    If the Lebron lakers era hasn’t been a success while winning a ring and having another WCF appearance what does that mean for every other team not named the nuggets, warriors, bucks, and raptors?

      That's the thing: for any other team that would be a success. This is the Lakers we're talking about. A Laker success is multiple titles. 1 title since 2019 is great but sprinkled among those years has been season ending injuries, first round playoff losses, missed playoff, etc. Still a success but not statue-worthy/jersey retiring stuff imho. ok, maybe jersey retirement lol.

      @@ernesto8290I can probably answer for him. The reality is he is paid the max for 3 more years, in all likelihood in 2 or at least 1 year of it, he will not provide the ok court value to warrant it. And with how much more restricted the cap is getting, it hurts their chances of putting together a competitive team. And most importantly we already have multiple years of evidence that LeBron + AD + a decent but very good supporting cast isn’t enough to compete at the absolute highest level. They need to go Spurs 2014 model where their old stars are playing 28 minutes a game to save their bodies for the playoffs and also taking pay cuts from the max so they can build a roster that can give them the time to save their bodies and also the talent around them to actually win.
      That Spurs team had the big 3 but also Kawhi, Danny Green, Boris Diaw, Patty Mills, etc they had absolute studs, particular in the playoffs when they really cared.

    • @deifiedtitan
      @deifiedtitan 3 месяца назад +1

      @@GeotuneOfficialThe issue is the contract and cap system. We’re seeing great players play longer and the system isn’t designed to accommodate it. Players that generate BILLIONS for franchises should rightly get a golden handshake after their best days are behind them, but there’s no way to do that without killing your options as a team. Implementing something like a retirement contract; where a veteran can be on any team they played X years for or won a championship for where only the veteran’s minimum is on the books and the rest is whatever the franchise decides to pay might be a good idea. Say the limit is 4 years on it, and the year you stop playing is the year it comes off the books. The retirement part is enforceable, so you’d need to be out of the league after.
      Means that, for example LeBron, could announce his retirement contract with Lakers, Cavs, or Miami. They pay vet min to the salary cap and then whatever they agree goes to Bron. He gets money he deserves based on the money he made those franchises and what he did for them, they get to let that player retire in their jersey and do right by him. Same with Steph and GSW. It’s right that he retire there.

Yes LeBron is a big name star (obviously) but Kobe was the face of the Lakers for a long time and 2nd best or best player for 5 rings over an entire career spent in LA, so honoring him with one last contract at least sort of makes sense because he was a Laker from beginning to end. Wonder if the NBA could institute some sort of ‘doing right by the veterans’ contract where only the vet’s min is on the books and the rest is not part of the cap.
    Let’s say for a player that’s been in the league for a certain amount of time, or with a single team for a certain amount of time, or is announcing retirement, can be given an overblown contract that are only partially included in the salary cap. So when Steph decides to retire, as an example, GSW would likely not want to pay him anywhere close to a max, same with any aging star in the league, but what they did for the franchise is unquestionable and there’s a sense that they should do right by him. Let’s say vet min goes on the books, and then the franchise can give whatever money after the fact. Allows you to retain the old legend you should be paying massive amounts of money to because of how much money they made that franchise while not sacrificing the moment. The expectation at the moment is that old franchise players either get overpaid because they deserve it for career contributions, they eat a small contract because it makes sense for the team, or they go elsewhere because some go nowhere team wants more profit that year.

    The type of team you put around Bron and AD is a skill guard than can run PnR, an athletic POA defender that can shoot 3’s and either a legit big body rebounder that can deal with bigger centers OR another 3-D wing that can attack closeout for “small ball” when AD is at the 5. What you don’t do is put the ball in the hands of a PG that has a similar drive and kick playstyle as Lebron but can’t space the floor… like Westbrook. I blame the FO for that but I also blame Bron and AD for pushing or at the very least supporting it.

    Lebron loves LA and he doesn't want to leave. He's probably not gonna leave. Lakers could/should use that leverage. If he takes a slight haircut, they could probably get Derozan and Caurso or perhaps....PG 13???? He hasn't signed his extension yet. Or a legit superstar this offseason. They have a few first rounders that they could give up in the near future that would be interesting to an opposing team. Anyway, if he demands a Full max at 3 years, the Lakers will not be able to win another championship. If he has ANY real chance of wanting to win another one or having serious chances, a haircut of idk 50 to maybe 30-35/year. That opens the door. A paycut with a another super star and Lakers could be very serious contenders. If it's full max next year and years, that's over 100 million for 2 guys.

  • @thebounceph

    As an organization they should pay Lebron the max regardless if his play regresses or not. The media just makes a big deal out of it just because it's Lebron. He may not be as valuable as his contract but at the end of the day it's business. Lebron pushes the market of a franchise in another level. Taking a pay cut would be great for them to retool but it's not a guarantee they would win a championship. If Lebron takes a huge pay cut and still don't win a championship because of injuries or other stuff, it would be embarrassing for him.

LeBron on the other hand is stat padding and the league cannot lose him because he makes the association and networks so much money (like MJ, Kobe and Bird did).
