    This and Optimus Prime were instrumental in my decision as a kid to be a truck driver as an adult. I loved that Rhino so much. I never had my own Prime because my parents only bought us Gobots but I loved the cartoons and begged in vain for those toys.

    Had a RHINO when I was a kid, and that was definitely one of the greatest M.A.S.K. toys IMO. I have many fond memories of hours and hours of playing with that massive rig; loved that whole line and thought all those little mask sculpts were really cool. Wish I still had those toys. 😕

    I was fan of MASK as a kid but only never got the Rhino back then. I finally got my hands on one of these back around the mid 90s brand new condition in the box for about $50. Still have it in excellent condition at my mom's house in NY. I remember watching the Discovery channel show Monster Garage and thought to myself... "holy moly they are building MASK vehicles"!

    I was totally focused on G.I. Joe by 1985 and never purchased a single M.A.S.K. toy until I was an adult collector many, many years later. It is in my opinion now, one of the absolute best toy lines ever conceived. Would love to see the brand resurrected along with a big screen tie in. Your videos are top notch Michael and have quickly become my number one channel for vintage toy reviews. NERDMASTE!!!

      Same here. Didn't get any M.A.S.K. stuff until a few years ago but I can see how these would have been so much fun for a kid with all the spring-loaded features. Glad you enjoy the videos! Nerdmasté! 🙏

    My brother and i were huge mask fans. We had so many vehicles! I had rhino and i agree the detail was simply amazing. I too was influenced by the trucker era. Convoy, BJ and the bear, movin on, cannonball run, as you mentioned. It was a great time to be a kid. My brother and i sold our mom on getting this for us because it was two vehicles with two figures for one. My brother helped me get this. Then a week later i helped him convince my mom to get him get the 6 wheeled tank he wanted. My second favorite was the 57 chevy that became a tank. We employed the same tactic to get our own transformer devestator. I held on to them for so long. I wish i still had them. They keep re releasing our old toys because we had the best toys. Thanks for the video and trip down memory lane!

      It always bugged me as a kid that Rhino wouldn't fit through the entrance of Boulder Hill. The radar dish would block it off and so you could never re-create the vehicles heading out on a mission properly.

    Thunderhawk is the reason I love M.A.S.K. to this day Rhino was good as a support vehicle, Same for Transformers I've always been a Hot Rod fan and didn't like him that much once he became Rodimus. Hot Rod by the way for the younger viewers is basically Bumblebee but in red and orange and the original Bumblebee was a mini autobot that could only take the body of small cars that's why he was a yellow beetle he could never be a muscle car.

    Love it! The Rhino was one of those toys I absolutely coveted. Huge, full of features, and absolutely badass looking. Alas, the limited bank account of my parents didn’t afford many of the pricier items.
    100% agree- the Rhino looks like it should’ve been the “star” vehicle in the line. I suspect they went with the Thunderhawk in an uncharacteristically kind move as the more affordable alternative to parents. I only ever had the green motorcycle that turned into the gyrocopter, but man- those were cool toys.

    • @MichaelMercy
      @MichaelMercy  6 лет назад +2

      I get the feeling Kenner was a much "kinder" company than the others too. Just from looking at the box and the instructions for some other vehicles, there's really sweet verbiage that you'd never see a big corporation use. It was like a gramma and grandpa were running it. "We really care!" is emblazoned on one of the instruction booklets and they talk about how if there's any issue whatsoever, they want to know about it so they can fix it. Seemed to take real pride in their product, so I can see them wanting kids to be able to afford a cheaper Trakker vehicle. Hasbro on the other hand, made the leader the biggest, most expensive item and said "tough luck!" if you couldn't afford him. :D Rhino's the centrepiece of my MASK collection though, with Matt and Ultra Flash behind the wheel. :D

    • @OldManTheseDays
      @OldManTheseDays 6 лет назад +1

      Michael Mercy you know what- that “we really care” thing was real. I wrote them when I was a kid to ask for a replacement green lightsaber for my Jedi Luke action figure and they sent me a huge bag of Star Wars action figure weapons- pretty much every one for every figure- with a note that more or less said “we appreciate our customers”. I don’t think Hasbro would do that- at least not these days.

    Christmas 1986 was all about the m.a.s.k! Many a m.a.s.k toy was unwrapped that day 34 years ago and Rhino was the Xmas king that year. What a toy (far superior then the Bolderhill play set in my book). My best memory is of waking up at 5 o'clock boxing day morning and being told off by my parents for making too much noise while playing with my m.a.s.k toys. Thanks for bring back those great memories Michael with your fantastic review.

    Hands down, the coolest toyline and cartoon of the 1980's. I only had Condor, Raven, and Piranha. I wanted Rhino, Firecracker, Hurricane, Gator, Thunderhawk, and Boulder Hill. Yeah, I was a dreamer as a boy 😅😅😅. I would have done a full summer's worth of yard work JUST for Rhino. I begged my parents for Rhino once I was at my friend's down the street. It was his sweet four year old friend that brought Rhino to his house. I wanted even more after he was kind enough to let me play with it.

    Rhino was the only MASK figure I didn't have, my best friend did though. So I was happy. Whereas everyone else had a bunch of Transformers, GI Joes, etc, I had MASK. I even watched it on TV every morning before school.
    One of the funny parts of the video was you pulled out the flier that came with it. I paused it as said, "had it, had it, had it, didn't have it, had it, had it." Then I unpaused and heard you say "got it, got it, need it, need it, got it", I couldn't stop laughing! :D

    Interesting mentioning that the eyes are the windows of the soul,because i remember back in the day when the mask show was on how we talked with friends of what kind of power masks used.The show like many other 80s-90s cartoons didn't go to the trouble explaining allot in some points,so we had our own theories for how this worked & that.That was one of the things i liked with the 80s,the mystery involved around a matter in those oldies.So i remember that with a kid talked about how the masks worked and he said to me that it was probably some kind of power from the mind and the eyes of each wearer.I remember an episode on the show that i think sato or gloria was fainted after overusing the power of the mask.Thing that showed that you could not use the power of a mask for more than it should be.

    Unfortunately Rhino didn't get much play time because none of my friends had any Mask toys and I didn't have a bad guy to interact with. Eventually one of my friends got Condor, but we still didn't have a villain and the downsized scale of Mask prevented us from using Star Wars or GI Joe figures with them. Rhino sure looked cool on my bookshelf though. Great review 🙏

    • @MichaelMercy

      Michael Mercy Dino Riders had the exact same scale figures as MASK.... same articulation as well! But they just didn’t interact well together obviously

    Awesome video buddy - I absolutely loved it!! Great effects and humour, not to mention that introduction scene! 😂 I had Rhino as a kid and totally loved it. Gutted I no longer have it, but on the lookout for another one. The chrome on yours is fantastic. Can’t wait to check out your other videos.

    The most underrated toy line in my opinion. Just slightly behind Star Wars, G.I. Joe, transformers and masters of the universe. I would buy any remakes from Hasbro in a New York second.

    I had the MASK Rhino truck in 1989 when I was 6 years old it was and still is one of the best toy big rig trucks ever made. It should of had a trailer to go with it as well. I've got G1 Ultra Magnus and G1 Optimus Prime off eBay I want to get Rhino again what can I say I like 1980s American Big Rig Convoy is one of my favorite films.

      The best big rigs came out in the 80's. Loved Ultra Magnus for being able to haul other cars and combine truck with trailer.

    Got this truck in 1988 from my grandfather to christmas. To this day still my most favorite present.
    Fun Fact: In Germany (where i am from) the nuke was not a nuke, it was a grey satellite. But this did not stop me from pretending it was a rocket and shooting VENOM scum.
