    Great video, very to the point! Had the exact problem. Tried to get a new tensioner from the NAPA and Lordco Auto Parts, but it didn't come with the new bolt. My truck had an original tensioner so I ended up at Ford, for the same price, came with the hardware. Ford Part Number 3L5Z-6B209-AA 3L 1995-2000

    I have had that squeak for years, and have replaced both the belt and idler a couple of times. I was befuddled because with a quick shot of WD-40 on the belt it went away. I went out and did the same check you showed, and bingo that was it. My next door neighbor thanks you. She has been listening to that old Mazda Truck start up early in the morning for years.

    My 2002 dodge caravan just starting squealing after driving 3 miles to the grocery store. Never expected to hear what was coming from my caravan, after putting all kinds of work into it less than a year ago. Belt is new. So one of the things spinning On that belt is going out. Day two begins. Thanks again for the idea to check the pullies first.

    Your tensioner was definitely out however I just installed a new serpentine belt on my f150 and then I had a loud chirping noise. I discovered the belt was ever so slightly misaligned. I aligned it better on the alternator and the noise went away.

    I already knew the tensioner is almost more important than the belt itself. I can run 10+ year old quality belts as long as its tensioned well, its perfectly quiet. Get a bad automatic tensioner and no new belt can fix it. Not a common problem for me, as a diyer I only had that once. "New" junk yard tensioner and it was nicely quiet again. (the car wasn't worth doing a lot to).
    I haven't changed a belt in years. I work on cars about the 20 year old mark. They still run great, so why get rid of them.

    Great video! I'm hoping this is the same problem I have with my car right now. My car has been squeaking even after replacing the belt and my mechanic can't figure out why. My car only squeaks/chirps while idle and sometimes when I step on the gas. The squeaks only starts when my car is warm too. It does not squeak while I'm driving. Was this the case for you or was it a constant squeaking when your car was warm?

I didn't do it right away but it seemed like the squeaking stopped after the put the car back together. I did get the 2 of the coil packs and spark plugs replaced in another garage shortly after (way cheaper). The sound hasn't come back since. Whether it was just taking things apart and putting it back together or indeed changing the coil packs and spark plugs, I'm not certain but I'm happy that the chirping stopped :)

  • @1wtrahan
    @1wtrahan 3 года назад

    Never put anything on a belt ,you need a new belt and tensioner ,both should be replace together, this idea may work for short time tile you get replacement parts but not like your doing, this belt is slipping causing tensioner release throughout the system , also belt can slip off pulled causing possible major issues like stranded due to belt taking out radiator cooling line let’s say for transmission, or an electric fan . for less then a hundred bucks in most cases it’s well worth it to replace. Not to mention a tow at about 150 bucks. You can lead a horse to water ,but if no water horse die ( just saying )
