They were like a lot of bands at that time, they liked the same stuff basically, but punk had to change, so we got Joy Division, Wire, Crime, and so many many many others, the ones that were doing their own thing were just punks doing there own thing. You can try to catagorize it but you will never be able to. Maybe that’s what the 15th is about?
They have a punk way of presenting themselves but their music is not punk. He kind of puts an act of Ian Rubbish (Johnny Rotten, Mika Riff-raff, Paul Foul) - you get the idea.
At the time (I'm old) people said "They are arty" in a dismissive way. In an interview, when they were asked about this, one of them said "We are not arty. We are doing art".
This was the first time they debuted The 15th. It's still in its early stages and has rougher lyrics and composition overall. I actually prefer this version. It fucking just kicks ass.
They are a great band. So much attracts me to them. Their guitars have always been beautifully distorted and eloquent. Love their lyrics. "Butchered in the mind" is one of many from 154. That album has songs I can't separate as a favourite, they are such art. 154 just may be my most loved album of all time. Right beside the best albums of Reed, Bowie and other greats.
I don't know why, but this is a very moving piece of poetry. I met a traveler from an antique land. Who said, Wire are the shattered Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, etc etc.
I enjoy these actual videos of people REALLY playing their instruments and signing SO much more than all those videos of big stars on pop shows pantomimng through their latest recordings.

Wow, had to play this twice, just to make sure, make sure, sure, where was I when they pl,ayed,? 1979 it says here, this song just moves me. Even at my age.
Totally, I vividly remember when I first heard 154 this track came on and I thought “god it sounds exactly like a Trompe le Monde out take but a decade earlier”. Of course I’d just heard “Two People In A Room”, the previous track, and thought “god it sounds like a daydream nation out take”. I can barely think of a band that have single handedly shaped the sound of indie and alternative as Wire
interesting that the lyrics in this are a bit different than the ones if you look them up... "squared to it, faced to it" inversed etc... and a couple words substituted for other ones.. looks like the album version is not up on youtube, I have this album on CD somewhere, maybe I'll dig it out and compare...
Cómo chucha lo hicieron para adelantarse veinte años sónicos es algo que me pregunto cada vez que escucho este tema o el disco "Chairs Missing" (1978)... inclasificables, indescifrables
bought that album recently...love it.....the Devo cover "Block Head" is also awesome. Oh' I got the 154 reissue and it's pretty flawless. So glad I picked one up

@@BGNOLA I'm far from old myself. Most 21 year olds aren't listening to Wire. Old or not (And you might be on to something because the guy's username is a pokemon reference), it's still obnoxious to be smugly bashing younger people over their listening habits
I am now 66 years old and still find Wire incredibly refreshing...
Ditto. And 67 next week.
Wire never seemed to be influenced by anything else going on at around them. Very unusual band.

Best alternative rock song from 70's
Best band ever!!!
42 años y suena tan fresca, mi banda favorita por siempre y tuve la fortuna de verlos en ciudad de México en el 2019

It is moving - it sits in the mind. Some people interpret it as being about an embryo: others say it's about the gestation of an idea
I love how the chyron tech is like, "The 15th ?" ;)
I noticed it just now after 100 times watching hahahahah

A song literally about nothing!
Wire were more than great, and they still are.
Wire was always on fire. And that's the lowdown.😊

Very strange and good band

Creo que es porque no se ha hecho nada nuevo desde ese tiempo, y muchas bandas replicaron su sonido, también

Soo much better that studio recording, Wire is AMAZING, watch and learn millenials
