It's incredible how I never played the Metroid games as a kid, and yet the classic Metroid theme still makes me feel so nostalgic. Honestly just peak old game music.
This is some of my favourite content from Stephen for a while. I never knew anyone who owned an NES growing up in the UK in the 80s, but I remember what games were like then and so when I first played Metroid in 2008 I immediately had a kind of pseudo-nostalgia for it as a great example of that period. I'm really glad Stephen is playing the authentic originals and ignoring all the people telling him to play the remakes.
9:20 you have run into the same issue I did when I let's played this, what word do I use OTHER than Shaft to refer to the vertical chambers succinctly without it sounding sexual
I remember trying to play the original Metroid on NSO. Got lost after a couple hours and it gave me a headache cause of the way the game looks, I think. Don't fully remember. Super Metroid was great though.
Yeah, a big factor in this game's design is that it creates rooms from _whole screens_ at a time, meaning there's SO MUCH repetition you can't rely on singular landmarks for much of anything.
This is a good game, but this version of the game made me sick as a kid, so I would recommend the Zero Mission version, if anyone wanted to play this game in general.
The layout being for chat in livestream mode, and upgrades for LP mode is honestly a great move.
Love it.
Shout out to DAN for having to cut all of this, you did a great job, sir!

I am that way but with kingdom hearts specifically
I paused this video at 9:20 to go do something, so when I unpaused it, all I heard was "there are three big shafts." Perfect.
Oh chat was reminding him the whole playthrough
The worst part is that as a planet with multiple vertical areas, you can liken them to ventilation shafts. What else can you call it?
Dread has to be my favorite. Normally I don't like die hard modes, but the movement was so good that I 100% Dread Mode.
NES Metroid? Time for some retro jank.
Ah yes. An iconic sprawling adventure where if you wanted a map, you had to draw it yourself.
I love the way the patreon names are edited in
Oddly enough, this is one of my favorite Metroid games. There's just something about it that feels right.
Played through this game myself a few years back with my mom who played in the 80's but never finished it. Hope it was a blast for you too, Stephen!
i would love to see a super metroid lp

Who will win? Stephen or 3 shafts?
….it was 3 shafts
Stephen got Nintendo'd 😂 gotta love the old school NES game jank and unfair deaths.
First one I ever played was Dread. Loved it and played Fusion and Prime after. Hopefully they make Prime 2 and 3 for Switch or the next console
Prime 2 and 3 already exsist on the Gamecube/Wii/Wii U
The other novel concept with game design with the morphball.. is you go LEFT to get it. Which.. most games stuck you going nothing but to the right
This is so cool to see!
I don't think I've ever finished this game, it was brutal for me.
Still a fantastic start to a great series
hiiii
new sub!
i love your videos! (nintendo wasn't lying back then when they said "metroid is THE challenge, nintendo is the power")

Do you plan to Cover Metroid 2 on Gameboy?

Super Metroid was great though.
If they ever bite the bullet and put Zero Mission on NSO, play that instead. There's a reason everybody talks it up over the OG NES version.

I've seen a few Metroid game let's plays/playthroughs but that's the extent of my knowledge.
the original getting over it. fall in a pit, spend 30 minutes in it
Oh heck yeah!! Echoes and echoes 2 in future please pretty please???
This is gonna be great!
Play Metdroid dread.
..... good luck.... i would have started with zero mission
yeah this game definately has shown it's age, not the best metroid game to introduce to the series
you should have done zero mission
He said on stream that he wants to play in release order to see how the series evolves
You HAVE played Metroid before ... during the NES Classics thing. Proof is on this channel.
Liar!
