Is the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x worth it in 2024? In this video, I'll share my honest review.
I bought these headphones brand new with my own money, nobody paid me to say the feedback I give in this video. I own enough headphones to know what I'm talking about.

YaBoyRilo thx g
Your a legend
Thanks dude.
3:31 10 foot long non-detachable cable. The information I wanted. Thanks.
I mean, the detachable one that M40X and M50X isn't that great either. It's proprietary and M40Xs don't come with a standard 1.2m one, so you have to get another $25 for that.
Good review. Just bought these headphones based on your review and critiques on the higher end brothers of this model.
11:35 onwards was what I experienced on the m30x when I auditioned it at a store earlier. I liked how I can be engaged with my music and not want to take them off. I just stood there rooted for 25mins listening. Thank you for this review.
I do hope I get these always wanted to try those kind of headphones
So, do you got it?
So true about M30Xs being on the fragile side. My musician friend has broken one o the hinges but I really hope no damage can be done if they are dropped off the table while folded. And, yes, they really are a nice sounding headphone; everyone checking out mine says that as well. The bass is great, lowest bass is a bit lacking, though. The WESC Bass that most people hated have the most balanced overall lows I have heard so far if hooked up to the right source.
PLEASE ANSWEAR!!!
I want to by refurbished M30X's but how do they sound now,are they holding up well?
I just found these brand-new online for only $25. Loved the video as well, such great production! Subbed.
where?can i get the link?
is good (open sound) for heavy metal and rock listening? i´d to find a good headphone like philips 2700 with good bass, mids and treble (with open sound/high details, more importante guitars) ? is good for rock?
I think to take ath m30x to create music and mixing tracks. Is it worth taking them or are there other options that are better, at around 70$ ?
What mic are you using it looks nice
What camera do you use?
are that good for guitar ?
Which is better between ath 20x or 30x?
Great review man!
Btw, which one is better? M30x or M40x? Still considering to get one of these two
m30x sound wise or m40x build quality wise
Hi! I'm looking for a headset to play and watch Ytb videos, I don't need a microphone.
I have a UMC22 sound card and I don't know which headphones to take in the region of € 60.
I hesitate between the Audio-Technica ATH-M30X, the AKG K240 MKII and the AKG K240.
Knowing that I own a Logitech G430 is it worth changing?
I bought these because I wanted a great sounding well built at home use pair of cans. Since I got these for in home use I really wanted a fixed wire. The wire is a little long but if that is what it takes to get the fixed wire that's fine. The sound quality is awesome! If you really want to get these to pop use a DAC or a Pre Amp. I do have a pair of Logitech UE 9000 Wireless Headphones I use for "out and about" listening but I think I paid $200 or so for those. I use my ATH M30x's 85% more for less than half the price.
do they have the same sizes? cause i wanna replace velour on ath m30x
A good partner for LGV20,it activates the high impedance mode.
I have the 30s and the 50s. The 50s have a bit more detail in sound and are definitely louder with just a bit more bass. For the price I feel like the 30s are still pretty damn good though. I use both regularly with a dragonfly dac. 👍🏻
Been using these headphones for about 2-3 years now. The only thing that changed over the years that the ear pads have these cracks like the material started to break. Overall still very much usable still doing great, had no repears on it. WORKS VERY WELL. One more thing to mention, not sure if it's just me but I can't have it on for more than 3-4 hours. After that my ears starts hurting and I just have to take a break.
Well, that's normal, specially if your volume is on the higher side. I bought them a year ago, they´re great for the price, the ear pads are holding up so far but I guess those start to break in almost every headphone, unless it's a very expensive one.
would it handle guitar db range?
hi @ODI Productions, does this isolate outside noise? Thanks!
Very well
Do these headphones need an amplifier to be used on an android phone?
I bough m20x a year ago, still solid, hope I can get that m30x :D
That's awesome! I'll announce the giveaway tomorrow so stay tuned :P
any news on an update/refresh to the series?
I guess they came out in 2015, would like to know, then I would wait for it
I highly, highly doubt they will update these headphones to be honest. They have such a long lineup that every headphone has its place already, so they won't be adding Bluetooth or anything to these.
thanks for the competent video man. my dad grew up in the 80's in Toledo, listened to a bunch of metal and that sort. Now that the world's gone to shit and my mom doesn't let him smoke weed anymore he likes to play guitar for hours. guy never went out and got any headphones better than some old sony phones from the early 90's, I think I'm gonna hit him with the upgrade
Give him Grado Labs headphone. They the best sound for Rock music and very detail sounding
another great video as usual.
Appreciate it!
Do you think that it is worth it to buy this while currently having some hyperx clouds/takstar pro 80 since its both closed back
definitely yes, the sound quality is superior
Between the 30x and 50x, which would be best for the highest quality of sound (specifically for music ((mixing, mastering, etc.)))
50x is far more better than these. This one sounds more dull than the 50x and besides, the 30xs noise isolation is not what you are expecting. Its below average
Nice review bro
Bought a pair of these brand new at guitar center just over a year ago today. Ive babied these headphones every time I used them. Right speaker is broken now. They worked perfect last night, after I was done using them I carefully put them away, only to wake up and the right speaker not work anymore. Frustrating to say the least.
I have these. They're great.
haha bro have been waiting for your giveaway for a good while now. can you post more frequently? really like your videos but also really hard to follow you as I'm not sure when the next videos up
Nice review Bro.Started following you on instagram.Do M30x have a good bass??I have been looking for a headphone with good bass. The wire looks annoying though.😝😝
Yeah the wire gets in the way sometimes but the sound quality is pretty unmatched at this price range. Personally I think the bass is awesome on these, very tight and punchy. Could use a little more sub bass boom but it's clean and punchy to my ears.
ODi Productions
So when's the giveaway??
Starts tomorrow! Was busier than I expected today :P
ODi Productions
Hahaha okay👍🏻👍🏻
These are awesome
i have owned then for almost two years now
my solution for the wire- the clip that came with them works good
Bass can be somewhat non-existent sometimes(depends upon the source)
while using a FLAC source for the Aurora Aksnes winterbird (song)
it was crystal clear
Btw nice review
Gursimran Singh Hey bro how do I get flac files?? Do I have to buy them
Does it really gets uncomfortable in long use? Like it feels uncomfortable?
@@yukisohn3182 it doesnt. i am using them in bus while traveling for 3 hours, in last 3 years. didnt have any problems.

Amazing review! Thanks a lot
Yo, Im looking for some over ear closed back headphones with good lows while still being accurate under 100 dollars.
Get these and thank me later :P
can't wait!
Does it have mic?
THIS is the best of all reviews I've been listening to. I'll get a pair for mixing and recording :D
would u recommend them ?
@@KALLIBOY Totally. But then again, the trick for mixing is get to know whatever hardware you use, and work from there.
I'm really hyped for these and considering to buy a pair, but getting one for free would be nice too
This might sound stupid, but where do I plug these into for recording music. Can I use an audio interface or do I need speakers
Nice video(Extra Lights would help)! The ath-m30x looks solid(imo), I hope I win the giveaway.
Are the M30xs better than the akg k92 , if I'm gonna use them with my mobile phone on the go , like using them in the car ? Cause I've heard that the M30xs don't go well with mobile phones due to the high impedance , is this true ?
Manav Bhagia yeah! i have the same question
i bought akg k92 two days ago, and i dont recommend k92. I didnt´like. I´m sending mine back. K92 has a mid-range strange, closed. the sound in these areas stay in background with no pump. it is like a 5$ cans with good bass. the things akg k92 is good are bass, comfort (very good) and it avoids external sound (not too much, but is good). k92 has a little more bass than default cans at this range. i decide to send back this headphone. now i´m interested in M30x or MDR-7506. The problem is that here in brazil these cans are extremelly expensive due to several taxes. Sony mdr-7506 is difficult to find (original/genuine) in brazil ´coz there are lots of pirate in the market. The M30x i found with R$400,00. I paid R$290,00 for the K92. I.e, M30x is more expensive. This link has a comment from guy who didnt like either: www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/5cpg7x/akg_k92_and_their_frequency_response/
@@miramezjr e aí Man,comprou o m30x? É melhor que o k92?
Love this. Can't join the giveaway though.. No Instagram for me. Hahaha
Awww man! Well if you decide to start one in the future, there will be many more giveaways to come
Are they more comfortable on the skull than the m40x?
No they are actually worse (to me) the stock pads are just sucks, I changed it to Hybrid Earpads and it just become super comfy and also the sound is not that punchy bass anymore it has more clarity in mids and highs and I think I am satisfied
These are good with phone?
Yes they're good enough
I am trying to build my first home recording studio on a budget for I am only 14 and don’t make a lot of money. I went to my local music store. The guy there 100% knew what he was saying. He recommended these headphones and the audio-technica at-2035 microphone for voice/keyboard recording (he also recommended a keyboard *the kind that don’t make sounds but you connect to your computer). Sorry for such a long comment but my question is, would you recommend these headphones and microphone or would you say that I could go cheaper and not want to upgrade within montjs
(I know it's an old comment but...) Get an audio interface with the mic otherwise that mic won't even work (unless it's the usb version but I would recomend the normal XLR). Also I'm doing the same as you and these headphones are popping everywhere as recommendations, so I would get them. And the keyboard you're talking about is a midi keyboard or a synthethiser
Br né
try the 40s plis
dosen't the M30 x requires an amplifier for better experience while using an ipod or a smarthphone?
Some headphones require more power than others, and this is measured in ohms. You will not need an amplifier if headphones are 60 ohms or less. You may need to turn the volume up higher on some devices to get good sound, but it should be sufficient. The ATH-M30X is 47 ohms.
dngale41 ok thank you!...
@@dngale41 Thats as ignorant of a reply as it gets... EVERY headphone benefits from and amp and EVERY headphone sound better on a better sistem chain... midfi headphones like m30-50 are usually decent out of pc or a dumbphone, so if you are even considering these overhyped cans, id rather listen to hd201or akg k511/512/514 or even better, find the vintage jewels

Good vid! Most people say that the m40x are the holy grail. So I am curious what you will think of them.
Thanks Dante! The M40x have stirred quite the controversy, so I plan to drop some TRUTH in that review :P
(Spoiler alert: There isn't a wrong choice)
just as a bit of constructive critisism, you should eq your voice and use a de-esser of some sort. i can hear all the air thumps and "s" sounds really loud and your voice is kind of muddy. Grreat review tho!
I've always wondered what a DISHONEST review would contain ? ✌️ Watched 2 ads, paid promotion and still can't find the info I need before I buy these.
The ATH - M30x sounds great just got them what a quality product sounds good with phone, tablet, and I'm sure alot of other devices but I like to listen to them through my stereo A/V with my EQ what a great sound just don't put to much power to them and you will be just fine what comfortable fit for hours the cord says it all QUALITY! That's gonna sound great many

Am I too late for the giveaway?
lol, 2.5 years later

Bro I'm like 5 years late
would you say that the M40X and M50X sound MUCH better than this one? or is this one very close in terms of sound quality??? i wanna get into the better audio game , so far i've only used shitty gaming headsets (Logitech G430 , HyperX Cloud2) on integrated audio , i've been thinking about buying a Soundblaster soundcard for my pc and pick some audio technicas.
The M30X is much cheaper than the M50X in my country and the M40X is only slightly more expensive than the M30X, but if you say the M50X is by far the best sounding one , i'll buy that one , i dont wanna start with low level shit lol.
How are the cloud 2s shit
The quality from m30 to m50 is noticeable, but the price is a lot higher....for beginner music producer or just to listen like an average person, maybe a little more quality, the m30 is the best
If you're just an average I don't think you would notice too much differences in all of those headphones. It's not about the sounding btw it's about the tuning you like, people have different ears and different tastes. I personally owns an M30x but since the stock pads are shit and the sound is kinda V Shape and that punchy bass, I changed it to Hybrid pads I bought online and I was satisfied with the sound I got more clarity in mids and highs well less punchy bass, I say the sound is more flat and I like it. It makes listening to all genre music enjoyable without having too much bass.
I say the best sounding one is M40x with Angled Earpads cause the M40x sound is Flat and with the angled pads it makes the driver point directly into your ear makes the sound even better. I don't own M40x with the angled Earpads I just heard from a lot of reviewer said it's a great setup.
Btw if ur looking for better audio for game I recommend you open back headphones like Philip's SHP 9500 or the dt990 pro they're open back headphones with good soundstage and sound imaging really suited for gaming. They don't have any isolation though cause it's open back. You can just see bunch of review of this headphones in RUclips there's a lot of positive review especially the Philip's one they're overhyped
YOU HAVE PROBLEM WITH CABLE i NEEDED THAT THIS 1 COMES WITH IT dEAL WITH IT BROTHER
Personally, I've loved mine so far
Im watching this video and hear it with ATH-M30X 😂😂

tell me about bass and hip hop songs in this headphone
@@Bi3MaRk These headphones are only suitable if you want to produce music. But to listen to the song it is not suitable because you will find the bass sound is not like the headphones that have been make for listening music.
@@derul880527 oh i see homie . thanks . then wat model of headphone i have to buy . i listen to rap a lot and i love crazy bomb songs a lot . wat is good for me

I use a bass booster on my phone and PC because my ears are already naturally sensitive to high frequency sound, high pitch whines, etc.

Why would you listen to your phone with monitoring headphones? Get some house of Marley.
@@mr.phil.a
I also want to get these headphones to listen to music on my phone because I'm always moving. I know it's not designed for outside use, and the cable is super long, but I really want them because I like my music to be very good quality and I currently use some garbage earbuds. Would you recommend this to me or should I avoid it?
I haven't tried these. But theyre for mixing and production. For music playback I use house of Marley headphones. If you're always moving, consider Bluetooth. 🙂
@@mr.phil.a
Thanks for your reply! I don't like the design of the house of Marley products, and they're a bit expensive so I don't think I'll ever get them, but I don't like Bluetooth very much (actually, never tried tho) but, I think you're right because the m30x cable is very annoying. Thanks!
Sennheiser CX 200 ii precision are amazing. But they are ear buds. I think there might be newer models now?
Is this one of those cases where I just need to spend the extra money on the 50x? I'm not totally against it...
hi, I am a youtube cover musician and right now i am into online collaboration covers. I am a keyboardist. I purchased a presonus hd7 pro studio monitor headphones ion 2016 and it has served me for 5 years now before the cable got severed and the earcups now got cracks (probably due to my sweat). I am looking to get a replacement for my HD4 (but i won't throw it and will find a decent due to recable it soon with braided cable). Now my first choice was the m40X due to its removable cable. but then my eye played a trick on me. i thought for the price i was looking at the M40X when in fact i was looking at the m30X.
My consideration for wanting the M40X badly is because of its removable cable and the fact that it comes with a coiled spare cable. I know for a fact that this m30X isn't a detachable cable type.
After almost 2 years, low quality showing - the bass is blaring, the left phone seems completely broken and I don't listen to anything very loud. Everything is made for short-term use these days sadly.
I used it super roughly ,and using it from last 3 years, everything is superfine, only some cracks on earpads and on band, nothing much.
Maybe you got a counterfeit pair if you bought them online?
A year ago I got a pair of AudioTechnica ATH-MSR7, and I’ve probably dropped them about 4 times now, and these have been forceful falls, they’re still in practically perfect condition. AT is an amazing brand, I’d recommend you get another pair.
Good work, crossing my fingers! Lol

Wow. Talk talk talk talk talk talk about zero before any useful information. But...once he actually starts going, it's good.
Would this useful for Arrenger keyboard like korg pa700?
I have been using them for my Roland keyboard for a couple years, and they show no signs of wear. I think they sound great and find them to be comfortable. The only issue I have is since the cable is long, it lays on the floor, and I roll over it with my chair at times. Sure I could figure something out but haven't tried. Overall, worth every penny.
