There is innovation. Back in the old days iphones rarely lasted even 2 hours on a single charge. Nowadays you can hardly complain about battery life (8-10 hours). Even outperforming most android phones with a smaller battery capacity. And what about the new processors etc? Ofc there is innovation
For a regular user who doesn't play on the phone, and uses it for social media, messages, calls, some pictures, it's more than perfect, I own an iPhone 13 and for me at least it's super enough, my friend has an iPhone 11 which also works perfectly in everyday tasks
12 is still selling new devices and the manufacturing of 2024/7 has not stopped. It will take 3-4 years of support. Starting from this year, it will most likely reach the 21 system. Yes, I had a 12 and I bought another new 12 instead as well.

Upgrade is needed it the phone doesn't work anymore as in black screen or not receiving updates anymore.
