There are artist squatters in it now. I am told by those in the know that it will come down. The Left (former commies and would-be commies) in Germany oppose reconstructions and want to preserve the DDR past. There are some plans to rebuild the church but not exactly in its original form
I have not long read an article in the Australian Financial Review slamming Germany for rebuilding these buildings as it is claimed Germany is shirking its responsibilities for the past and is attempting to whitewash its history with the re-establishing of these buildings that all played a part in the country’s dark recent history. It also questions the zeal in the rebuilding of Dresden and the ‘pastiche baroque’ that has resulted. This church came under particular scrutiny with the author claiming right wing forces at work with the rebuilding of even the Berliner Schloss, the Frauenkirche and various other reconstructed sites. It seems the author feels Germany has no right to shake its guilt and mask its past especially by rebuilding this most potent symbol of Prussian militarism and prewar extreme right politics in the role that the Garrison Church played between the Chancellor and President in March 1933. This is just one view from outside Germany. I found it harsh personally, but I understand the angle. Interesting and thorny issues that the country needs to navigate in re-establishing it’s cultural identity 80 years on from “Stunde Null” and the bombast of the 1933-1945 government that caused the mess in the first instance…
On the 15th of April 1945 the British just had to destroy yet another German cultural treasure. Yeah, they could have had a very easy peace in July of 1940 but Churchill didn't want peace. WHY bother rebuilding these things?
Actually it was East German Authorities. That decided to demolish and destroy the remains instead of restoring them as the Communist government actively sought to persecute and repress religion in the State-Atheist nation they were building
That building right behind it 🤢👎🏼. Are there plans to demolish it and complete the Church?
There are plans to demolish it, but the left wing groups defending it.

@@ArchitekturTVthe left. Always a scourge on humanity and beauty.
Sieht noch sehr künstlich und steril aus, aber das wird hoffentlich mit der Zeit!
Naja, sieht aus wie frisch renoviert
Aber in zwei drei Jahren ist das nicht mehr so
