    *Boston did develop earlier. Their earliest robot dog used a diesel engine + hydraulic transmission system, while Unitree used electric drive. Unitree's electric drive mode subverted Boston's hydraulic drive.*
    *Boston's hydraulic drive was slow to respond, heavy, and unable to be precisely controlled. Now Boston has given up the hydraulic route and followed Unitree's lead in switching to the electric drive route.*

      you know the history,, Hydraulic actuators proved to be way more expensive, that's why today nearly all robots have electric actuators

      @@chriswabs does not matter how many they sold. old tech is old tech, and whatever new thing they are working on, it aint out yet and has no announcement yet, so they are not the best as of now. And for most cases, people buy them because they are a US company, as of US get worse and worse reputation by time, that kind of add-on affect will be faded away soon.

      @@jiachen7865 I think they take too long before commercialising a product and end up overspending, but Unitree unveils a new robot today and tomorrow it's ready to be sold,, it's only the Unitree H1 that I haven't seen being ready to be sold but this other ones hit the market as soon as they're unveiled

    the developing time for Boston's has been long and mature. Unitree's on the other hand has just started with tremendous potential. Give it another year or two, it will be miles ahead of the Boston one in my opinion

      those ones are the go series,, particularly Unitree go1 that costs around that price,,then go2 is about 2800usd, then this one in the video is the premium option from unitree, it's Called b2W, it costs 100000usd, you can check on their website if you are doubting,,then BD sells their spot premium ones at 74500usd

    many unitree models are production ready or in production, on the other hand, BD robots are more of a wow demo than real product.

      @@glowingnut Unitree is very good when it comes to commercialisation of robots, but in this case when it comes to Robot dogs BD has sold far more units than any other company as of 2024 but with this new entry of B2W am sure by mid next yr Unitree will have overtaken BD in total number of units sold

    I would want the Unitree. I would use it to go on long hikes where I could let it carry all my gear and a big solar panel that I could use to recharge it when I need to. With this robot I think one could hike for a week in very rough turain for about a week without needing to restock food or water due to its ability to carry so much weight.

    Unitree obviously have a better product but it needs to open up the interface like Spot. It is not a toy but a mobile robotic platform that can be smaller or bigger or stronger or faster or operate longer. Bolt-on functions limits its usability.
    Unitree need to market its product and develop models for all potential application. Not just follow Boston Dynamics unimaginative strategy.

    BD develops only with future military utilization in mind. Unitree also develops for disabled and elderly mobility, as well as possible military use. Unitree gets my vote

    Unitree is one owner whereas Boston Dynamics has been changing hands for so many times as no one wants to hold onto it. That ought to tell you something. In the lab, BD robots look good, but on the battlefields, people snatch up DJIs and Unitrees, nobody wants to risk it with American made craps

    $100000? No, the civilian version of the Unitree robotic dog is only sold for 10000 RMB=1350 USD. I have seen the most expensive Unitree robot dog for civilian use, priced at 90000 RMB=12500 USD, a high load off-road model. I don't know where this $100000 number came from. After all, military and civilian appearances are the same, which may be just the difference between internal chips and materials.

    Spot is a real smart autonomous robot. It can do different task unlike the unitree robot which is only a camera robot on wheels. Spot can grab things or open doors. The b2 cant do that.

      that's true,,it can handle way more,,but it's behind in agility,,as of now we don't know what B2W can do because in the video we only saw it moving around and carrying a person,,but Maybe if fitted with an arm too it could open doors

    Boston Dynamics only this year removed the annual licence that had to be paid for Spot.
    $4000 annual cost. for spot. even if you owned the robot.

      how does that make my comparison wrong? in my comparison I pointed out that Unitree B2W is far more advanced than BD Spot when it comes to Industrial robot dogs. Unitree has other models like go series which are about 1500usd but those ones are not for industrial applications

    The robot dogs are used as a platform for various equipment. So when comparing its applications, they can be relied on some 3rd party companies. The GenAI will largely enhance such applications. Give the shorter history of Unitree, it has huge potential due to its powerful platform. BD definitely shines on some very special applications for sure. I like to see more competitions in this field. There will be more advanced and possibly cheaper dogs in near future.

      芯片美国生产的?好像连美国公司生产的都不是吧,更别提是在美国本土生产的了。只是几乎所有高端芯片的生产都会用到美国公司拥有的技术,所以美国政府才以此为理由要求别人不许卖有美国技术产于生产出来的高端芯片给中国。芯片产业是一个高度全球化的产业,到目前为止,没有任何一个国家拥有完全的知识和技术能独立生产出高端芯片,从技术角度出发,很多国家都能发出类似美国政府的制裁令,如果德国说禁止使用了德国技术的芯片卖给美国,那美国也就买不到任何高端芯片,自己也生产不出高端芯片,处境其实是一样的,只是目前只有美国比较霸道,会使用这样的限制令来号令全球企业而已。
