Believe me, I was smitten with a severe case of uncontrollable drooling, particularly while watching you eat the SMOKED char. We so much enjoy your videos, Mr. Larkham. I'm an old man now but while you ate the char, Dad's voice kept ringing through when, as a boy, each meal of fish was always accompanied by warnings, "Mind da bones b'ys, mind dem bones." LoL. We look forward to the next video installment from the Big Land. Thank you.

This is some of the best fish I have ever eaten, worst is this is a very remote place. Hope to get back there again before to to long. This was a dream trip and now I dream to go back :)

I have tried to smoke salmon on the Weber kettle, but I either over salted and or smoked. You have me wanting to try again. Also I am using frozen red salmon not fresh. Some grocery stores say it’s fresh but it’s usually previously frozen. I think I am better of buy it already frozen. More likely caught and frozen right on ship.
Any way I will give it another go and watch the salt/time , smoking time.

Served with a ice cold Coors light, after it is smoked, not many char in Minnesota, haha, ok none that I know of! but I do smoke whitefish, suckers, and tulibee. You are definitely living the good life!, love the channel. I would also love to try seal someday.

Char is my favourite, I have an elderly friend that makes an excellent smoked Bull Trout(Char), similar to your method but he adds demerara, and it is candy!!!
I wasn't quiet sure what demerara was but I guess demerara suger. I must say it sure sounds good....
@@Biglandtrapper Yes, it is dark brown sugar. Before my friend retired he would bring smoked char to work and share a little now and then, what a treat that was! Keep sharing your videos, they are as welcome as eggs and fresh tenderloin for breakfast!!

I noticed you don't eat the skin. Many Omega 3's and 6's are in the skin. I guess that's just my preference. Really like your vids. I ordered a set of the AX-1 Hatchet and BSH4 Dusk Bushcraft Knife.

Be interesting video if you ever had a physical your blood count stat's like Cholesterol level from your diet(what you eat) for other viewer's to compare to versus their diet(foods) they eat. Example, you seem to eat a lot of fish with high levels of Omega 3 in which from a physical a person can look at all there blood count levels and what their range's should be to be healthy.
Loading up on omega 3, you should be good to go come fishing time! Thanks buddy
wow that fish has a very high fat content, you can tell by that belly piece your munching on, looks comparable to our columbia river spring chinook salmon from oregon but looks to be fattier. looks like you better hop back on you snow mobile and go back there. greetings from portland oregon USA

Might be a weird question, but what does curing the fish do to it?
Removes some of the moisture from the fish though I don't like it cured to long to remove to much moisture. There was a time when you want to preserve the fish longer so removing more moisture would be good. Adds flavor and also kills any surface bacteria on the fish..

We always smoke some of our fish using honey as a part of the recipe. It's like eating candy.

I use apple wood chips mostly in the electric smoker & crow berry bush in the old fashion smoker....
Where do you get the charr,in the fresh or salt water?Do you have to have a licence for the like salmon?
Char & fresh water depending on the time of year.. Not a licence like salmon, salmon has to be tagged...
