Yamaha 510V had one P-Rails in the bridge - but instead of the Triple Shot with 4 settings (rail, P-90, parallel, series), they opted for a strat-style switch with only 3 settings - omitting the parallel. The series is hot and muddy. I prefer the parallel for general use.
I'd agree that it's better to try different strings before considering a different guitar. The right strings make a big difference. I'm okay with Super Slinky's or D'Addario XLs. They work for me.
Regret comes into play only when the time for self-correction has passed. Before that is only faux (or potential) regret - which is really an indication of the opportunity to correct.
A micro-tilt system might be designed but the production cost to make available far outweighs the possible need to adjust - and the results are detectable inferior. It makes perfect sense to me that the feature was removed from production. I have the micro-tilt system on an American Stratocaster and an American G&L ASAT and have adjusted each for optimum angle. Any loss in sustain is not so noticeable as to tempt me to assess. Each was bought used at a discounted price with little to no notice of impact to playability.
Bingo is a great family Christmas thing we do. Buy a bunch of stuff like scratch off lotto tickets and beef jerky and wrap 'em. Winner gets to blindly grab a present. Fun for all ages.
The 40/8’s are great on a twelve string. Been using the Ernie Balls’s for well over a year on my Rickenbacker 360/12 with a RickySounds wide and narrow nut. Way more playable.
I bought a firefly 335 style in maple burl veneer for my son a couple years back. There were only two frets that were high.. I set it up with low action and it plays great.
Phil, PRS extols the theory that "anything that touches the strings is God" so they have brass everywhere except the nut, do you think a brass nut on a PRS will make THAT MUCH of a tonal difference?
After 2008 I was in a great place financially in my early twenties and cleaned house on music instruments and collectables and sold a lot of it during the boom for gigantic ROI.
That’s one way to do it, or you could have put money in a SP 500 fund for the same time period and got a huge ROI, granted you got to play them, but it’s also work trying to find buyers
Variances in the magnetic field generated can affect the sound to the point of being audibly detectable. Even the most fastidious adjuster may be duped into expecting that variance to be detectable by others. The passive magnetic field as a component of a pickup is the greatest contributor to the size (strength) of a 0field. Other physical factors must be taken into account as well in order to assess magnetic field shape. Proximity to the moving potion of reacting mass (string) is a function of both strength and shape of a magnetic field.
@colinburroughs9871 Nope, the economy sucks right now. Went from buying whatever i wanted a few years ago, now I'm barely scraping by pay check to paycheck (after yearly raises, too).
I actually just sold 5 guitars on reverb and "thinned the herd". I asked fair prices and got prices I was happy with on all of them. Ive actually never had such an easy time selling guitars on there. Before I'd be waiting months but they were ALL gone in under a month and a half.
This matches my recent experience. I would say that sellers are a bit high in expectation right now, and buyers are a bit low, but being reasonable lands me somewhere in between.
I know that I'm late to the party but I've loved the audio podcast for a long time. This is my 1st venture to the RUclips version. What is the story and your opinion of SWR amps ? I started on bass is in '82. By the '90s through 2021 I mainly played guitar. I had a massive stroke in December 2021 and my guitar days came to an end. For whatever reason my bass playing has gotten better than ever. Wanting to get back into the game, I dedicated my time to being a bass player exclusively. Anyway, I picked up an SWR Workingman 12 combo. AMAZING AMP. What is your experience with SWR ? Is there a story as to why the company is no more ?
How does the Piezo compare to something like the Boss AC-3, for versatility and comparable to the real thing? Playing your favorite guitar, or a better guitar with a pedal, rather than having to switch guitars, where is the benefit in those options?
I took down all my listings that I was looking to sell. It’s a black hole out there right now for selling used gear. Unless you give it away no one even makes offers. Never had that problem before. And I always try to have lower prices. I will either trade them in maybe or store them and try again next year.
I guess its a little too techie to point out that magnetic fields follow the inverse square law. Suffice it to say that a little more distance causes a much bigger drop in the field strength than a simple linear relationship.
Hey Phil do you think that Piezo blended with humbuckers could be a good substitute for a archtop? Love The PRS neck and smaller bodies and would seem to be a great option for fusion gigs but not sure if it could handle solo and standard gigs
So we're essentially saying that with Firefly you can get a decent electric guitar for the price of a good hardshell case. We must be living in Candyland. 🍬🍭
With the large number of artist guitars and the tendency for artists to trade guitars, isn’t it possible that we might get the same guitar as different artist models? What if Joe Bonamassa traded Amos to Slash and Epiphone offered to make a Slash Flying V?
Hey Phil, I know you like the channel Darrell Braun Guitar. He hasn't posted a new video since April. He disappeared. Do you know what happened to him?
I love and prefer flats on all my electrics....especially prefer a wound G...Flats are just easier on the fingers and quieter moving around on the fretboard.. p.s...they are not cheaper. I pay $20 from Sweetwater for a set of D'Addario 11's. Anyhoo...indeed it's a preference.
18:50 Hmm, Live video, right, okay so, are you giving props to FireFly guitars or? We think Firefly JSN guitars are awesome, because they sound great too, not just the appearance. And I still think they might have just trolled you! PS: The first one we bought, a spalted maple FF338, sounds great, "good" she says...and I seem to remember it was only about $140 back then! (circa 2019?) PPS: If we check the top inside the pickup area (again?) then I'll try to film it. Bottom line: I'm glad to see a recent video on these guitars. (going over to retrieve my FF Buckethead;)
I had a prs hollow 2. The pre amp started acting up producing a loud hiss. Getting access to the board is almost impossible. Prs will fix it for $500 plus shipping to and from, i.e. close to $1k. Well, I was able to fix it myself, turns out it was a bad capacitor.
I love ya Phil and I love the show but screw you for that pocket knife game 😂 I can never remember to carry my pocket knife. I'd lose that game every time without fail
I use a PJB C4 & C2 mated to a dark glass e500 head. The cabs totally handle the low B, it just depends on the bass. It gets loud and full with clarity in the lowest notes. My Pedulla MVP and MTD super 5 sound awesome; my Sadowsky P5, not so much (the P5 sounds better through a mark bass combo 12").
The MTD is perfection but I also bought a Squier Jaguar bass with a single MM pickup for around $150 that is one of the best bases I've ever played. Phil says it all the time but the quality of inexpensive guitars is on another planet than it was in the '90s when I got started.
Reverb ? I avoid it, why? Every time i found sommering interesting on reverb at a good price, it also set a huge amount on shipping, even for very light and small items.. There is something terribly wrong there, like people making a profit on the shipping amounts ..
Reverb Outlet rules. I just got an LTD EC-01 for 850 new, 25% off. Welcome back to reality price-wise if you want me to buy a new guitar. It's a single pickup LP Jr with no binding, how is it listed for $1099? F outta here with all that. No one will buy used gear until it's like 50% retail. I see a guy's charvel for 650, hasn't moved in almost a year. I almost bought it months ago. On a tangential note, I always sell my guitars within a week because I'm very detailed and personal with my sales copy. It makes people excited and brings the guitar to life, makes me seem like a good owner who's detail oriented. Everyone else copypastes the site specs or writes 2 sentences and seems very impersonal and apathetic, including no details, no mention of what it does well, no string height, not even the weight of the guitar which is extremely important. They deserve not to sell.
D’Adarrio strings suck. Every time I put a pair on and give them a try they break within a week. Ernie Ball, Paradigms and this is not hyperbole never break they die before they break.
Let's understand statistics. Inflation is defined as too much money chasing too few good, which you had from 2020 through 2023. 1. Macro economy. 2. The excessively printed currency caused overspend on, as Phil calls it,....... Luxury items. But we do love them...... Until we realize we don't. In terms of the high end stuff. I always buy used. Come to think of it, all my guitars are used. I do have a private stock, but I can't imagine paying 13k+ for one new. I suppose I need to go to med/law school because my salary isn't keeping up. LOL
No amount of looks make up for a poor playing guitar or one that doesn't sound good. I actually prefer a plainer guitar. A fancy Strat looks out of place, if you know what I mean. Insider guy = Mole
Phil I love you, BUT, I’d rather listen to your wife’s voice😳😬. So sultry and smooth, such a huge dichotomy between the two voices it makes me laugh 😂 sorry😅 don’t change anything tho (unless mic), I really do love this pod😬🙏🧛♀️🦞🐐🥸🤪
Wow that's hilarious put your pedals in a mesh sock hanging on the closet..... Great way to sample your pedals..... I have a pedal board that is pretty flexible and right now I have 8 pedals on the board..... 5 pedals on the front and 3 pedals in the effects...Furman I bought years ago. .....external a looper and A/B switcher.......... I usually never use alot of pedals.....more guitar and amp....... Yeah we all need to sell a few guitars for cash no one has enough money....... thinning the herd is getting rid of your collection, even if you didn't play them all.....even if you dont want to sell any!
Yea guitar camps.....how about guitar clinics....at guitar town copper mountain .....best of the best.... 3 days of concerts and morning/ evening clinics and performances..... Bring it back John Jorgenson!
Food for thought. I get the logic of saying “the binding looks great”…for a $200 guitar, but the problem is if you leave out the second half of that statement, people get the wrong impression and think they are getting something exceptional at a budget price. In reality they are getting a good budget guitar. It can be unintentionally misleading. Just my opinion.
@@216trixie"for the price", which imho is mostly redundant because every decent reviewer and most reasonable buyers adjust their expectations to that price context anyway. Great $200 binding doesn't have to be as perfect as great $2000 binding. Great is relative, not absolute.
I think it's Phil who has a video of him going round Namm asking brands how to pronounce their name. The curious inconsistency is that D'addario say they're dah-dar-io, no if's no buts, but the lady on the D'Angelico stand insists it's Di Angelico, then later says or Dan-gelico. Its odd (to me) that they differ, but that's what they call themselves.
@@216trixie you can choose to believe whatever you like. I think it's incredibly unlikely that if you ask a company representative for the official pronunciation of their name, that they're going to give the "wrong" (as you insist) answer first and the "right" answer a belated paused second. They'd say "it's X, but we don't mind Y", not the other way round.
@@PaulCooksStuff if you listen to the interview again, she basically did say that. She was being polite. Dan gelico Duh-dario Duh-quisto Remember the name of Mike Tyson's manager? Cus D'amato
@@216trixiethere are dozens of videos on D'Angelico's own RUclips channel where they pronounce it Di Angelico. As I said above, it doesn't make sense to me, but it is inarguable that they call themselves Di Angelico. If you want to go tell them that in your opinion they pronounce their own family name wrongly, be my guest. In the meantime, they call themselves Di Angelico and how they pronounce their family and company name is all that matters. Goodbye.
What do you think Artificial Intelligence (Ai) like on phones begins to be integrated into amps? You can just describe the tone and it will figure it out for you. You could just talk to the amp like a band mate to get the sound you want. Auto backup tracks and looping. Future could be bright for solid state amps.

Regret comes into play only when the time for self-correction has passed. Before that is only faux (or potential) regret - which is really an indication of the opportunity to correct.
Knife collector here. I would LOVE a Know Your Gear SAK!
I’m pretty sure a PRS HB iI Piezo can win a lot of fights
I bought a firefly 335 style in maple burl veneer for my son a couple years back. There were only two frets that were high.. I set it up with low action and it plays great.
I got a Backpacker or camping model Swiss Army knife when I was 14. Swiss Army knives are cool.
If you see something you want on reverb make a low ball offer. You will be surprised how many folks will accept the offer.
The reason reverb has so many listings is because people are selling in order to pay bills. Now is a great time to buy.
Ohh
I saw the news and it said it's fine!
@colinburroughs9871 Nope, the economy sucks right now. Went from buying whatever i wanted a few years ago, now I'm barely scraping by pay check to paycheck (after yearly raises, too).
Try splitting the humbuckers. Just did it; it’s a pain but you get a new family of sounds from your PRS. The SE I mean
The SE I mean
What may be helpful to understanding sufficient to guide adjustment is a way to visualize the magnetic field in real time.
21:12 I really like firefly guitars, I really want the new ghost tele looks awesome
I’ve never entered because I’m in Aus, but now I will.
I bought one using the affiliate link so hopefully you got more credit than for 1
Happy Belated Birthday!!
Thank you!!
Maybe I’m wrong but I also see more “companies” listing things on Reverb than before. It’s advertising as much as actual selling
Thanks Phillip 🤟
Hey Phil do you think that Piezo blended with humbuckers could be a good substitute for a archtop? Love The PRS neck and smaller bodies and would seem to be a great option for fusion gigs but not sure if it could handle solo and standard gigs
Why wouldn't it handle smaller or solo gigs?
So we're essentially saying that with Firefly you can get a decent electric guitar for the price of a good hardshell case. We must be living in Candyland. 🍬🍭
Whatever happened to that French electronic guitar with all the effects? I'm surprised you didn't pull it out as a "Swiss Army Knife"?
With the large number of artist guitars and the tendency for artists to trade guitars, isn’t it possible that we might get the same guitar as different artist models? What if Joe Bonamassa traded Amos to Slash and Epiphone offered to make a Slash Flying V?
Phil every time I restrung my high e string ends up sounding like it’s muted. It’s all my guitars I don’t understand what the deal is
Hey Phil, I know you like the channel Darrell Braun Guitar.
Comment of the week: "Doogle Dog - The problem guitars solve is not having guitars." :-D
Gibbs' Rule #9 "Never go anywhere without a knife".
What about a ToneMaster VibroLuxe or Bandmaster?
GHS will make custom set of strings for you.
I'm gonna start a guitar channel named "Knives And Watches".
I love ya Phil and I love the show but screw you for that pocket knife game 😂 I can never remember to carry my pocket knife. I'd lose that game every time without fail
LOL so the take away is to go barefoot and buy guitar gear! 1:19:00
Blue PRS hollow bod looks great😮❤😊sounded great 2,awesome acoustic wow.😮
I use a PJB C4 & C2 mated to a dark glass e500 head. The cabs totally handle the low B, it just depends on the bass. It gets loud and full with clarity in the lowest notes. My Pedulla MVP and MTD super 5 sound awesome; my Sadowsky P5, not so much (the P5 sounds better through a mark bass combo 12").
Ohh, $$
I acquired every piece of gear I've ever wanted recently. GAS has been an evil master. I've finally broken its spell and slowed down.
Inside spy is called a mole.
Philly ChrrseSteak. 😀
I have 3 strats with micro tilt. Never touch it
Been carrying a pocket knife since i was 4 years old. It was required in our household
D’Adarrio strings suck. Every time I put a pair on and give them a try they break within a week. Ernie Ball, Paradigms and this is not hyperbole never break they die before they break.
LIKE/COMMENT/SHARE... Done. Spreading the love. ❤
People are broke, and are selling guitars that the would otherwise keep. It's about to get much worse.
It's Monday night and you were/are correct. The stock market just dropped about $1 trillion in value. 😕
Phil-General nerd
Let's understand statistics. Inflation is defined as too much money chasing too few good, which you had from 2020 through 2023. 1. Macro economy. 2. The excessively printed currency caused overspend on, as Phil calls it,....... Luxury items. But we do love them...... Until we realize we don't.
In terms of the high end stuff. I always buy used. Come to think of it, all my guitars are used. I do have a private stock, but I can't imagine paying 13k+ for one new. I suppose I need to go to med/law school because my salary isn't keeping up. LOL
The term is mole
No amount of looks make up for a poor playing guitar or one that doesn't sound good. I actually prefer a plainer guitar. A fancy Strat looks out of place, if you know what I mean. Insider guy = Mole
Phil I love you, BUT, I’d rather listen to your wife’s voice😳😬. So sultry and smooth, such a huge dichotomy between the two voices it makes me laugh 😂 sorry😅 don’t change anything tho (unless mic), I really do love this pod😬🙏🧛♀️🦞🐐🥸🤪
Fun?! Never heard of her.
Guitar Center competing with Sweetwater…..nose candy versus real candy
Food for thought. I get the logic of saying “the binding looks great”…for a $200 guitar, but the problem is if you leave out the second half of that statement, people get the wrong impression and think they are getting something exceptional at a budget price. In reality they are getting a good budget guitar. It can be unintentionally misleading. Just my opinion.
What is the second half of the sentence?
@@216trixie"for the price", which imho is mostly redundant because every decent reviewer and most reasonable buyers adjust their expectations to that price context anyway. Great $200 binding doesn't have to be as perfect as great $2000 binding. Great is relative, not absolute.
Phil is the MacGyver 🇨🇭🔪of guitar RUclipsrs😅
How do we get a cocaine amp?
Im pretty sure it's at Guitar Center. lol
Dan-gelico
I think it's Phil who has a video of him going round Namm asking brands how to pronounce their name.
The curious inconsistency is that D'addario say they're dah-dar-io, no if's no buts, but the lady on the D'Angelico stand insists it's Di Angelico, then later says or Dan-gelico. Its odd (to me) that they differ, but that's what they call themselves.
@@PaulCooksStuff I listen to that interview with the lady. She was being polite. She knows the correct pronunciation.
Dan gelico
Duh-dario
Duh-quisto
Remember the name of Mike Tyson's manager?
Goodbye.
Plain not standard when referring to flat wound strings
Ohhh
What is filming a video? Film?
What do you think Artificial Intelligence (Ai) like on phones begins to be integrated into amps? You can just describe the tone and it will figure it out for you. You could just talk to the amp like a band mate to get the sound you want. Auto backup tracks and looping. Future could be bright for solid state amps.
