  • A test of the 2018 Yamaha WR450 F from the perspective of an average rider. This bike has a lot to offer the racer but most who buy them won't race them

    Thanks Dave for this excellent review. Earlier this year I purchased a 2017 KTM 350 EXC F. I like it very much, but not so sure that I shouldn’t have waited for this bike. I’m 63 and have been riding for 51+ years. Raced off road most of my riding career, but not anymore. Mostly just a little road riding on a capable street machine and some woods riding on the KTM. Thanks again for all your informative reviews. I really enjoy your adventure series!

      I was having a very strong look at the Kato 350 EXC. But I've decided on a Husky 300 fuel injected that will arrive in Australia in January.

      Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV ....... I am a 2 stroke guy at heart, but now I have to admit I do enjoy the 350’s 4 cycle engine!

    I've been following these videos for a couple months now. I'm looking to add a 450 to the roaster for next year. I like how you have had this bike for awhile before making a full review. I was just about to order mine for after the 1st of the year when you said ride one. Well shit that is the only thing I haven't done. I talked with the dealership and I'll bring home a demo for a week or two before I commit to it.... or three or until they report it stolen haha. Thanks for all the info! @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV  6 лет назад +3

      Yeah, I agree, but this was a heap of single trail, quite tight. I'm sure it would be better on more open forest.

      yeah fare enough Dave ,, fun machine for sure ,sweet engine revs its tits off makes good traction , a kato 500 will do 140-150klm on 8 liters stock tank , ,and you had it on soft map so it makes me wonder ,, i guess it is the yz motor ,so most MX race bikes a thirsty only 90klm range ,, seems the Wr is no different in fuel consumption area ,,your in the fuel range zone of a old 2008 carbi 530exc , just dont seem right to me not for a modern day fuel injected enduro , i though it would be more like 125 -135klm ,,,but in the end i dont care to purchase one , so makes no different to me ,

    Impressive that you can change the mapping to suit your riding purpose, style and competence. You were both ripping it through the single trail.

      Thanks mate. I have always been fast on single trail, it's when I get into the open stuff that I become very average.

    Headlight on/off!! switch, maps x3 options switch on dash odometer, less switches on handlebars to get damaged.

    Suggestion when creating facts or faults about a bike please PLEASE say why you do or don't like certain things. A few times there were cons but no excuse why you thought so. Thanx

    Whilst it might be some time before an Orange bike makes its way into the BBA garage, a Blue one might not be that far away. There’s no doubt a WR450 will be my next dirt bike.

    Would the WR450 make a great supermoto? In the US the only supermoto is the drz which is old tech, plus I'm a Yamaha fan. My WR250R is great off-road (which I'm keeping), but under powered for street use. I'm interested in having a second bike for a supermoto or another dual sport.

      Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV thanks! When will Yamaha make the WR450R and X models for us to just buy from the dealership? Just saying I think they are missing out on customers and we all are missing out because they don't make them from factory. Thanks again and I'll be buying my 450 in couple months!

    Did you ask yamaha if they have a long rang fuel tank as an optional extra. Or do you know of an after market one ?

    Where did you get the license tag holder that's on this bike? I have a wr250f and have been searching for tag frame that attaches with the screws for the tail light. Please advise. Thanks!

    Nice video as always. Hope the leg is ok now.
    Would you take the 450 on a longer trip? Like the ones you have done with the 690? Though after fitting bigger fuel tank, luggage rack and maybe a fairing. Haven't tested one but looks tempting. Low weight , enough power etc

    • @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
      @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV  6 лет назад +1

      Yes I have tested one and the vid is on this channel, it's called Desert Sled. It was excellent for a 3 day trip, but can't take too much weight on the rear seat.

    On average how many hours or km can this engine go before rebuild is due. No body seems to want to answer this. Yz450f most say 50 hours n new piston and timing chain. Is this engine built to handle more hours.

    • @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
      @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV  6 лет назад

      I don't know, but what I would say and suggest with absolutely no knowledge to back me up is that riding it like I do I would expect to double, or possibly triple that time. but I simply don't know, but someone here will.

    I love Yamaha because of the performance, reliability, quality, and design. But I hate WR250F/450F Headlight design. It is too ugly. The worst ever Yamaha headlight design. The previous one like 2008 model headlight was much better than this new one.
