a bit more unique, if I may say so. Anyway, it's probably just a question of taste. All of these guys are accomplished singers.

Seems like the new album might be a return to middle Therion. Which would likely please those who mysteriously had a problem with the material from Sitra Ahra to Beloved Antichrist. Personally I've loved everything and can't wait to get my ears on the new album.
I like all therion albums but without Kristian Niemann the guitars are not as good. The Niemann era plus Vovin and Theli are a little better than the after Niemann stuff. Though there are other factors- the choirs used aren't as good as Deggial, SOTR, Lemuria/Sirius b choirs. The drummer was good but a little more boring. I mean everyone in therion is good but the Niemann era was amazing people.

However, it's a pity that the band doesn't adapt to modern requirements, such as lower tuning and more progressive sound. We can love the classic sound of Therion, because we are old fans, but the music market has requirements that Therion needs to have in order to compete and earn money from selling albums.

Of course they used higher tunings on the subsequent albums but even on Gothic Kabbalah they had some downtuned guitars. Not to mention the odd time signatures of some of the songs on that album, even a bass solo! I also enjoyed the Les Fleurs Du Mal album as well! 😁
