Regarding the DD8 you should read the user reference manual which holds all the info unlike the incomplete user manual. There is a way to assign each of the left 3 knobs to an expression pedal
In case anyone is wondering, you actually can do the spaceship noises on the dd200 (and therefore, probably the 500 as well). The Time knob reacts differently depending on the algorithm, so it will do it on the analog setting and several others. You can also speed up the rate of change on the time knob by pushing down while you turn. Still probably not as easy to pull off as on an analog delay, but still really fun.
One thing, on the DD8, that most here on you tube reviewer omit: when inserting the extra pedal, you can switch the tap tempo, just like you can do it on the pedal, but you are also achieving an extra effect called TWIST. Also by plugging the cable in different poles, you are getting different settings on the delay extensions. It is a great pedal.
I've had delays from the DD2 onwards. I just love the DD200 and the now discontinued Korg SDD3000 pedal. The DD6 don't get nuff love , too ! Good video !
The big plusses for the 500 over 200 are: far more detail to adjust and the Echoplex & SDE modes. Plus an extra switch. Always handy. Oh, and the screen!
My DD-20 still sounds the best of any of the dozen delays I own! It’s too big for my small live board, unfortunately. I own every delay in this shootout, except the DD-200… and THAT is going to change shortly! ;-) But I really wish Boss would learn how to do a proper Ducking delay… It’s absolutely useless on the DD-200. Maybe have a listen to any TC delay to understand how it should work.
I'm glad you went through some stuff on the DD-200. I got one so I could have a few different settings, but didn't bother checking out everything it does.
The ultra short delays work really well with a chorus / flanger. Seriously fat results especially if you stereo out into a stereo chorus. Great fun. You can do the analogue spaceship on the analogue setting on the DD200.
The Drum is in the DD-500 though, under Echorec 2, not exactly sure what mode it is. Probably under Tape Echo, like the Echoplex and RE-201 are. So it's not unique to the DD-200 at all. You just gotta dive a bit more into the 500.
Out of the DD-8 DD-200 and DD-500 what would people recommend. I have only ever used a very simple cheap analogue delay but I sold that a while ago because it was really crap. Just want to experiment with delay alot now so any info or help would be much appreciated.
Thank you for teaching me how to do the “twist” thing at 54:30! I’m gonna totally have to try this on my DD-200 tomorrow! P.S. what patch cables are you using for the stereo pedals? I was SUPER bummed when my soldered mogami 2534 with sp500s didn’t quite fit together (by literally a millimeter or so). ANY other stereo pedal I have except for my Bosses (like the RC-30) avoids this!
What kind of expression pedal are you using? Is it a footswitch? Momentary or latching? If so, make sure the the polarity is set correctly. If you're trying to control the delay time or repeats you should probably use a universal keyboard volume pedal with a TRS connection. I have a couple M-Audio universal expression pedals and they work fine as a rocker style expression for all my Boss compacts and the GT-1 multi effects. I like the Boss FS-6 because you can use each of the two footswitches on a different Boss pedal. For example I can use my two M-Audios to control parameters on RV-6 and the SL-2 Slicer and I can plug in a couple of TRS cables to control the DD-8 with one button on the FS-6 and the GT-1 with the other.
Just got my new Boss DD3t and it’s sounds great, adding additional tap tempo feature amazing! If your looking for a simple 4-knob single footswitch delay stompbox, I think the DD3t is the better choice.
The DM-2 and the DD-3 are only the right choice when you know you only need one type of delay because for $10 or $20 more you get the DD-8 which has pretty much every delay you’ll need and it is still just as easy to operate. But then, $90 will get you the DD-200 which has tap tempo, tap subdivisions, presets, the twist mode, more customization and some more delays while still being relatively simple to use, so it could be worth it. The DD-500 is a different kind of beast, and probably far too much for most people, but I can see the appeal
@@diamondhead5253 Ah, I get it now- sorry! It's true the DD-200 represents good value. I was thinking of buying a Tera Echo but it's about the same price
You can get the spaceship vibe with the DD8, you just have move the knobs extra slow! You can’t shift them around that quick :) where the DD3 and DM-2 are the best for this and has no issue
If there is one thing I hate about the 500 series it is that the rate knob doesn't speed up the further you turn it. Changing the value of my expression pedal maximum from 20 hertz to 10 hertz takes like 5 minutes.
On my 2 current boards are an '81 DM-2 & DD-8 on the ALL BOSS BOARD, and a DD-200 on the normal board. Also own a DD-3 for my acoustic rig and a DD-20 which I had first and cannot get rid of :) So Sorely tempted to get a DM-2 WAZA for the longer repeats and expression, but when I purchased my original DM-2 for $50, I have a hard time with paying twice as much :D EXCELLENT VIDEO RYAN I LEARNED STUFF ABOUT MY DD-200!
the dd-20 is, in my opinion, the best delay pedal ever made. It sounds amazing. It's got 4(5) presets, which is plenty for most cases. And it's just stupid easy to operate all of the functions, and no menus. The 200 is essentially the exact same pedal, made smaller, better foot switches, extra delay types, and midi functionality for extra presets if you need them - it is NOT a dd500 lite. the 500 is overkill and completely unnecessary in my opinion. And I would not be able to stand not having presets in a live setting, so any of the delays smaller than the 200 are a no go for me - there's nothing wrong with them at all, they sound amazing of course, I just personally need the extra functionality. Eventually I want to upgrade from my dd20 to the 200, just to clear up a bit of extra board space,. and because I really want to have the terra echo sound. But I will never get rid of my dd20, it was the first pedal I ever bought, and I will always love it.

Yes, you can still do the twist. You just stand on the stomp a few seconds, & you exit out of global; a footswitch is your best option tho imo. I think it sounds better, you might too after hearing playback... or I guess you already have by now. I've got the OD-200 & it's the end-all-be-all of distortion pedals. It's really something else when you start stacking drives, & it's got a modular analog drive (or a few?) mixed in with all the digital goodies, so it's really something completely different IMO.

I turn all my delays with the feed back all the way on till it’s max oscillation and sit in the room while I hit ketamine
