    EXTREMELY HELPFUL! My 02 3.0 is doing that too. I just put a new transmission in it so I thought it could've been something with that but I am so glad I know now. I've been racking my brain trying to find that stupid squeak for a week. Thank you very much

    I had the exact same problem with my 2002 Ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 V6, A squirly bird noise that turned out to be a cam shaft distributor sensor, Got it fixed and runs fine with more power to boot. Thanks, Great video.

    this was my problem too. it happens to the 3.0 v6's all the time. if you guys got one and its squeaking after driving a while then yours is starting to go out. When it fails on you finally your oil pump will stop and you'll blow the engine unless you stop in a few seconds.

    4:32-4:36 and 4:52-4:54 is what noise I've been dealing with for almost 2 years straight. it's intermittent not really loud. no codes. so, I had no idea what it was. I was kinda convinced it was the main bearings... I'll switch it out and update

    • @seannic

      Do you have an update?

    • @scottt89
      @scottt89 2 года назад

      @@seannic I took the sensor cap off and put a little oil down there and it shut up. has to be that. haven't changed it out yet. still not getting symptoms other than intermittent chirp once in a while. no codes, no hard starts/no no starts etc. just chirp. I'll swap it out in the next few months. I'm strapped for time. I'll update though

    • @seannic
      @seannic 2 года назад

      @@scottt89 thanks for the tip! I may do that oil trick myself before I go farther. Mine is doing the same. Nothing but the chirping

    • @scottt89
      @scottt89 2 года назад +2

      @@seannic when you do it, take the sensor cap off and put the screws back in and then add a little oil and let it sit. otherwise it'll leak where the screw holes are and no oil will get in. I probably used 2-3 teaspoons. also look under the sensor and check for damage or debris. mine looked brand new. really strange. after the oil seeps in put the sensor back on and start it and wait. the chirping should quiet down after a few minutes. it'll eventually come back after a few weeks. but, you'll know that's the problem. also, if some of the oil didn't get in put a towel where the bottom of the screws poke out on the neck to catch the extra when you take them out to put the sensor back on. hope that's your problem and everything makes sense.

      *update* installed a new one and the chirp is still there. got curious and tightened the bolt to the harmonic balancer and the chirp got quieter. it's either bad or I need tighten it more. I don't have a tool to hold it yet.

    My 2000 Explorer with the 4.0 pushrod made the noise after startup. The best way to describe it was spinning a nut off a rusty bolt. It was a very dry sounding squeak. Replaced the synchronizer and the noise is gone.

    Curious, I just picked up a new old '08 Ranger today, with a quiet and healthy sounding 3.0L Vulcan engine and overall real clean condition. The main purpose of the truck is to occasionally tow a 19' boat/trailer that likely weighs in 1500 - 1600 lb. I'd like to keep an eye on this issue as it seems to be the fly in the ointment for this engine. 90,000 miles on the clock, but I don't have any mechanical history on the vehicle so I suspect it is likely the original unit.
    Maybe dumb question - do they always make noise before this failure mode, or are they also known to mechanically fail in relative silence? And, what part of this actually lets go when it fails and your oil pump stops? Would it be wise to/is it worth it to replace the unit proactively, or just keep an eye on it? Any tips would be appreciated.

      @Patrick Darling I've done that with an alternator and, until yesterday, a new coil pack on my '00 3.0. Haven't been done with no kiss doing it that way yet, thankfully

      My 2002 3.0 made the exact same chirp. I thought it was just a squeaky belt. I drove it with the chirp. Guess what happened... My engine blew because the oil pump stopped working. This happened right at 100k miles. I need a new engine now. Don't be like me. Don't listen to the guy I the comments saying you don't need to replace anything until you hit 200k miles.. Just replace the part this video speaks of to be proactive, especially if you hear the chirp.

      @Drew-wf7vw 5 лет назад +4

      Tim Mcmillan about a $50 dollar part and takes maybe 10mins to replace.. Don't ignore it, if the sync goes it'll take out your oil pump.. Only real way to destroy a 3.0

    I guess this is a problem with the Ford Rangers? I have a 97 Ford Ranger with only 33,000 miles and it scanned for code PO340 camshaft sensor.
    However, there is no skipping, it the engine purrs, and rides smoothly. But, there is a smell of burnt coffee or burnt toast when it gets warm up!
    the question, how long does this job take?
    The mechanic told me ALL DAY.
    I think I"m being SHAFTED!
    I've watch a few videos on this topic and it looks like 11 minutes to 15 minutes tops. or else the videos have been edited?
    Just need some input from those that have had this experience, on the time and the cost. Thanks

    Thanks for posting. I have a 98 Lincoln with the 4.6 V* and I just had my alternator replaced and started to notice that chirp. What is the risk of not getting it fixed? I can take it to my regular mechanic but he specializes in foreign autos so not sure he's familiar with this issue. (My primary vehicle has been foreign for 15 years but always had a ford SUV and truck).

    I have a noise that is more like a clicking sound that only happens when the car is moving. I thought it was the speedo because I changed it to an Explorer cluster but it didn't happen right away after the switch over but recently with the window down it sounds like it is outside rather than in the cab. The only things that move when you drive are the wheels and the driveshaft and the noise is only there when the truck is moving not when stopped so looking for what to look at. I will try to find the sensor and use my rubber tube to listen to it in the driveway. Thanks for any help from y'all
