Hugo Leoh ....no, don't use this to learn how to speak. Use this to learn how to understand people who don't realise you're foreign. If you talk like this you'll sound badly educated, stupid, and that you've learnt English from some crappy American films, you don't want that. Speak the best English you can. When you write, don't write in slang, don't write "gonna", write going to. Even if you end up speaking in a slang type of way, the worst thing you could do is write like it. Unless of course you want people to think you're an imbecile.

The next day after I did that, my teacher told me that I shouldn't use "gonna", without knowing that I already did it. I'm still scared of what that person might have thought of me....

Most new comers to a English speaking country face this problem of understanding 'Native English'. So I appreciate this lesson which explains clearly the root cause of the problem. When English become the common language in a country, people modify the way they pronounce. For example, as she explains, 'you' becomes 'ya'. Some times 'hot' becomes 'hut', 'dollar' becomes 'duller' and 'six' become 'sex'. Also when they speak fast, they join two words together without having a gap in between words. But the question is, are these modifications happening in all native English speaking countries the same? I don't think.

I want to share my experience when I studied English at the institute Actually, I didn't like English at the time
I remember, When the teacher said "All of u" so fast and we replied "I love u too" and I'm the one of students that speak so loud
and the other moment that I'll never forget.. When my teacher made listening test He wanted us to write what we heard then finally, came The words of "wish me luck" and you know what I wrote.. i wrote "BISMILLAH" Oh my God
So I'll never forget the pronunciation of the 2 words. How about u? what is your stories during learning English?
